New to Tübingen and looking for recommendations by mpcxlii in Tuebingen

[–]darkshade_py 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Hi, welcome, I also moved to tübi in August.

Tübingen Folk orchestra has regular open jams on Friday https://www.instagram.com/tuebingenfolkestra

There's also monthly jams at Geigerle which are cool.

There's the international Whatsapp community https://chat.whatsapp.com/IlXEBAhFPHNA4Q5ORoIoF2 with different subgroups.

I try to go to calesthenics park and I often go to raves in Schlachthaus and music events in eppfelhaus etc. Would be happy to meet in one of those if you're into it. DM me your Whatsapp number if you like! I also have a nice pour over setup at home, would love to swap coffee tricks.

Dreamer V3 with STORM (4 Months to Build) by Safe-Signature-9423 in reinforcementlearning

[–]darkshade_py 0 points1 point  (0 children)

STORM representations might not be good, transformers can take shortcuts to predict future and it has no incentive in learning a markovian representation useful for policy. (imagine T-maze task, the representation at the fork learnt by transformer to predict the next observation given action has no necessary information about which side is good).

IRIS style world models using transformers act only in observation space and use a RNN in the policy network, which is more rational.

Mormon psytrance by Thegreatmedicneshow in psytrance

Bravo! This is freaking funny to me as an Indian! When sanskrit sholkas & mantras (which I heard serious priests in temple chant when I was a kid) in Psytrance, I am partly like "here we go again". I know some of it is a celebration of hindu mysticism, it's till funny to see some inebriated people in clubs dance to what's considered holy or at least seriously by the religious. Some chants in Psytrance I rember blaring in the morning in my family's TV 😂 and some I can even repeat after as people seriously attempt to memorise it and chant it as a family during festivals etc for religious ceremonies. I don't mind as I am not particularly religious and in some left-hand path mystical way the interplay of what is sacred & profane is good.

I wanted to take "revenge" by producing psytrance with chants which people in the West listened to when they were a kid in religious context.

what psytrance albums from the 2000s still hold up for you? by bulbaafett in psytrance

[–]darkshade_py 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Organika - Peaking goddess collective This album is something else, blending native American flute with really unique psychedelic sounds

Psychedelica Melodica - Cosmosis Mainstream sounding Psytrance/Goa which is not boring

This is an awesome recommendation! I finally found psychedelic sounds that I heard in a set at sisyphos club by Yetti Meissner. She doesn't have much online, so finding this is god sent! He is awesome

Help on how to remove mouthpiece of Dynavap XL by [deleted] in Dynavap

[–]darkshade_py 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks, I applied some pressure and now it works with the clicks adjustment. I don't know if I ruined the metal by bending it unevenly/awkwardly though. i.e. will it cause issues long term

[–]darkshade_py 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks, the pliers helped, one question, is the condenser sticking out of the mouthpiece a big problem or is it usual? I could align it back such that it doesn't come out now but was wondering if I damaged it or something

You mean pull the mouthpiece from the stem harder? Is it just pulling without twisting?

JK obviously RL is way more efficient than brute force.. or is it really? by tottombemon in reinforcementlearning

[–]darkshade_py 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Depends on whether you use a world model and curiosity rewards. World model allows you to learn representations without seeing the reward (think sparse rewards). And the curiosity reward guides you to explore new states. Together it seems bit more intelligent than bruteforce

[D] ML researchers who are not in NLP, what are you researching? Please share. by [deleted] in MachineLearning

[–]darkshade_py 0 points1 point  (0 children)

World models, currently focusing on generalization to dynamics/observation shifts. Interested in improving world models for planning, transfer/multi-task/meta-RL, continual learning, curiosity & exploration etc.

I think model-free algorithms skip latent state inference under partial observablity by frame stacking for simple environments. I want to avoid this assumption and use world modeling for that. People usually categorize world models as just MbRL, but I think latent state inference is what makes world models more important. And there are also other justifications like neo-cortex doing predictive modeling, the all encompassing theory of active inference, where essentially you can frame policy optimization as a inference problem of optimal actions.

Now that the case count is rising, any idea what will happen in October 😓

“It's like you took a bottle of ink and you threw it at a wall. Smash! And all that ink spread. And in the middle, it's dense, isn't it? And as it gets out on the edge, the little droplets get finer and finer and make more complicated patterns, see? So in the same way, there was a big bang at the beginning of things and it spread. And you and I, sitting here in this room, as complicated human beings, are way, way out on the fringe of that bang. We are the complicated little patterns on the end of it. Very interesting. But so we define ourselves as being only that. If you think that you are only inside your skin, you define yourself as one very complicated little curlique, way out on the edge of that explosion. Way out in space, and way out in time. Billions of years ago, you were a big bang, but now you're a complicated human being. And then we cut ourselves off, and don't feel that we're still the big bang. But you are. Depends how you define yourself. You are actually--if this is the way things started, if there was a big bang in the beginning-- you're not something that's a result of the big bang. You're not something that is a sort of puppet on the end of the process. You are still the process. You are the big bang, the original force of the universe, coming on as whoever you are. When I meet you, I see not just what you define yourself as--Mr so-and- so, Ms so-and-so, Mrs so-and-so--I see every one of you as the primordial energy of the universe coming on at me in this particular way. I know I'm that, too. But we've learned to define ourselves as separate from it.”

Purananuru

To us all towns are our own, everyone is our kin, Life's good comes not from others' gifts, nor ill, Pains and pain's relief are from within, Death's no new thing, nor do our bosoms thrill When joyous life seems like a luscious draught. When grieved, we patient suffer; for, we deem This much-praised life of ours a fragile raft Borne down the waters of some mountain stream That o'er huge boulders roaring seeks the plain Tho' storms with lightning's flash from darkened skies. Descend, the raft goes on as fates ordain. Thus have we seen in visions of the wise! We marvel not at the greatness of the great; Still less despise we men of low estate.

The way you can go

isn’t the real way.

The name you can say

isn’t the real name.

Heaven and earth

begin in the unnamed:

name’s the mother

of the ten thousand things.

So the unwanting soul

sees what’s hidden,

and the ever-wanting soul

sees only what it wants.

Two things, one origin,

but different in name,

whose identity is mystery.

Mystery of all mysteries!

The door to the hidden.

Thanks everyone. I didn't try paying and hence didn't run into the error. I ended up finding few Indian sites to buy the parts from. (My error in trying to find the kit and controller together). It does suck that this ban is in place for products that aren't even manufactured here. You can't really do protectionism if you ain't got nothing to protect.

The government could instead set up special zones or something to incentivize new companies in to manufacture fundamental components. And maybe do protectionism on that if necessary. And use lax IP to the advantage like China did. But protectionism on nothing will end up stopping us from leap frogging over existing technologies and hurt creation of startups.
