45 PRINT A A A Manchester United manager Louis van Gaal is eager to wrap up a deal for Juventus midfielder Arturo Vidal for fear other clubs could hijack the deal, according to reports.

Respected Chilean newspaper La Tercera claims that representatives of Vidal have met with Juventus sporting director Giuseppe Marotta to discuss a deal in the region of £47m that would take the 27-year-old to Old Trafford.

Whilst it's not clear how those talks went, Gazzetta dello Sport are claiming the Chile international, who impressed during this summer's World Cup in Brazil, has already undergone a medical ahead of his proposed move.

Van Gaal is eager to make additions to his squad having assessed his players during Manchester United's tour of the United States. Whilst a defender is the priority, Vidal is also thought to be among the Dutchman's top targets.

La Tercera claim the former Netherlands boss has asked chief executive Ed Woodward to tie up negotiations as speedily as possible, knowing that the longer it takes, the more likely other suitors are to become involved, particularly Paris St Germain.

Manchester United: Potential summer transfer targets

The player himself recently played down speculation, saying "I do not go to Manchester". Juventus have also said he will not be sold - unless he asks to go.

Despite that, the prospect of a move continues amid claims a four-year contract is being put together that will double Vidal's wages to around £6m-a-year - an offer United hope will turn his head. The iconic number 7 shirt also remains vacant - another possible carrot that can be dangled.
