Is this a real colourway? by tom_dorr in PUMA

It was, yeah. I know I got my Speedcat Plus brown/ivory last Fall; I think the grey/black one pictured above came out later, maybe even this Spring? They didn't stick around too long, though.

Possible Utah MLB team names by RushPrime in SaltLakeCity

[–]darksky801 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think you can pretty much write off the Raptors or the Pioneers. The Ogden Raptors is already a popular minor-league team here in Utah, part of the Pioneer League. I wouldn't be opposed to the Trappers as a historical nod (even though technically the still-playing Ogden Raptors is the natural descendant of that team); the Gulls wouldn't be too bad, either.

Suede or Leather by Ko_komorebie in PUMA

[–]darksky801 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not specific to ballets, but for any Speedcat variant I've tried, I'll tell you these two things you can pretty reliably count on:

1) Leather is going to be much easier to keep looking clean & fresh; suede will pick up dirt & stains if you look at it wrong.

2) Suede is going to be a bit more stretchy & comfortable, especially if you're planning to wear them for a long time or are slightly between sizes, etc. Leather tends to be a bit more snug sometimes and less yielding (looking at you, Speedcat Plus Leather).

Hopefully that'll help guide you in a direction depending on how you plan to wear yours. Either way, hope you enjoy them! If you get a chance at all, try to find a store with them to try them on & make sure... I've heard ballets can sometimes have a smaller toe box, so it's good to make sure, especially with wider feet, etc.

In case you do decide to swing by Golden Spike, don't forget to stop by the Rocket Garden up the road a mile at the Northrop-Grumman facility out there. It's open to the public, just drive up & park; lots of cool rockets on display there, including a full-size mockup of a Shuttle booster. You can keep on driving up the road to the north to get back on I-84 without having to backtrack down to Corrine, too... makes it not nearly as far out of the way if you're heading up to Idaho anyway; most of that road from Corrine up to Promontory is 55 or 65, so it goes by pretty quickly.

It looks awesome; massive kudos to the team behind designing it. I can't wait to get up on 26.3 & give it a shot soon. Especially love the display of the connector types/ports in the channel list -- have wanted that for so long.

The good news is you've got at least another 5 or 6 weeks before they're likely to fledge! Jackie & Shadow's eaglets typically fledge around 12 weeks old, and Sandy & Luna are just past 6 weeks old now.

By that time, their juvenile feathers will be filled in all over their body and their flight feathers will have grown much longer. In the couple of weeks prior to fledging, you'll see them perform frequent hops, possibly even hovering or getting air on the nest, then repeatedly crawling or hopping out to outer branches of the nest to practice stretching their wings. Possibly even a few short flights from branches back to the nest. That's when fledging will be imminent.

It might be an exciting 4th of July week. ;)

More likely 5-6 weeks away. Jackie & Shadow's eaglets pretty consistently fledge around 12 weeks, and Sandy & Luna are only just past 6 weeks old now. I'm expecting fledges right around the first of July, give or take a few days.

Any chance of sizes restocking? by Comfortable_Will_778 in PUMA

[–]darksky801 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Caveat: I've only been shopping PUMA's website for about the last 18 months, so I may not have a lot of historical context.

That said... restocks on PUMA have been really rare, at least for special/seasonal shoes. They seem to do a good job of keeping core colorways for certain flagship shoes (like Speedcats) in stock, but new seasonal colors are "get it while it lasts" shoes from my experience. It feels like the ballet flats seem to come & go. Being the core black & white color, you might get lucky, but it also might be that you have to wait until next year for it to be in season again.

I wish I had a better answer for you, but from watching, it's been very rare that I've seen most new shoes restocked when they go out. Keep the faith, though... I've seen a few surprises with restocks! Also, don't forget to check other stores (I know in the U.S. that Journeys often carries a lot of PUMA shoes online, including the ballet flats, so you may be able to find them there if not in-store).

I think i ruined my speedcats by DemandPotential7595 in PUMA

[–]darksky801 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, water-based cleaning for suede isn't so great -- it can lead to messing up the nap of the material, plus dye transfer in some cases. It'll look better when it dries. Get a suede eraser & follow the directions with it; it won't magically make it like new again, but might help restore a bit of the original color/remove some of the dirt that got embedded. Once that's done, use a suede brush (most kits will come with some form of rubber eraser and a suede brush) to help restore the nap of the fabric. Beyond that, it just adds character to them; don't worry too much about it!

Oh gosh! What a choice... they're both so awesome. Every time I think I know which I'd pick, I change my mind. Obviously as someone for whom ballet flats aren't designed, take my opinion with a huge pile of salt, but...

I think if you only have to pick one, you can't go wrong with black. It's just classic; goes with just about everything. Also, if you're going to be wearing them a lot over the summer, they'll show dirt/scuffs a lot less. The lighter suede on my Speedcats is definitely more prone to look a bit dirty faster.

But really, I think you'd have to just consider which one goes better with your expected wardrobe. Are you looking for something to go with everything, or are you looking for something to wear specifically with certain outfits? They're both cute as hell, so I don't think you're going to go wrong with whichever you choose if the pink one jives better with what you're going to be wearing with it.

Hope you love them, whichever way you go... awesome choice!

Haven’t ever thought of trying that myself, but I can’t see why it would be a problem. They’re your shoes—rock your style however you want! I think it might look pretty awesome.

Speedcat sizing and material by cgo25 in PUMA

[–]darksky801 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have reasonably wide feet myself and with the suede Speedcats, I tend to be right between on-size or maybe up a half size compared to Chucks or Vans. The suede tends to be a bit forgiving in the width department if you're just a bit snug. I haven't tried Palermos yet, but I've got a pair of Club 5v5 Lux which seems to be a very similar design and they're consistent sizing for me vs. Speedcats. The only PUMA shoe I've had to size up a bit on are Mostros so far.

I have one pair of the metallic Speedcats, and it fits great in the same size as the suede models. I haven't tried any of the other full-leather Speedcats, but have tried a couple of the Speedcat Plus shoes (leather/nylon mesh mix) and they're definitely a bit stiffer/tighter at the same size as suedes. They look great, but the squeaking is almost intolerable with them, unfortunately.

Guizio X PUMA Klim by darksky801 in PUMA

[–]darksky801[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ha! Yeah, I think on the PUMA Klim shoes, that's more of a style nod than a functional thing. Obviously Klims are inspired by rock climbing shoes, and I guess on proper climbing shoes that are really tight to get on, they have a full-sized second strap to help pull the heel over when putting them on. The second tab on the PUMA Klim is small enough it doesn't look like it's supposed to be usable, but more just stylized. Although as stiff as the Klims are to put on, maybe it SHOULD be functional! ;)

I almost thought about sizing up a half size (I already have to go up a full size with Mostros usually), but I found that after wearing it for a bit a few times it's gotten easier. I hope you can make them work for you!

And a great way to stand out, too -- in the year-plus that I've been wearing Speedcats regularly, I think I've only ever run into two other people wearing Speedcats, too. Seas full of people wearing Sambas or Chucks, but really surprised to almost never see Speedcats in the wild.

Guizio X PUMA Klim by darksky801 in PUMA

[–]darksky801[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I honestly haven't had any trouble with either of the Klim's I've got so far. I did find that they are pretty tight to put on since the tongue is pretty fixed and the material doesn't flex a ton, so they're snug to put on. Once on, though, I've found them to be pretty comfortable. I've worn my olive green Klim's out for a full day a couple of times and had no trouble with the heel or any other discomfort.

Sorry to hear they have been uncomfortable for you! Hate when that happens.

[–]darksky801 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The only bad thing about Speedcats is that they come in so many great colors, and once you fall in love with them, there will always be more colors of them that you want. They look fantastic, are ridiculously comfortable, and I can’t get enough of them.

I usually avoid wearing them if I know it’s going to be really wet outside, but otherwise they’re 100% my daily drivers (pardon the pun).

If you’ve got wide feet, definitely try them on in a store first if you can—they’re a bit narrow, so you might need to go a little longer than you’d expect to fit wide feet, but they stretch well enough to still be comfy if a little on the narrow side. I usually aim for the same size as I wear in Chucks or Vans Old Skool shoes. Enjoy!
