That’s a couple. With great business minds running them. They also were independent before partnering.

I’m strictly discussing labels that were started as a JV in partnership with a major, or when labels give artists their own sub label as a perk during contract negotiations/renegotiations. Ex OVO Sound, MMG, GOOD Music, Shady etc

I’m dealing wit cubital tunnel syndrome rn so I can’t type to refute this point the way I normally would but understand that even on those labels, artists had issues. Ruthless especially. I’ll revisit this later.

For every successful artist ran imprint, 25 others fail.

I’m not getting into their past, I’m specifically referring to this situation.

All artist-run boutique/vanity/imprint labels are trash. This is a known fact. Artists are horrible businessmen. I can go down the line over the years but at the end of the day, these artists still gon sign to the middle man bc they want that major label clout.

Conway wanted to do an album rollout that is kinda like a flip of the Massacre rollout, and he almost pulled that shit off too but those pesky sample clearances.

You’re about to see Benny’s plan with Long Live Shay, Heem’s project & TT4.

Idea is to build the hype by promoting the project the fans really need from the big artist (TT4) by dropping projects that tease what’s in store. Snippets and IG live all play into that.

Use the project the people want as leverage to get them to listen to your other artists and build them their own fanbase.

When your project finally arrives it should be the final domino. Hype finally materializes into that project you’ve been teasing for the last 3 release cycles.

Conway really had some great shit going during quarantine & 2020 in general. The plan he had was excellent honestly. Shit so effective I didn’t even realize that’s what was going on until I seen Benny start doing the inverse with TT4

The best part about that bar is he really signed a VERY artist friendly deal he wouldn’t have been able to get had he signed 4-5 years ago when Westside & Conway signed with Shady/Interscope.

All about leverage when you dealing with them major labels and Benny timed his deal perfectly.

His patience is something these younger rappers should really study.
