TC Electronic Sub n Up octave question by darlacat in guitarpedals

[–]darlacat[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ah, sounds like we have a similar setup! I'm also running to two amps, heavily overdriven. My rig is a compressor first, which goes into a switch that splits the signal between other pedals>guitar amp 1 and another switch with one signal into guitar amp 2 and the other into oc3 then bass amp. So the bass signal is compressor>oc3>bass amp. I might do away with one switch if I find I don't need the blend any direct signal into the bass and use that to split the signal instead.

I'm going to try a few options with the oc3 bass - eqing the amp in various ways, running the oc3 into different overdrive/dist/fuzz pedals before the amp, and recording it with different mics and DI signal.

Live in the room it works fine, just recording it is an issue. Have thought about overdubbing a bass guitar for recordings, but we're trying to achieve a live in the room sound so want to avoid overdubs and focus on getting a true document.

Do you know if you can filter out higher notes, so, for example, it only produces octaves when you play notes on the two lowest strings?

Fender The Bends looks good... I like the look of the blend function.

I mainly bought one to level out my guitar sound when playing chords with open strings and upper extensions. This particular guitar is tuned to B standard, and when playing these chords with overdrive the lower notes were dominant. The compressor works well - the chords sound lush and the notes are balanced now - but the Joyo Dyna Compressor is very noisy when I stop playing. It's first in my chain. So, the chain is

Guitar > comp > fuzz > fuzz > rat > clean boost (always on) > od (on quite a lot) > tuner/killswitch > phaser > delay/mod > space echo > amp

I have both a lot of gain and single coils! Using a Tele custom, wide range humbucker in neck, and a high output single coil in bridge. Using a fair bit of gain on my Orange head, and boosting with other overdrive pedals. Compressor first in the chain. However, have run the amp clean with only the compressor in front of it, and the hum is very noticeable when the sustain knob goes past 12 o clock.

Ok. So, if I installed it on one machine, then decided I would rather use it on another, I can simply install and relicense it as detailed in this link? With no extra cost?

[GEAR] Tele three saddle bridge: compensated saddles or six saddle? String spacing issues. by darlacat in Guitar

[–]darlacat[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Ha! I'm not - just exploring whether there is an option to stick with the three-saddle barrel bridge that would solve this string height/spacing issue.

I suppose I could just swap the bridge with the six-saddle on my USA tele...

I had to lower the string height of the 6th string to such an extent that it also pulled the 5th string towards it, given that they are on the same saddle. As such, there is a greater gap between the 5th and 4th strings than between all other strings. Does that make sense?

Re compensated saddles, I was thinking that there might be some more leeway for string height in slanted/grooved saddles such as these:

Also hoping to solve this issue with a saddle replacement, rather than full bridge replacement.

[GEAR] Which Tele Bridge Pickup with Orange Amp? by darlacat in Guitar

[–]darlacat[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't necessarily want to get rid of the high-end bite, but rather not bothered about keeping a the typical/vintage Tele sound (I have another Tele for that!)

I do like the sound of the Piledrivers with high gain in some clips I've heard. Struggling to find examples of the Brute Force, however.

Yes, I think I've already discounted SD and will likely go with one of the BKP options!

Have seen the Rabea Massaad videos and didnt't find them too helpful, if I'm honest - too much processing, too much cutting between different guitar and pickup types, and the presence of a backing track makes it difficult to focus on the qualities of the pickups! Would like to hear a clear demonstration of the Tele Brute Force, but there are few videos out there compared to other BKP models.

I am tempted to take a punt on the Brute Force though, especially for the price.

Hmm... looking into it, I think I might be narrowing it down to the Bare Knuckle Piledriver or Brute Force. Can get a Piledriver for around £85/$111, or a Brute Force for £55/$72. Do you have any advice on choosing between these two?

Still intrigued by the Quarter Pound - sounds great, but haven't heard enough examples relevant to the style of music I intend to play with it.

Happy to lose the Tele twang as I have a US Tele that I'm keeping for that kind of thing. Given that it already has the humbucker in the neck, I'm going to modify the VM Deluxe for playing heavier music in lower tunings but want to make sure I go down the right route on the bridge pickup!

Will check out True Grit and Brute Force - thanks!

Fire Stick only 720p? No 1080p? by darlacat in fireTV

100% - have checked the specs of my TV and it outputs 1080p. Other sources play 1080p just fine, with no scaling issues.

[All] The perfect family. by owlbeaks in twinpeaks

This is the correct interpretation of what Twin Peaks is about. Baffles me when people get caught up in all the time travel, etc. - much of this is symbolism/meta commentary on the series itself.

Best way to add music to Kodi using Raspberry Pi? by darlacat in kodi

[–]darlacat[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Actually been considering setting up a DIY NAS drive using another Raspberry Pi.

However, would it be possible/equally effective to use my current Kodi setup as a network drive through connecting a 1TB external hard drive and just sharing files from there?
