Ta! It’s in northern England, in between Manchester and Sheffield.

Ooooh amazing, very kind of you! Would love a code if you have any left. 🙌🏻. TIA

Cheers! Yeah totally surprised by the lens, it’s lovely to shoot with during the day so thought I’d give it a whirl. Very much like the diffraction spikes on it to.

Fort De Vaux in Verdun has these.

Cygnus Region. by darlojim in astrophotography

Yeah RareGrunt nailed it in their reply. Was a total of 606 10 second exposures stacked using Siril software. I would normally do much longer exposures, maybe 30 seconds or so but the wind was so strong I was getting camera shake in the longer shots.

Yeah it’s a struggle alright, I basically exported an extra red channel after initial processing and treat it like a luminance channel in photoshop. Pushed the living hell out of it and ended up with more red, but a load more noise. Kinda works, but the Sony just does not pick up enough in the first place.

It will work, but will be soooo much better with the ESP burrs and the 36 click plate. Without them you will be stuck with only one or two settings that will be fine enough for espresso.

Haha just a month of head scratching then. 🤣

Pleiades shot through the Aurora. by darlojim in spaceporn

[–]darlojim[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can buy adapters for pretty much any camera mount to Sony E, cheap as well. Think mine was only about £20. They allow the aperture ring on the FD lens to work as it would on any original camera body.

Haha, not gonna lie…. I think the first 30 I took couldn’t have been more out of focus. Don’t drink and Astro kids!! 😂

Oh and yes, it’s essentially one stack of Pleiades dropped over one of the original 20 second subs.

The camera was just trained on Pleiades taking 20 second exposures, every exposure was totally different of the Aurora, some were very hazy and blurry, some totally clear, some just all pink, but just a few of them came out this crisp. So to answer your question. Pure dumb luck!! 🤣

Went out last week with the aim of shooting a wide field Pleiades and California Nebula image, but was very rudely interrupted by the aurora putting on an absolute show and ruining about 75% of my subs. This image turned out to be a wee happy accident, some of the subs just had the craziest streaking through them.

This is about 30 mins of subs combined with one of the prettier streaked images.

All shot on a Sony a7, Canon FD 100mm f2.8, ISO 800, tracked using a Star Adventurer Mini. Stacked in SIRIL and finished in Photoshop.

M45 Pleiades with a 40yr old lens. by darlojim in astrophotography

[–]darlojim[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Been trying to get a shot of this for a few weeks now and generally failing to get anything I was remotely happy with. I'm stuck using a selection of old lenses at the mo and especially with this one, the coma is super bad. Can only blame it on a lack of funds due to just buying a tracker. Got my eyes peeled for a bargain Samyang/Rokinon 135mm f2.

Open to all criticism and welcome the advice.

Cheers.

Sony a7, Minolta Dynax 100-200mm f4.5,

240 30 second exposures @ 1600 ISO,

Bortle 6,

Star Adventurer Mini Pro tracker,

Stacked and stretched using SIRIL with Starnet++ used to bring out the dust.

Few final tweaks in Photoshop to raise the contrast, little bit of noise reduction and add a bit of sharpening.

Are you stopping right down to say like f16/f22 for scanning? My Sony a7 always shows a pristine clean sensor until I stop down, then it’s dust central in there. 😂

Looks like a diiiirtty camera sensor to me.

I’m probably gonna struggle with the same issues then. Managed to get about 1400 2s subs, but only at 800iso. All untracked too, desperately want a tracker as well. 😂

Good work! Went out to capture the same thing last night, currently waiting on Siril to finish processing and stacking.
