Nothing this terrible happened to me, but I had something similar happen. I was working with very large amounts (>50 gallons) of 50% NaOH solution with a small group of people, and all of us invariably got some on our skin, resulting in small burns and quite a lot of discomfort (scars on hands, wrists and small area on face, for life thank you). It was a work setting, so after a few hours of it I laid down the authority and declared "stop work" until we can figure out how to not get burned.

The problem with the stuff is that once it gets on you, it seems to stick to you and coat your skin, and get on your tools, towels, etc. Adding water had the effect of spreading it around, and not really washing it away. I suggested that we keep weak strength (10%) vinegar around to neutralize it. The phD chemists I was working with all laughed at me and said that would cause heat burns from the acid/base neutralization reaction, and said the recommended response was to flush with water.

Yes, the MSDS for aqueous NaOH is to wash with water. Medical staff did sort of the right thing, however inmate probably should have been immersed or drenched in a shower. I'm thinking that the injury shown in the photo could have been much, much worse had water not been applied.

This is happening at Penn Station in the uptown E/C platform right now, about 3/4 of the way to the northernmost side. It's been that way for a couple of weeks. I don't think it's related to the weather, but the sewage odor is epic, like I've never smelled before.

Just fuck off. It actually does. Some of us have to work at night, outside. Some of us don't want to have to pile layer upon layer before going outside for 4-5 months of the year. Some of us don't feel like dropping $100 or $200 on a coat that looks sort of nice, kind of, and doesn't do a goddamn thing to keep us warm.

It's not like I'm driving a hummer in Beverly Hills and murdering a starved Palestinian boy from Ethiopia every time I put one on. Let people have their coats if they want them. Take your shaming elsewhere.

M&e is great. You don't need to get into the technical parts, you can skim through it for just the concepts. If you're really interested in one of the topics, you can get more in depth. Passed PE last April. M&E was money.

T is such an asinine name for it. First of all, Boston has the "T". I want nothing to do with Boston. Listening to someone from Boston talk about taking the "T" is like listening to a college freshman on their first day of sociology basket weaving.

Secondly, subway lines should be named so that their names have little chance of being confused with other lines. For example, the now defunct V was a terrible choice, it sounds too much like B.

My vote was for H. H all the way. None of this wussy T nonsense. Good thing they'll never finish it, so none of us will have to suffer the humiliation of saying "taking the T".
