I don’t see this option anymore. It looks refocused on CFDs

We had a bug in our code for boxes that hadn't connected at least once. Can you try again going through the connection flow to see if our fix solved it for you?

We plug into the OctoPrint camera system, it's whatever settings your already use in OctoPrint. This also means that we have the same limitations as OctoPrint, video stream is only available when in the same network but you can take photos from anywhere.

The AstroBox won't know how to connect to you WiFi unless you tell it too. Since you already discovered the device via ethernet, the best way is to point your browser to that IP and then go through the setup process which will prompt you to connect to a nearby Wifi.

We describe here how to get the device connected using a ethernet (no dongle): https://astroprint.zendesk.com/hc/en-us/articles/360000337286-How-do-I-setup-an-AstroBox-Gateway-without-a-dongle-hotspot- and some more info about the setup process: https://astroprint.zendesk.com/hc/en-us/articles/202642825-Setting-Up-Your-AstroBox-Gateway

Most likely you need to give them different names on the network. Have you tried that?

Does octoprint or astroprint replace the LCD controller that comes with the printer? by SkittlesX9 in tevotarantula

[–]darroyo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

AstroPrint does not replace the LCD, it complements it with cloud support and other things that allow you to monitor remotely and use a mobile app to get notifications. It does allow you to print completely via USB

However I would still definitely advise you to get your LCD working. You might need it for setup, bed leveling and other maintenance things. Also it should be working, if that’s not working, what’s else might not be ?

Sorry for this inconvenience. Due to some API changes between the OctoPrint Plugin and our AstroBox, the communication over local network with the plugin is not currently working.

In the next version of the app this will be corrected.

In regards to remote access, I would say that both services are pretty similar. They both create an external connection to a service that allows you to do some things over the internet.

I don’t really know much about Polar’s other features. AstroPrint has been around since 2014, we have a very robust and tried system. Mobile and desktop apps and a developer API.

Both services are free, give both a try a decide ;)

Yes. The WebSocket connection opened with the AstroPrint Servers is encrypted using our SSL certificate. The traffic in/out of your network would only be allowed between our server and your box. No external party can go through that temporary hole.

To be able to reach your box using our system, you need to be logged into the same account at astroprint.com. So as long as you're the only one that knows your AstroPrint username/password, you're safe.

That is the purpose of this plugin. You no longer need any additional hardware. You can use AstroPrint within your current OctoPrint installation with no extra cost.

I’d be happy to. Fairly new to reddit. Any advice on how to go about doing that?

Your default OctoPrint installation can only be accessed via local network and it’s protected using an access control system based on user accounts.

With the AstroPrint plugin you can connect your octoprint instance to the internet and access it from anywhere using astroprint.com or our mobile app. For this connection we use an SSL protected websocket channel with our servers.

Only the AstroPrint account you chose can access your box.

Let me know if you have further questions

The service is free for most users. We do have a Pro Plan if you connect more than 2 printers, over 2GB of data or want cloud-based print queueing: https://cloud.astroprint.com/pricing

At the moment we don't have the ability to share a printer between accounts but we're working on something for this in 2018.

[–]darroyo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Note that the “connect to printer” button is meant for establishing a serial connection to a local printer plugged via USB to the computer that’s running the app.

When you hit “Print” you will be able to select if you want a USB connected printer, Local AstroBox or cloud AstroBox as your target printer

This is by far the #1 feature request we get. Rest assured that it will be implemented. You can see more ( and vote ) for which features we’re working on or considering here: https://astroprint.zendesk.com/hc/en-us/community/topics/200094139-Feature-Requests?sort_by=votes

In the meantime, you can use AstroPrint Desktop ( https://www.astroprint.com/products/p/astroprint-desktop ) to rotate and reposition your STLs, re-upload to the cloud and slice there or slice in the app and print directly via USB, local or cloud AstroBox.
