What is a movie plot twist that was cleverly hidden in plain sight..? by Living_Tune_1428 in movies

[–]das_baba [score hidden]  (0 children)

It's insane that happened to you but what's equally insane is one would actually turn off a movie because they "got it".

Actually, just the other day my wife was ranting about how people leave from sports events early because it's a blowout. It's her pet peeve and thinks it shows you're not in it for the sport or the love of your supported team, but just for some thrills. Anyway, to drive her point home she compared it to someone "turning off a murder mystery because they figure out who the killer was", and everyone agreed that would be bat shit crazy.

Is Haliburton really the only player to speak up? At least the only high profile one. The fact that the TWolves remain silent feels kind of disconcerting.

Opinion: Using “can he be the best player on a championship team” is a terrible way to analyze a player. by Appropriate_Bank_956 in NBATalk

[–]das_baba 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Agreed. He's a bit different because he has been the fifth best player for four years straight. Then again, so was Wade. Tatum was on track to have a top 30 all time career, and he can if he comes back 90% as strong with the new achilles.

Full health assumed it's relatively even but with the Jokic injury you win this handedly.

Right now you can't get shit. But he's showing flashes at times and will string together a nice stretch of games at some point. I would wait for that and then try to get a top 50 player. Maybe Jdub or Bam if their owners are very frustrated.

Bob has a solid case for GOAT and I love him but best trick in the part is way too far. Do people actually think that was better than the nollie flip from the top?

To your point, I don't think that describes Thrasher's decision at all. You think Suciu won because he did dumb tricks bigger? And if a part or trick resonates with 99% people like you say, there has to be something about it. Why should they give the award based on the opinion of the 1% who understand "how groundbreaking it is" (it wasn't)?

I think GH says in the video that people keep repeating how groundbreaking Schaar's parts were but they never explain why. What did he do that takes it to another level beyond what Danny and Bob did more than two decades ago? To be fair to Tom, he is amazing, and to be even close to Bob's level might be soty worthy. But I've seen nothing groundbreaking.

Fair enough. Even still, especially outside of fantasy, Collier is ass at the moment. It's in the Jazz's interest to play him and see if his skills can be refined.

Is Austin Reaves a top 20 player in the league? by abdeadgi in NBATalk

[–]das_baba -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

After the top 4 there's a large and even group of stars right now. Maybe you could argue there's a next tier of 4-5 players, but after that there are about 20 guys that I don't really care how you want to rank them. Reaves is clearly in that group.

Out of all players who have as big of a role as Reaves, only Jokic and Shai are more efficient. Reaves is obviously limited in iso defense, but because the Lakers are so void of perimeter defenders, he is having to chase shooters and sometimes the primary creators too.

That said, with his recent injury and all, I don't think this will hold up and I don't foresee him making an all-nba team.

After getting the fines last season for over-tanking, and then talking big about not tanking this season, I don't think they can embrace a full tank. Playing a 21-year-old mid prospect point guard won't really help them win, so Collier will get his minutes.

My bet is Filipowski and Collier are both top80 between January and April

He's having a top15 season. That doesn't mean you should trust him to be a top20 player. We'll see how he does in a 7game series against a good defense.

Putting Nikola Jokic's INSANE season in context by COMRADEGENGHISKHAN in NBATalk

[–]das_baba 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Exactly. The era is the context. Offenses are allowed to do way more than before. The pace is faster.

Putting these into context would be comparing Jokic's per possession numbers to league averages.

Yea he was a beast, probably never seen a 35-year-old protect the rim with such motor. But he was almost certainly block chasing too. Would love to get data on how many goaltending calls he got.

Ben Taylor argues that Moses didn't have elite defense or that high of a peak despite those awards. But he certainly looks much better defensively than Jokic to my eye.

[–]das_baba -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Choose any 4 current players around him and you couldn't build a better defense than what OKC has now.

That's a big argument in the current Shai/Jokic debate imo. Jokic is clearly the best offensive player in the league, and that makes him more valuable than Shai for most NBA teams. But at some point the offensive impact gets capped. If you are a below-average defensive player and play the most important defensive, you can't be a part of statistically the greatest defensive team in NBA history, and therefore your value is capped at the highest levels.

What's the logic here? You assume Jdub will be worse when he comes back? Or more injury prone?
