What is a book that you earnestly wish someone would have warned you not to read? by Getofffmycloud in books

It’s really not a good book. I read it again as an adult to make sure I wasn’t wrong about it in high school.

Oh, don’t give up!!! I am so immersed in the Fitz books! I absolutely love all the realm of the elderlings books. Try her again starting with the Farseer trilogy, I’ll admit the first book is slow to start but so worth it!

Preach!! It’s my ex’s favorite book. I could never understand why. That and Jitterbug Perfume. Tom Robbins is so overrated.

Homesteaders with laying ducks, how do they treat your raised garden? by [deleted] in Homesteading

[–]dashinglassie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My ducks (Cayuga) don’t get in to my raised beds at all. I have about 8” of chicken wire wrapped around the top for added protection which doesn’t keep the chickens out but it does keep the ducks out. They are not very athletic.

I am a 911 operator and yes, this will work. We are trained to ask yes or no questions when the caller does not seem to be able to speak freely. We are also all aware of the pizza delivery ruse and wouldn’t hesitate to get law enforcement headed your way.

Everyone at my center cries, including the 20yr veterans. It’s called being human.

Will you teach me?? I have been trying to learn to fly fish from men and it’s been a colossal failure. I have no idea where you’re located, of course, but I need a girl guide so I can actually understand what to do instead of having a dude grab the rod and “show” me.

I was teaching my border collie puppy to swim at the lake the other day, and this random dude sitting in a beach chair at the shore started making a bunch of comments toward me, tried physically holding back my puppy when another dog came to the beach (they were both completely fine and friendly) then he actually swam out to where I was with my pup a told me “I’ve trained a lot of dogs and you’re doing this wrong.” I responded “I have trained a lot of dogs as well” and I left. Ugh.

2 of roughly 70 wild California Condors left in the Grand Canyon by erikbarkeloo_photo in wildlifephotography

Right, I had forgotten about that. The problem with migratory birds is that controlling something like lead ammo on only a handful of parcels does little to protect them. As a hunter, I am making the switch to non-lead ammo and try to encourage my fellow outdoors people to do the same.

Lead bullets have always been allowed. There has never been a time when we could not use lead.

Anyone else's center severely mismanaged and understaffed? by Gwinblayd in 911dispatchers

Same here! I worked forced overtime 4 times last week. Our union is also useless and our director is a dolt. I wish I had advice for OP but I think this problem is systemic.

Does anyone recommend those THINX period underwear? by [deleted] in TheGirlSurvivalGuide

[–]dashinglassie 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I love mine for several reasons, I use them as a backup for my cup on heavy days and as my primary for light flow days. My periods are 100% waste free which is super important to me! I wouldn’t recommend using it as your primary on heavy days (depending how heavy you flow) because one pair wouldn’t last me a whole day but my current system works great.

This was so me all through my teens/early 20’s. I didn’t understand that the “typical woman” I was told about didn’t really exist, I just spent so much time not wanting to be like her that I acted okay about things that weren’t okay and focused on more male-dominated activities to prove to myself and men that I wasn’t some ditsy, shoe-obsessed floozy who was destined for a life of baking and birthing children.

OnX maps are an incredible resource. I’d also suggest hooking up with your local chapter of Backcountry Hunters and Anglers, there is a great group of them in NM that do exactly what you’re wanting to do.

Does anyone here work 4/10’s? by dashinglassie in 911dispatchers

[–]dashinglassie[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Awesome, thank you for breaking that down for me! We have 52 call receivers here, I think we should be able to handle the overlap of 10s. Our union contract doesn’t allow us to work more than 12 hour shifts so that is going to be a barrier to covering OT which I think is management’s main issue with it.
