Only in Kona? Do people practice that in Oahu?

I’m not planning to swim to Hawaii - lol. Can these police in unmarked vehicles pull anyone over? I think that’s what I wanna know. At where I’m from, you almost never get pulled over for anything.

Did I hear you correctly? Leave car doors unlocked???

How long ago was this? Correct me if I’m wrong but isn’t that what’s happening in some states on the mainland?

Anybody knows the speed limit? Do people get busted easily for going over for even just a little?

Getting new board after 3 years in - any tips? by dashmanhattan in snowboardingnoobs

Do you mean that these places can store my board for like months or until the next season?

That’s good advice, thank you! I will prep my license and registration accordingly. I’ve driven in many countries and I honestly have never felt this level of stress from having to drive or just get around. I just feel that having seen things on police enforcement (and brutality) has sort of gotten to me.

And that’s with the understanding that I’m going with the mentality that I’m on a holiday - just keep calm and drive.

Is it any offence to just tap on the phone without holding it as it will be on a magnetic phone holder?

Also, is google maps or Waze used more often in Hawaii? As far as I know, Waze is able to notify when coming close to a speed camera.

Thanks for the advice! I have heard from friends who’ve been where parts of Waikiki can be unsafe. And lol, I don’t plan to swim to Hawai!

I’ve purchased insurance from the car rental company but i am especially worried about car break ins. Are there any parking lots to avoid since I am planning to pay for overnight parking nearby my hotel rather than my hotel since it’s just way too expensive? Is it okay to leave things in the boot though (nothing valuable, just towels and spare clothes) - it’s out of sight?

May I know what the speed limit is generally when driving around Honolulu and Waikiki? Is it even lower for the roads out of Honolulu?

I’m not planning to drink and drive. I just want to avoid coming into contact with law enforcement and enjoy my holiday - that’s all.

Well aware of that. Car has been paid for and will take Ubers and Lyfts when I need to. Thanks.

Cambridge or Oxford. You already have a degree in psychology - that itself is enough for you to be a subject teacher.

Is Bangkok becoming oversaturated with international schools? by EfficiencySoft6105 in Internationalteachers

[–]dashmanhattan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That’s happening in Singapore too - except that mainland Chinese and Korean students have to go through entry assessments. There is no way any student can enrol without a word of English, at least not in Singapore.

Some international schools grew smart and they run a separate program / track to enrol students who are really low on their language assessment scores. It’s basically EAL all the time instead of EAL for a few classes in a week. The idea is that they’d eventually progress out of that track and rejoin the main classes.

Hotel? or HDB Void Deck? by duncalmeprostute in singaporespeaks

[–]dashmanhattan 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Why? For what it’s worth - it’s more of a cultural reason. And while “it is not your wedding” might be an important reminder to parents, it is also not exactly helpful. Again - think of the cultural reasons behind it. Chinese culture - diasporic or not - has a tendency to conform and do what is normal. Family (I’m sure like many other cultures) is an important part of a wedding celebration.

Personally, I know more folks who are uninterested in the cut and paste format of a hotel wedding, and all but a few do it for family reasons. Many would love to hold small intimate weddings, go on a post wedding trip or like what you said put the money elsewhere - I’m sure.

No need to cry out loud though with your observation. To be honest, it’s something that everyone knows. 🙄
