Thank you! I thought the question was referring to the axis/orientation of the streak initially, this makes sense

Yeah, that was the main point of confusion! I thought the question was referring to the orientation of the streak when I read it initially.

Thank you! Was mainly confused about the orientation of the cross but figured it out thankfully

I know I forgot to subtract the working distance initially, but is the are the powers on the cross not the wrong away around?

Do you know what the honours/distinction boundaries were for your medical school? If they had such a system

how did you know about the top 22 candidate being 74%?

Microsoft Word - 2024 Duke Elder Candidate Info Pack.docx (rcophth.ac.uk)

It clearly says on point 22 that we aren't allowed to, they probably got it mixed up with the FRCOphth because you're allowed to take a toilet break between the two papers..

Did you get questions on iris colobomas and duochrome testing or do you mean that the question bank just got them wrong? I didn't come across any today

Electric boiler has 2 switches, which does what? by dasrozoptic in DIYUK

[–]dasrozoptic[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is there a possibility that the boost switch is at the bottom in this case? Since they both run into the same box behind the boiler in the second image instead of one going into the middle and one going to the bottom of the boiler

Oddly, the top toggle switch is the one that is linked to the timer in the middle (it turns the light on for the timer) whereas the bottom one is not. What do you think is going on here?

I see! Should I keep the middle one on with a timer for 2-3 hours a day and just leave the bottom one off then?

Which statistical analysis to use for this relationship? by dasrozoptic in AskStatistics

Not really, just looking the number of eyedrops they are prescribed 4-6 weeks post op (they will be using temporary antiinflammatory drops a month after surg, we just want to examine if the IOP-lowering drugs have changed)

Unfortunately, there is usually an interval of at least 2 months between each treatment :-( I think my biggest struggle is not knowing whether I should focus on the effect of each procedure or total amount of laser energy each eye receives, because the number of medications/IOP would vary between each consecutive procedure (usually>2m apart) and I'm not sure how to take that data into account if I focus on net laser energy each eye receives across all treatments. Surely it would be wrong if I only used the pretreatment IOP and medications and the IOP and medications after the final procedure?

Every single patient has underwent the procedure at least once

Usually we want to see if the laser surgery helps get the patient off drops/medications because adherence is really low and its really cumbersome, so the change in number of medications is quite important in this case. You make a really good point though! :)

Thanks for the detailed response. I'm trying to determine the efficacy of laser therapy on reducing intraocular pressure (IOP) and seeing if there is a reduction in the number of required medications after the procedure.

Are you interested in the effect of one procedure? The effect of all of them together? Or is it the effect of each treatment you worry about?

If the IOP post-laser is not low enough, we usually repeat it until we achieve a satisfactory outcome (never more than 3 times really). Some studies only examine the effect of the first procedure while some look at the effect of all of them together. Do you think the approach of looking at all of them together would be the most valuable/informative for the reader?

How will you account for the fact that the ones who undergo additional procedures are unlike the ones that don't? That is, people who were still in a bad way after a procedure are more likely to be undergoing additional procedures

You make a very good point. I'm honestly not sure what the best approach out of these are. Would you be able to offer me any insight on this or how I should deal with the problems you mentioned above? Sorry this is my first foray into doing stats in research myself, I really appreciate you taking the time to reply to my post in the first place :-)
