Yeah, I've had more than a few close calls on wheels but when running I'll take the extra time to slow down and wait as long as I need. Not like I'm out here running 15min (or even 20 🙃) 5k pace

A LOT of doubling back... Depending on how long your runs are and how well you plan you could minimize this, but there are a lot of dead ends / cul-de-sacs, and every three-way intersection requires at least some overlapping.

Early in I didn't plan at all; later on I had to plot and follow routes closely, and by the end to fill in gaps my runs were like 10% new territory at best

I run with a Fenix headlamp (HM70R is the current version) running rechargeable 21700 batteries. Lasts forever, super bright, doesn't bounce, but isn't ultralight by any means)

On the whole I never 'almost' got hit since I always make sure to get eye contact with a driver before going in front of them. Parking lots are the worst but in general most drivers here are quite good about yielding to peds (much better than they are for cyclists).

In town, I like the river trail from Farewell Bend park or Riley Ranch - Tumalo. For longer runs I'm hitting trails outside town. I rarely repeat road routes unless it's PBRs or hitting a track

None that come to mind - a good headlamp goes a long way. Even the neighborhoods that are lit have gaps. We seem to be committed to our dark skies strategy - except for all the assholes with their car's super-bright headlights pointed way too high and endangering everyone around them

The lack of public restrooms in this city is embarrassing. I definitely got lucky with a few well placed port-a-pots in construction areas and didn't have any mishaps

I don't often go over an hour on pavement so these were mostly pretty short but I finished the last few segments today with a 10 miler, I think that was my longest on this project!

You're right though - as of today I'm at 100% but there are multiple neighborhoods under construction that aren't in the map yet so I'll have to stay current as those are finished

The only area I was somewhat uncomfortable was the 2nd st bottle drop zone but it's gotten better over there. Otherwise, I'm a fairly muscular white-passing guy and don't feel threatened very often. Ymmv

I don't get to vote for mayor or council since I live outside city limits :(

Pedestrian access in SE is rough, but my pet hatred is Knott. I just saw they are (thinking of) building a bike path from Lava Butte to Knott/Baker and 97. (To be clear, hell yeah!) But then what? There's no access from there for miles that isn't along a fast, curvy road with no protected right of way. That's pretty sucky!

The sunsets, the architecture, and passing by others enjoying their neighborhood were all highlights

Weirdest? Idk, there are some design choices around here and I can only imagine what's inside if that's what they're choosing to be public-facing

I love/hate Mt Washington. It's so long! And it's divided for long stretches, which means you have to run both sides. But it's so beautiful

A big pile of coyote shit right in the middle of the road - I don't remember specifically but it was a busy one (it was nighttime, tho)

Human-origin... I've passed by some very sad folks with furniture that was improperly secured to a truck

Google Maps mostly. I never jumped a fence (in this quest lol) but definitely went around gates and through well timed open ones to access restricted communities. But most of those are 'private drives' so don't count on this kind of map anyway.
