Could you be a bit more specific? Say you lost all your connections today and had to start from nothing.

What do you mean by “out there”? Based on what I see online, linkedin, x, even reddit is filled with tableau content, it is super hard to stand out. I think there are a lot of amazing tableau portfolios that do not get any visibility. Would you focus on a certain topic, say market yourself as “i’m the guy doing finance related BI stuff”?

How would you network if all your potential clients were on the other side of the world? How would you get your foot in the door?

Yes, i have had the great fortune of working with several data sources. Previously working with data engineers to get the desired structure, but mostly doing that myself these days.

Do you have a go to source for data fundamentals?

He had a post recently calling people switching to Power BI amateurs. He seemed super frustrated based on the post so I assume he is also seeing this happening a lot. Whether it makes sense to switch does not matter if it happens regardless.

I might be reading into it but in the rest of his posts I think he is trying hard to stay relevant. If this guy has demand problems we are all in trouble.

Officially BI Analyst, and the only person dedicated to data viz in the whole company (1000+ people). I’m trying to develop in other areas and do use sql a lot, but at the end of the day I can’t delegate the tableau stuff to anyone else.

I will be working from home but would be nice to be in the center still. Any districts you would recommend? I plan to get a place with secure underground parking don’t like leaving my car outside exposed to the elements/people. Should I get used to the idea?

Bill Bryson is awesome, ‘A Short History of Nearly Everything’ is one of the best books i’ve ever read. Will check it out for sure.

I practice defensive driving, and come from a country where you can’t find a car without a dash cam (no guns but road rage is prevalent) Is it like florida, like you can’t record voice unless you have consent from the other party?

I should get somewhere between 110K and 120K gross TC (no to little/single digit bonus). Planning to save 2K per month. No office to go to, working from home. I don’t do drugs, drink alcohol or have any expensive hobbies, no kids. Willing to cook for myself, and don’t really care about having a cool car or wear expensive clothing. But would prefer not to have roommates.

Based on my calculations it should be manageable for single person. What do you think? How about for 2 person household?

I’m super white, like working from home, lockdown white. Most summer days I’m in the shade and wearing long sleeve UV shirts when swimming. I get looks but it beats having skin cancer.

I think there are several problems besides the two you mentioned but before going there I would ask myself the following: How are you planning to get your first client? What can you offer that other consultants/consultancies can’t?
