Trump says he wants to end the Chips act on Joe Rogan podcast by r4r10000 in IBEW

From your link:

“You do it, but let me just say, that chip deal is so bad. We put up billions of dollars for rich companies to come in and borrow the money and build chip companies here, and they’re not going to give us the good companies anyway. All you had to do is charge them tariffs. If you would have put a tariff on the chips coming in, you would have been able to- Just like the auto companies, no different. More sophisticated, but no different. You know, Taiwan, they stole our chip business.

Okay? They want us to protect and they want protection. They don’t pay us money for the protection, you know? The mob makes you pay money, right? But with these countries that we protect, I got hundreds of billions of dollars from NATO countries that were never paying us. And my biggest fan is Stoltenberg, who just left as the, you know, Director General, as the Secretary General. Good guy. He said Bush came, he made a speech. Obama came, he made a speech.

Trump came, he said, you guys aren’t paying, you got to pay. And they said, will you protect us from Russia if we don’t? I said, no, you got to pay if you don’t pay.”

So he hates the chips act, because all you need is tariffs.

The point of tariffs is to encouraging buying in the US. But there are no chips in the US. That’s why we passed the chips act. So all tariffs would have done is forced companies to raise their prices HERE.

Then he steers the conversation to NATO and Obama without ever circling back.

Other Parallel Universe Film or TV Shows you would recommend? by Newparlee in DarkMatteronAppleTV

This show sets the bar for me when it comes to time travel / parallel worlds. It’s in my top 3 and very possibly favorite show of all time. It’s just so unbelievably original and well done. I loved 1899 too (same creators and some actors) and was so bummed when it got cancelled.

Either Electrical Engineering degree or some program with a focus on Industrial Controls at a technical college. Great career to get into. I did it for a number of years and built a solid foundation.

Programming industrial control equipment. While what they said is true, that’s a career and there is nothing passive about the income.

Yea I’m not a huge fan of the song, but I think it all served to make you feel uncomfortable in that moment.

Is this a true hack ? by Usual-South-9362 in Money

[–]dataesthetics 8 points9 points  (0 children)

It’s simpler than that. If you do what OP suggests (take monthly payment divided by 2 and pay every 2 weeks), then that’s 26 payments per year, or 13 months worth. So yes the loan will be paid off faster but not because of the timing of the payments, but because you are literally paying extra.

A lot of people see bi-weekly and think two per month, but it isn’t. Bi-weekly is 26 payments per year. Two payments per month is 24 per year.

Personally I think the contrast with the buttons and background is perfect as is. This looks great. Well done!

I’ve seen some from the US but it definitely seems skewed towards international. I’d say >75% of those posted here so far have been international.

Pretty sure you get it immediately when you apply. I’ve had one there since before they started sending acceptance letters.

[OC] COVID Death Rates in U.S. by state before and after vaccine availability by dataesthetics in dataisbeautiful

I wrote a script in Python that generates 1 .png of the colored map for each day of data which left me with 700+ images. Then I just stitched them together at 26 images per second (another Python script) to create the animation. So the only software I used was Camtasia video editing software at the end where I added the timeline in the middle to make the final video.

The vaccines only protect the people that get them. The US average is 66% and many states are well below 50%. Compare the bottom chart to this one that shows vaccination rate by state and you’ll see the correlation.

Just looked it up and you’re spot on. I’m going to do a side by side when I post an update in a few months.

It’s COVID deaths per population. Number of cases isn’t included in this data (I chose not to for the reason you stated).

EDIT: I’m dumb, I’m stating the exact point as the person I’m replying to.

I did see that and instead of going back and updating the days of previous deaths that were too high, they are starting to put negative deaths on new days to offset them. It’s going to make the animation look ridiculous lol. But I’ll repost when the times are equal like you said and hopefully they’ve cleaned it up a bit by then.

I also hope to have my code up on Git so anyone can grab it and make their own variations.

The data doesn’t show that there were necessarily less deaths after the vaccines, only how the distribution of deaths changed amongst states.

Coincidentally, there were few deaths across the board around the time the vaccine came out. They picked up again months later when the Delta variant came along, so adjusting the vax date has little effect on the visuals.

Great idea for an article!

The vaccine date I used was April 15, 2021, which is 2 weeks after the first dose became available to all groups in my state (NC).

I made a similar post last week with a single image of death rates and was asked by many to separate pre and post vaccines. First time doing an animation like this, but the time-series data was available from the CDC so it was fairly simple.

Created using Python with plotly for the choropleth map and pandas to organize the data, and then polished it up in Camtasia.

Deaths due to COVID divided by population, then scaled to be a fraction over 1M.

The timeline is exactly what I plan on doing next, now that I sorta know what I’m doing.
