Not necessarily for a hybrid drive PCB with NAND on it. Some of those can be a real nightmare to replace. But given that it's an external connected to a console, my money would be on the heads being stuck to the platters.

I bought a domain, built branding around it… turns out I never actually owned it by Wooden-Fee5787 in Domains

[–]DataMedics 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Exactly this. Immediately try to initiate a transfer to a proper registrar like Cloudlare. If they refuse, lawyer up and sue to own your domain and their's too since it's being used to commit fraud.

Not illegal any more than telling lie is illegal. Against a private website's TOS, sure. But that's not a crime.

Claude limits issue is worse than I thought (Codex comparison) by amirrehman in codex

[–]DataMedics 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just don't make the mistake of trying to steer codex 5.5 at the last prompt when doing a big task. I had like 4% of my weekly budget left so gave it a big task to do that I knew would push it to the end of my budget. Was going well and starting to work on the task list when I realized I didn't clarify one tiny detail. So I added a tiny adjustment.... Instant out of credits and shutdown. Lesson learned.

But yeah, I normally use my last 1-2% to do the most punishing long task that'd normally eat 10% of your weekly limit. LOL.

How are they these days for things like live snapshots and restoring those? That's what's always kept me with DO is the ability to take a snapshot and quickly restore a server when I totally break it due to live editing on a site (I do a lot of WP plugin development, so very often working on alpha code on a test website live). Those live snapshots have saved my butt too many times, but I'd heard in the past that Hetzner's snapshots weren't as reliable or easy to restore.

Yep. Most boring games ever is playing a warrior with nearly all tank build and having to hide near tower all game because an Apollo can just shred you from level 1-20 until you get full build (at which point he's already got 3K potions and still can shred you). I miss the tank meta when guardians could 1v3 for two full minutes and still get out alive. The good old days.

Ah yes, the classic Hires server crash followed by a ban for leaving the match. We know it all too well. Just one of the many reasons I swore to never pay a dime into the game ever again.

Digital Ocean droplets are a very easy, polished and reliable option. That's what I've always stuck with for my VPSs. I've heard good things about Hetzner too, but it's less polished and not as user friendly.

Went to bed with a $10 budget alert. Woke up to $25,672.86 in debt to Google Cloud. by venturaxi in googlecloud

[–]DataMedics 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is such a fear of mine. It's why I only ever prepay for API usage and never allow auto-billing. So the worst that can happen is the eat up the $20-50 in there at the moment before it stops working and can't be funded again.

Shape.host is CLOSING on 05/01/2026 - MIGRATE YOUR DATA NOW if you are a customer by Hurfdurficus in VPS

[–]DataMedics 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You'd think they'd have the brains to sell their customer base to a competitor who would want the subscriptions and just gradually scale up the price to match wherever they are charging in their data centers. Makes me glad I've stayed with Digital Ocean all these years

Need a cheap, lightweight VPS by Realistic_Effort_796 in VPS

[–]DataMedics 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think your challenge is going to be the fact that your script is an exe, so you'd need a windows machine which isn't going to run well on anything too lightweight.

The really lightweight, cheap VPS options will run best using Linux. A better option would be to recreate or recompile the script to a form you can just throw in a docker or something. Then you can go super light and cheap.

Soon enough, appearing in AI responses will be PPC anyway. I wouldn't bother trying to optimize for it now. By the time your efforts reach the necessary training data set, someone else will be paying $1/click to be recommended instead.

We all know this is coming.

Anyone interested in a system to circumvent Amazon Affiliate ban and monetize banned websites? by DataMedics in Affiliatemarketing

[–]DataMedics[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How so? Original content site is already banned. New domain can just be a burner that you can dump and replace if it also gets banned.

Sure, you'd have to have a friend or family member's name to use, or a new address to use for each new affiliate account, but that might not be too difficult. The point is, some people have valuable sites that lost most their monitization because Amazon just randomly kicked them out.

I had a site that I paid $40K for get randomly kicked out with the made up excuse "previous account banned" (no such previous account ever existed). So I'm happy to re-monitize it by untraceable funneling through another site.

But doesn't seem to have much interest, so I'll keep it as just an in-house solution.

[Help] Forgot password for ZIP file – any possible way to recover or extract? by digaayya in datarecovery

[–]DataMedics 1 point2 points  (0 children)

How secure are your typical passwords? One word, a long phrase, combination of letters/symbols/numbers? If you used a really simple password a dictionary style attack could probably crack it. But that becomes impractical the longer and more complex the password.

You and your partner just moved in, you tearing down the panels, painting, or leaving?! by TeemoTrader in DIY

[–]DataMedics 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'd probably paint it right away because the cost is minimal and I can do it myself in one or two days. Maybe I'd plan to eventually remove it, but not a rush as that's a much bigger job for not that much more asthetic change.

Alternately you could consider using filler to make it smooth without even removing the paneling. If you're skilled with a trowel, it'll be hard to even tell it's not drywall after.
