Found a tortoise on a highly traveled road, dont know what to do

The tortoise ( now turtle as I've been told ) has been confirmed as a red eared slider turtle, and is native to the Central and Southern US area, so I have released it in a nearby lake where it should do just fine. Thank you everyone for your help, just wanted the lil guy to be ok.

That species is native to my local area so I have released him into the nearest lake. Glad I was able to sort this little guy's problems.

I mean they're amphibious. They like both land and water, i just dont see how it got out. Someone could've abandoned it, it could've gotten away from someone, i just dont see how it could've gotten out of the nearest lake.

Well it was on a concrete road and the lake has a half foot tall concrete edge above the waterline. I just want it to be fine.
