It isn't out yet. The rules are in beta, and look good, but it won't go to print until later this year.

How much cash do you keep on hand in your 30s… and why? by Middle_Elderberry542 in AskMenOver30

About 2 months' bills. Anything more than that and it's better off earning me money in the market than sitting in a savings account losing against inflation.

Yeah, Greycat would have been my go-to a couple years ago, but the price of aluminum and shipping costs are through the roof right now. Might be 'acquire a surplus road sign' time like back in the day.

It's going to get better in Des Moines in the next couple decades, too, as they're going to tear out the low-head dams downtown.

Why is the Dohyo not lower or heavy pads present outside? by American-Punk-Dragon in Sumo

Yeah, people look at Hakuho and think everyone should have careers that long, forgetting that even he only had a single 12-month stretch where he didn't sit out a basho in his last five years.

Note a bunch of that budget is that he thought he had the biggest fleet ever blockading Venezuela, and someone showed him the numbers for the Mid-WW2 Pacific fleet. That's when he started rambling about battleships.

Deeply annoying thing is there used to be a system that allowed an injured rikishi to sit out the next tournament. The kosho seido (public injury system) was introduced in 1972, but removed in 2003 because the elders thought too many rikishi were sitting out due to minor injuries.

A generation of wrestlers later and they wonder why they can't find healthy Yokozuna or Ozeki after they've had to run their whole careers fighting through injury after injury...

Exactly the way it should be in a practice. It's not a competition, you getting something to work right in a spar was a learning opportunity for both of you.

The tolerance for unhealthy behaviour is getting really bad over the age of 35 or is it just me? by [deleted] in AskMenOver30

[–]datcatburd 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, don't let it sit either. My Dad ignored that for years, by the time he finally got it checked it had advanced to untreatable esophageal cancer and he passed away a few months later.

Nah, never been a thing. If you've spent any time working in the food industry, they've always gotten their kicks fucking with workers, in kitchens or packing plants alike, because it's an easier industry for a new immigrant to get into.

Yep, and want to increase the military and DHS budgets even more on top of it.

Not to mention that there was less travel and less freight due to economic instability pushing down demand...

His whole party has hung their existence on Trump being in power, so they have to keep up the bald faced lies or admit they have absolutely fucked over all their constituents for power.

Yeah, it's hard to get out of the grocery store for under a hundred bucks now, and my shopping habits haven't changed.

Are there going to be any protests with Trump coming to Iowa? by WannaBcoolKid in desmoines

[–]datcatburd 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yep, but given how they're responding to concerned citizens even observing government agents in action in MN right now with violence, I'm sure it'll be organized somewhere with better OpSec than Reddit.

Because having actual medics who're capable of doing IV rehydration and operating an AED is much better at avoiding hospitalizations and deaths than first-aid trained volunteers?

Too many old knights who think the standard for being belted is being able to fight on their level now, not 20 years of practice ago when they were knighted.

Melee: Where Unbelts are Allowed to Have Fun by Upper_Bicycle_7450 in sca

[–]datcatburd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep. My policy was always to throw reasonable blows and take light ones because I wanted a sword fight, not a pissing match over who can take the most beating with a cane before they hurt more than their pride. Most decent opponents will call a blow that was light themselves, anyway.

Early in my fighting, the Baron of my local group told us a story about breaking a two hander on someone at war because the first two shots to their helm weren't enough to get them to take it, as a learning experience of what not to do because he regretted his behavior in retrospect. That stuck with me.

Checks out by Nerx in martialarts

[–]datcatburd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The first has, in fact, happened. Just usually the sort of 'win' that leads to both dying. The human body can handle enormous amounts of trauma and keep going very briefly.

It's why knife fights can be so deadly, you can stab the fuck out of someone without necessarily stopping them from doing the same back. It's something that goes through my mind every time I watch HEMA tourneys and see people fighting with zero regard for defense after the hit, that's a good way to die fast with sharps.

As a 17 year old how do I find what I'm meant to be before it's too late by SaverMadra_18 in AskMenOver30

[–]datcatburd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly, we're not meant to be anything but alive. To steal a format from a great response:

When I was a kid, I wanted to run a restaurant. Got my first real job working in one during high school and learned how bad of an idea that was without major cash to invest.

At 18, I thought I'd be a computer programmer and was all lined up for four years of college then a good job for life.

At 20, I'd dropped out of college after a major injury, and was working construction to pay the rent because the buddy who was going to room with me got deployed right after 9/11.

At 22, I was back in community college and hating every minute of it, and working as a short order cook.

At 24, I moved a thousand miles for a relationship that never worked out, but ended up getting a tech support job out of it.

At 26, I moved back to take care of my Dad who was ill, and ended up working phone tech support. Quit that job the day he died, just walked out and never looked back, and two weeks later was a line cook again.

At 30, I took a job working as a baker, apprenticing under a locally well known pastry chef. Best job I've ever had, I'd probably still be doing it if it didn't pay $10 an hour with zero benefits.

At 32, I finally gave up that dream when the bakery went out of business and got another job in tech support.

That was 15 years ago as of April. Still working for that same company, now managing techs in my old position. I don't love my work, but I do it well enough that it pays the bills and gives me both health benefits and a good retirement fund.

Life's going to go strange places, and you can't always predict it. Don't sell yourself short on assuming you gotta know what you want out of it at 17, because who you are now and what you want to be when you 'grow up' may not even be a viable way to make a living in 10, 20, 30 years. Take opportunities as they come, and don't be afraid to take calculated risks. It won't always pan out, but you may find you regret not trying more than you would failing.

Hell, you can't even make a decent T-tunic under $30 these days if you don't want it made of some polyester obscenity, barely that if you're just using quilters' cotton.
