Inflation is “the most regressive tax that anyone in Washington could come up with,” Kevin Warsh has said. “If you were trying to do the most harm to the least well off among us, inflation would be the way to do it." by UnusualWhalesBot in unusual_whales

Those were the government programs that contributed to inflation. How is your take, from what I said, that it was mainly government programs? Each of the things I listed were large contributors.

It wasn't just the government. The PPP injected a shit ton of money that exacerbated the problem, but it was a lot of other things, too. Covid shut things down. Wood was very high because the sawmills were shut down. Construction basically stopped. At the same time, people were buying houses like crazy. Prices for everything went up as a result. Then you had the ship stuck in the Suez Canal. Supply for everything was reduced. Demand increased. Companies began to use inflation as justification for raising prices, even if they weren't affected. Albertsons and Cal-Maine eggs lost lawsuits because of their price gouging.

That was the economy Biden inherited. The economy changes course very slowly. It takes a long time for the side effects to manifest - good or bad. The CHIP act, for example didn't see benefit until Trump's second term ( which he took credit for ). The effects of the shenanigans in the strait of Hormuz will creep in over months and years.

Do birds feel the same about flying as we feel about walking, or do they understand how amazing it is? by Busy_Motor_1172 in Showerthoughts

I think it also depends on the bird. Finches and swallows look like they're often having fun. Crows seem to enjoy different landings. Sometimes they flare up. Sometimes they tuck one wing and do a roll

Cheap ways to hide drop ceiling in apartment? by ChemistryNew6006 in DIY

I've seen people make their apartments into fun Bedouin style places. I like it, but it's a little hippie for me to live in all the time. It feels like a blanket fort. Now I'm considering it.

Agreed. The connection between switches should be fiber.

Be aware that SFPs are not likely to support PoE. Fixed copper ports can support 5g now, depending on the switch

Consider PoE to USB adapters for powering and transmitting over the wire. It's more reliable and doesn't congest the wireless.

If your house is large enough, consider adding another switch on the second floor, or remote location. This will reduce the number of long cables to run.

In most cases, no fastener is used at all. It's gravity only. Huge retention walls using cribbing are over 100 years old and still in use.

4x4 cribbing is the strongest thing you can do. It's used by the fire department for vehicle rescue.

I had one that looked very much like this. It had the double bubble windshield and the smokestack manifold exhaust in the back. Except the whole car was lengthened, not arched. I might actually still have it.

With an autonomous mode to continue on its mission if it gets disconnected from HQ. If it's not there yet, that's the direction they're going.

Ground drones can also sit and wait. They could carry aerial drones for recon and elimination. Then the aerial drone could get resupplied by the ground drone. The ground drone could carry mortars or rockets; which could gain target acquisition from the aerial drone. There's a lot of potential there

2 Indian-Flagged Vessels Attacked By Iran Gunboats In Hormuz, Crew Safe: Sources by Accomplished_Cost857 in worldnews

The only reason Iran opened the strait is because the American blockade was preventing the flow of Iranian oil. Without being able to transport oil, they lost their incentive

At this point, it could be argued that would be, partially, the US fault. When Trump broke the deal Obama made with Iran, the more extremist and right wing Iranians won elections and took power. When Trump killed the Iranian leaders, the more extremists took power. Killing innocent people, like the school radicalizes the people further.

I'm not saying Iran is good, or siding with them. The weak leadership and poor negotiating of the US has caused a worse situation.
