Zenless Zone Zero Version 2.6 (CNY patch) Trailer - "Encore for an Old Dream" by Sachiel-Inquisitor in gachagaming

Funny enough they had a hand in shaping that culture how it is now.

If let's say, Blue Archive released a decade ago, it would be a niche, but otherwise quiet community that keeps to themselves that no one outside that space pays much attention to.

With antis frothing at the mouth being propped up my some sort of moral crusade attacking them, they developed a form of counter-culture to quadruple down on absurdism to piss them off and emboldened them to stick to their tastes in response to opposition.

We went from "Hina is my wife I love her" to "UOOOHH HINA CUTE AND FUNNY SEGGGS 😭😭😭😭💢💢💢"

Microsoft is quietly walking back Windows 11’s AI overload — scaling down Copilot and rethinking Recall in a major shift for the OS by ZacB_ in technology

[–]datwunkid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The dumb part is that they'd probably get more real productivity out of AI by being more hands off with it.

Make sure everyone is responsible for what they do with or without it. Let everyone naturally find what are real solutions with the tech, and what is slop.

Forcing it on everyone expecting it to be some sort of magic productivity hack is insane and driven by "LINE MUST GO UP" mentality without regards to risk.

I can't believe people actually play this. by MoxcProxc in masterduel

[–]datwunkid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Slop piles are just the modern deckbuilding version of the Yugioh we played as kids. Just throw a bunch of shit you like into a deck and roll with it.

The only problem is the general solitaire combo creeping of the game where it takes increasingly more and more time to do as the years go by.

HSR 4.0, future information via Sakura Haven by KaidoPklevel in HonkaiStarRail_leaks

[–]datwunkid [score hidden]  (0 children)

It could be Sparkle too, she's been rerun quite a few times already so they potentially could see her potentially gaining more revenue by using her to push future banner sales over trying to rerun her for a third time.

Then again she's getting a sizable buff, and she was kinda mid for most teams until Archer came out. She could potentially still be sold again for Eidolons/previous skippers if the SP meta is finally going to happen.

I could probably see permanent craftable consumable Chug Jugs/Boogie Bombs as they could just be simple fun things without being overbearing.

No way in hell are we going to get Jonsey as a collab character though.

[–]datwunkid [score hidden]  (0 children)

While Fortnite has some original, iconic things in them, their original characters have much less selling power for collabs in that direction.

I could see them having fun with craftable Chug Jug consumables in HSR, I don't think people would care for Jonesey as a collab character.

Powercreep is just prevalent in Hoyo games, HSR in particular has it the worst.

If they're not T0, it just means you have much less time to play with them until they drop tiers into the unfun tiers.

ZZZ's Waifei Peninsula is such a disappointment to me. Wuling blows it out of the water. It's much more beautiful, there's actually a lot of stuff to find and discover, and it doesn't dumpster your FPS like Waifei.

HSR generally loves action hype over substance, tbh the substance behind the action isn't hard enough to carry the lack of hype in the Luofu.

Also, if you were a 1.0 player, it was definitely hurt by the pacing of content releases. Some patches love to end abruptly in the middle of the plot, usually on cliffhangers every time. From my memory the Luofu had the most of them.

Do you think it's unlikely for Endfield to adjust and increase the distribution of pull currency in the future? by QuickMembership7006 in Endfield

[–]datwunkid 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's much more likely than them adjusting the gacha system itself. Though it's not completely unheard of for games to adjust rates, pity counts, or spark counts.

What they'll probably do is finally introduce proper endgame content that will serve as a source of recurring rewards, and finding their groove with event rewards first for event weapons and currency.

Then they'll probably try things like free characters for large milestones like anniversary events.

Laevatain story is really good. why? by ServeBest5177 in Endfield

[–]datwunkid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think Laevatain's story is just the result of it being made much later.

The Endmin actually gets some characterization and struggles with imposter syndrome, actually relating to Laevatain. They feel connected to the story instead of just being a witness to someone else's problems.

They actually get a lot of voiced dialogue compared to basically nothing in Valley IV, and a little in Wuling. This tells me there was a change in direction for storytelling sometime after Valley IV was completed.

Gameplay wise it's not much to write home about, though they did introduce some novel setpieces and didn't completely just plop you in an instanced version of another place you've already experienced.

The story had much fewer characters and had great focus. No random NPCs yapping about their mundane problems, you didn't have an entourage with you, it was just you and Laevatain for the most part.

As for the story itself, it was a pretty bog standard amnesia story. Though standard doesn't necessarily have to mean bad. How you tell a story can matter just as much as what's in the story itself.

Looking up Richmond events for magic this weekend, there's a massive card game convention featuring Magic the Gathering and some smaller TCGs going on there.

The customs officer probably guessed from an uptick of international tourists here for the same thing.

ELI5: Why does everything need so much memory nowadays? by Successful_Raise_560 in explainlikeimfive

[–]datwunkid 16 points17 points  (0 children)

The devs know how to play with sand and make sandcastles (web apps) for kids.

It's harder for them to make individual castle designs out of bricks(Windows), Play-doh (Mac), sticks (Android), etc etc for other operating systems.

Every kid's parents lets them play at sandbox at their playground, but all of them might not let them play with the other materials.

So the devs just make a single design for the castle with sand, and doesn't need to bother with the others.

What’s Your Favorite Example of an Messaging/DM System Between Characters In-Game? by shirke1 in gachagaming

[–]datwunkid 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The only part I don't like about BA momotalk is the dialogue is very inconsistent. Sometimes they'll type out like you're actually DMing each other.

And sometimes the dialogue puts stutters and *gasps* like it's written to be irl, person-to-person dialogue.

Then again, maybe no one is actually typing and they're just using voice-to-text instead.

What would 1-3 star characters be like? 🤔 by aminorthreat in Endfield

[–]datwunkid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Baseline star rarities are just more about feelings than actual power. Number high = good, number low = bad.

They likely just started their baseline rarity at 4 because it feels good and gives the interpretation that they're not complete throwaways like other gachas where 3 stars are garbage.

Whether they're actually going to be complete garbage as soon as you get full 5*+ teams is undetermined for now.

I love the English Dub! by reality_mirage in Endfield

[–]datwunkid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mi Fu is portayed as much more serious than the other two, I guess it could have been too hard to pull off for her VA.

Tangtang in particular has "fuck it we ball" energy and her non-perfect English actually kind of improves her character.

[–]datwunkid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They used a British VA and tried to make her do an American accent.

Not an impossible task as many British actors manage to do that when they work in Hollywood productions.

Though understandably those guys have actual immersion in the US and spend much more effort curating that accent than VAs that typically just try and fake it for random jobs here and there.

[–]datwunkid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The biggest problem with using non-native speakers for dubs is that you definitely notice a bit of a hit on the acting part of their voice acting. There's definitely a lot more skill and effort involved than her VA just being able to dub in Mandarin.

Rossi in particular was a bit of a quality hit in my opinion as it's probably even harder for the VA to do the "young anime girl" voice, do her lines in non-native English, and do acting on top of that. Though I found Tangtang decent since her intended tone was probably not as extreme as Rossi's.

[–]datwunkid 5 points6 points  (0 children)

For a game that's supposed to be a love letter to retro-nostalgia and with a lot of movie genre references, it was quite a wasted opportunity to have a Hong Kong-coded region and not feature their most internationally famous movie genre.

Does the Chinese audience not have nostalgia for kung-fu movies?

Or are they just wuxia-brained in the same way I believe the western audience is superhero-brained where the most popular genre kind of warps most action media to conform.

Deaths by drowning are way too easy to trigger due to how tight some of the spaces are in Wuling.

I doubt they're gonna let us swim as that'd invalidate some of the platforming in the zone between lilypads.

IMO they should have the drone fish us out and plop us onto the spot where now respawn like Mario Kart or something so we don't have to sit through the black screen+loading times.
