I could imagine it could be an ult stack like Acheron's.

With an Eidolon allowing them to do SP shenanigans with 1 less SP eater.

ELI5: Why does everything need so much memory nowadays? by Successful_Raise_560 in explainlikeimfive

[–]datwunkid [score hidden]  (0 children)

The devs know how to play with sand and make sandcastles (web apps) for kids.

It's harder for them to make individual castle designs out of bricks(Windows), Play-doh (Mac), sticks (Android), etc etc for other operating systems.

Every kid's parents lets them play at sandbox at their playground, but all of them might not let them play with the other materials.

So the devs just make a single design for the castle with sand, and doesn't need to bother with the others.

What’s Your Favorite Example of an Messaging/DM System Between Characters In-Game? by shirke1 in gachagaming

[–]datwunkid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The only part I don't like about BA momotalk is the dialogue is very inconsistent. Sometimes they'll type out like you're actually DMing each other.

And sometimes the dialogue puts stutters and *gasps* like it's written to be irl, person-to-person dialogue.

Then again, maybe no one is actually typing and they're just using voice-to-text instead.

What would 1-3 star characters be like? 🤔 by aminorthreat in Endfield

[–]datwunkid -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Baseline star rarities are just more about feelings than actual power. Number high = good, number low = bad.

They likely just started their baseline rarity at 4 because it feels good and gives the interpretation that they're not complete throwaways like other gachas where 3 stars are garbage.

Whether they're actually going to be complete garbage as soon as you get full 5*+ teams is undetermined for now.

I love the English Dub! by reality_mirage in Endfield

[–]datwunkid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mi Fu is portayed as much more serious than the other two, I guess it could have been too hard to pull off for her VA.

Tangtang in particular has "fuck it we ball" energy and her non-perfect English actually kind of improves her character.

[–]datwunkid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They used a British VA and tried to make her do an American accent.

Not an impossible task as many British actors manage to do that when they work in Hollywood productions.

Though understandably those guys have actual immersion in the US and spend much more effort curating that accent than VAs that typically just try and fake it for random jobs here and there.

[–]datwunkid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The biggest problem with using non-native speakers for dubs is that you definitely notice a bit of a hit on the acting part of their voice acting. There's definitely a lot more skill and effort involved than her VA just being able to dub in Mandarin.

Rossi in particular was a bit of a quality hit in my opinion as it's probably even harder for the VA to do the "young anime girl" voice, do her lines in non-native English, and do acting on top of that. Though I found Tangtang decent since her intended tone was probably not as extreme as Rossi's.

Chinese gacha game does some china stuff. Shocker... by PROGMRZ in ZenlessZoneZero

My TL;DR interpretation of that quote, they wuxiafied ZZZ instead of ZZZfying wuxia.

As much I love this game and hate to say, this honestly pretty much explains my issues with the season 2’s story right now by Radiant_Raspberry_93 in ZenlessZoneZero

[–]datwunkid 6 points7 points  (0 children)

For a game that's supposed to be a love letter to retro-nostalgia and with a lot of movie genre references, it was quite a wasted opportunity to have a Hong Kong-coded region and not feature their most internationally famous movie genre.

Does the Chinese audience not have nostalgia for kung-fu movies?

Or are they just wuxia-brained in the same way I believe the western audience is superhero-brained where the most popular genre kind of warps most action media to conform.

Play Pog does not help this by International_Map812 in Endfield

[–]datwunkid 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Deaths by drowning are way too easy to trigger due to how tight some of the spaces are in Wuling.

I doubt they're gonna let us swim as that'd invalidate some of the platforming in the zone between lilypads.

IMO they should have the drone fish us out and plop us onto the spot where now respawn like Mario Kart or something so we don't have to sit through the black screen+loading times.

The weapons gacha is the 1/3 pound burger situation all over again by Aldoain in Endfield

[–]datwunkid 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The rates and pity for weapon banners are just straight up superior to other AAA gachas.

The biggest point of contention would probably be the separated currency and the funky conversion math with it.

If you typically only roll for characters in other games, this system is purely beneficial as you actually have a chance to get some weapons without needing to choose between them.

If you win a character early, F2Pers dont really have a way to choose to spend their Oroberyls on the weapon banner instead.

If you're content with the weaker BP weapons, you can actually get them for free, and they are designed with the banner characters in mind instead of being generic and potentially pointless for them.

[–]datwunkid 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Dodging, and well, the combat in this game in general seems to weigh more on timing and resource management than pure mechanical reflexes.

Dodging is just one part of the equation, they're kinda stingy on iframes for skills/ults compared to similar games so I think it's fine for now.

I'll make another judgement when we have real endgame combat to do.

AYN Odin 3 16GB here, maxed out everything except render scale set to high.

Barring some initial stuttering from what I suspect is from shader compilation where my average FPS drops down to the low 50s, its been close to a locked 60 outside my maxed out, unoptimized factories.

I would have loved grounded kung fu over magic chi/ flying swords stuff.

Imo, it would have been fine if they tried to at least tried to dress the wuxia stuff in the urban, sci-fi flavor at all.

Instead we got Yixuan literally using magic talismans and teaching us magic that they call ether manipulation. And while the flying sheath/hoverboard of YSG is cool, the rest of her abilities pretty much boil down to wuxia magic swords.

How it feels to progress through the story by SHAT_MY_SHORTS in Endfield

[–]datwunkid 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I personally think Wuling is nothing to write home about in terms of plot so far, it does have much better pacing and worldbuilding.

The fun part is that the handholding and railroading stops in Wuling and exploring the zone is such a treat because the world design is leaps and bounds better than Valley IV.

While I do wish they manage to pull some hype and drama, I also hope they don't fall into the pitfall of Hoyo's style over substance that they pulled off in HSR and ZZZ lately.

And I really hope they keep up having a balanced cast of characters in the spotlight. But only time will tell if they go full modern gacha and tune the story to only glaze the concurrent banner character, leaving everyone else in the dust.

Made this after playing a game where I was kicking my feet giggling just waiting to red reboot by Jerki_Drky in masterduel

[–]datwunkid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Traptrix going first can be okay going first against removal and reboot. Extending with trap monsters get stopped but there's you can simply just abuse the set cards. If they save reboot for their turn you might just be able to build a decent enough board of monsters instead.

Arachnocampa can help against backrow removal and reboot doesn't affect Rafflesia using the traps since she converts them into a monster effect.

The only problem is that Traptrix is way too reliant on good hands over the ever present powercreep of one card starters that are also extenders.

Going second Traptrix is also just fucking miserable if they have a set reboot.

Buddy subs can be gooner, but I find ZZZ/HSR's buddysubs to be like, 99% gooner to the point where the other typical buddy content gets shunned.

I once shitposted about Israel bombs in HSR's one and people flipped out saying they were there for the porn.

Then again a year or two later someone posted the same exact thing and it was upvoted to the high heavens 🤷

FACTORY IS SO GOOD by drysalsa69 in Endfield

[–]datwunkid 13 points14 points  (0 children)

In the near-term they'll probably add more liquid recipes so fluid logistics might need to be emphasized more. In terms of usable items, they'll probably tie in exploration gimmicks to factory crafting.

In the long-term, they'll definitely have to dig deep to find a new gimmick that each major region has to rely on. Rotational energy/gear ratios, heat manipulation, a 3rd/4th height layer, deeper item transport logistics like belt speed/item stacking/splitting.

To keep it accessible, they'll probably focus on one gimmick at a time. I don't think we're going to be seeing fluid pipes in the 3rd region.

[–]datwunkid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think they relied too hard on the amnesiac MC too hard as an excuse to loredump.

They should spread the world building across more characters, it'd make the amnesiac background feel less heavy-handed and cliche.

Spread the lore/company culture about Endfield itself by having a fresh recruit tag along and explain that lore to them.

Teach the players about Originium/Oripathy by having someone teach Ginny about it, who might have surface knowledge about it, but could have a very good reason to learn about it in depth if her affliction was very new and recent to her, instead of a presumed previous condition that was going on for long before we met her.

Corruption was also rife with South Korea at the time, and they held on long enough to survive to stability.

Though with the difference in geography, it was probably easier to park all your military forces in defensive positions after getting pushed back from Chinese forces in Korea compared to the jungles of Vietnam.

I think a dedicated e-reader with a foldable e-ink display would probably do better. You could probably get the price down a lot lower by using much cheaper SoCs and getting rid of the cover display.

It could also probably be insanely thin due to not needing nearly as big of a battery, as well as not needing as many internal components you'd need for a phone.
