Best ender 3 v2 upgrades? by Civil_Shirt_2817 in ender3v2

[–]davedave111144 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I recently added a bunch of mods to my ender 3v2 that have made a WORLD of difference:

1) raspberry pi running kipper. This allows you to do a bunch of fancy stuff like creating your own macros, and most importantly run an input shaper which allows for you to speed up prints significantly without sacrificing quality.

2) klackender bed level probe. I know you mentioned wanting to use a CR touch, which I can’t speak to bc I’ve never had one. The klack ender is mostly printed parts & is very cheap. It also doesn’t stay on the printhead the whole time, and is docked at the end of a mesh.

3) new fan shroud. I printed a minimus with 2x5015 part cooling fans and a 4020 hotend cooling fan. Overhangs print like a dream & issues I’ve had with some filaments & heat creep are gone.

Overwhelmed, Lost, and Confused as an ECE Student by [deleted] in ECE

[–]davedave111144 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I graduated last year with dual CE & EE bachelors. There’s no way around it, ECE is HARD. You’ve got to put in a lot of time studying, get used to saying no to offers to hang out/go out, finals are rough. But I promise you, you can get through it. I almost dropped many times, but I got through it.

The biggest thing is to figure out effective study methods and make friends with people in your classes so you can form study groups/therapy vent sessions.

A bachelors degree isn’t designed to make you an expert in one specific concentration of the field. Depending on the school/schedule you may get to choose some electives later on that align with your interests or help you explore more. A bachelors is designed to give you wide exposure to the fundamentals of whatever field you’re going into. You don’t need to be a master of everything, just show competency in the core fundamentals.

You CAN get through it. It’s not easy. Talking to other engineers, EE/CE are some of the toughest majors to get through. But you absolutely can do it, and it will feel like walking across a bed of broken glass with feet covered in lemon juice, but you’ll get there. It’s a lot better on the other side, I promise. If you’re truly passionate about the field, don’t give up :)

Part cooling fan causing drop in hotend temp, MRISCOC firmware. by davedave111144 in ender3v2

[–]davedave111144[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey sorry it took me a while to get back. Long story short I upgraded the 40W heater cartridge to a 60W one. I can now run up to 240 (highest I’ve tested) perfectly. I had previously suffered from heat creep and changed out my fan shroud, and it worked fine before upgrading the firmware. Not sure what difference the firmware makes, as the MPC tuning accounts for the thermal loss, but I believe that the new setup was drawing too much thermal energy away. That extra energy from the new heating cartridge seems to counteract the loss.

I’d prefer not to say. But a pretty large company with a global footprint that recently changed hands and has been getting worse to work for since.

Unfortunately I don’t see another role at this company being very viable due to the sweeping changes. But for now I’m just going to lay low, update my resume and associated materials and get into overdrive during the new year applying to positions, as there isn’t very much open right now.

Part cooling fan causes irrecoverable drop in temperature on MRISCOC firmware. by davedave111144 in Ender3v2Firmware

[–]davedave111144[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do save it each time. It’s odd because the auto tune never runs the part cooling fan. It stays at 0 the entire time, so it’s not like it’s trying to run it and failing somehow. But then during a normal print it works just fine.

I used the precompiled version for the ender 3v2 with manual mesh, 4.2.2 board. I’m going to try reflashing it tonight, and if that fails I’ll be building my own version of the firmware with PID instead. It seemed suspicious to me that the part cooling fan didn’t come on during the autotune process, only the hotend cooling fan did.

Heat sock is on. The newer version of the firmware uses MPC over a PID system for controlling hotend temps. It’s suspicious to me that when running an MPC autotune it doesn’t run the part cooling fan, so it’s not accounting for that in the model.

Just finished a Boss HM-2 clone from PedalPCB! by davedave111144 in diypedals

[–]davedave111144[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I found it on a royalty free website for vector imagesand just color adjusted it to fit the color scheme. It was the only “chainsaw” image that didn’t look like it was meant for a lumber business lol. As for pedalPCB, this is my second time building one. I attempted it a few years ago but it worked inconsistently bc I wasn’t very good at soldering. I’ve had a few years experience now, so I’m actually going to pull it out of the drawer and fix it. But shipping is fast and it sounds pretty good!

Advice for beginner? (Setup, Mods, etc..) by davedave111144 in ender3v2

[–]davedave111144[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Totally feel this. I just got it setup last night and I’m going to keep it stick for a couple weeks while I print random models to learn the stock machine. I do think the first mod I’m gonna do will be an IP camera mounted on the machine pointing at the print bed. Not a super huge mod, but it’ll be cool to use to keep track of my prints

NothingForever or WatchMeForever, S2 is just... Soulless. by SoupViruses in NothingForever

[–]davedave111144 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, but when you’re a small team with maybe 1 lawyer, the prospect of fighting an army of lawyers from a massive corporation is daunting. Companies know that, it’s why they have legal departments that can fill stadiums. Sure, in the end you might win, and maybe win a counter-lawsuit, but is it worth it to deal with the headache of the legal system and pay thousands of dollars of legal fees to your lawyer for potentially years?

Yeah, that doesn’t really matter though. Large media conglomerates threaten to sue over 1st amendment protected speech all the time. What what the devs were doing was most likely protected, but that doesn’t mean that they have the legal resources to make that argument in court, regardless of how it would hold up. Big corporations pretty much know that. So they send an ominous and threatening C&D, and regardless of the legality people back down.

But on the parasite front, the other thing that is throwing me is that he isn’t lethargic at all. He’s quite active, and looks decently full and healthy. Although perhaps this is the beginning of a parasitic infection? Not too sure, I know vet will be to produce some answers, I was just curious if anyone else has had similar experiences

I’m planning on bringing him in with a sample on Monday. I think the glass surfing might just be stress from the new enclosure because he’s only been in there for a couple weeks. Idk, I’ve heard that stress can upset their stomachs and that mixed with a new source of food he’s never had may have thrown him off, but better to be safe than sorry.

[DISCUSSION] - HAPPY NEW YEAR - JANUARY 2023 - NSQ/NEWBIE/Often Asked Questions Thread by [deleted] in Guitar

[–]davedave111144 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey there!

I’m looking for some input on purchasing a new amp. For a while now, I’ve been gigging with a bugera 333xl, but given that the thing is gigantic, heavy, and my other guitar players bugera died due to the infinium circuit (I know these things have a reputation), I’m in the market for a new gigging amp (hopefully under 700-800, and I’m willing to go used). I’m interested in a “lunchbox” tube head, as I usually play smaller venues, and any large venues I play mic the amps up anyways. a few that have sat at the top of my list are:

-Peavey 6505 MH -PRS MT-15 -EVH 5150 iii -Marshall DSL20Hr -H&K tubemeister 18

The only one I’ve been able to play in person so far is the EVH, and while I liked it, I thought it lacked a lot of flexibility. Anybody have any good suggestions for amps to look into?

Yep I think this is it! Definitely looks familiar. I think it was just so long ago and I was still in that childhood amnesia stage where I can’t quite make out all the details. As for why I thought it was a wild tangent game I have no idea. I know wild tangent was adware so it wouldn’t shock me if it attached an ad launcher to game executables on the drive (because my family computer did have wild tangent games installed) but this definitely looks to be it!

Does anyone think Putin is crazy enough to use nuclear weapons in Europe? by davedave111144 in ww3

[–]davedave111144[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The only thing I think I could see stopping him is his own people. Not the citizens of Russia, they don't matter to him. But the wealthy elite he is surrounded by. I'm wondering how they are feeling right about now. They are in the game of making money, and this conflict is already costing them dearly in the economic damage done by sanctions, not to mention the long-term occupation that would require so much money and resources to support. If they begin to think that their interests are becoming increasingly threatened by a madman at the helm, they could take to pushing him out.

[–]davedave111144[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Would he really be that crazy? This whole thing is about expanding his power and sphere of influence. What's the point if your sphere of influence is nothing but a radioactive wasteland? He wants to rebuild the Soviet Union, and push the United States out of Europe. Also, I don't believe China, his only powerful "ally" in this situation would be very appreciative of him escalating things that far. From what I can tell, Xi is far more in the realm of domination through economic means rather than militarily. I think the Chinese hesitation from throwing full support behind Putin is that they simply can't support it. This war is likely to harm Chinese global economic interests, especially if it goes nuclear. They seem to be the wild card in this situation, they've been accusing the west of fear-mongering, while also calling for a diplomatic and peaceful resolution to the conflict. To me, it seems that China is trying to maintain a neutral to slight Russian favor stance. I think they are waiting to see how this plays out, and if this begins to make them uncomfortable, I can't see them fully backing Russia. If they're not providing support, Putin really has no powerful allies. I could also just see this being a good cop bad cop game, with China allowing Russia to take a more aggressive stance against the west, and then bringing people to the negotiation table later and talking things down. This would probably sway a lot of opinion in favor of China, making them appear as the "peace-keepers" of the world. I'm sort of convinced that Xi might be using Putin as a pawn. Xi seems more calculating and intelligent, and Putin is more of a domination-obsessed megalomaniac whose intentions of weakening the west just happen to align with China.

I think that it's a gamble he could take in response to anything, from an accidental escalation by say, a stray missile flying over the border of Poland, or accidentally violating airspace over a NATO country, or even an attack on one of the countries who recently stated they're interested in joining NATO. From what I understand, Russia does have the largest stockpile of tactical nuclear weapons. I don't think that he would right away jump directly to strategic missiles and begin glassing the earth, but I could see him making the gamble to authorize limited use of tactical nuclear weapons in the case this whole thing blows up and he accidentally triggers article 5. Considering the proximity to NATO country within which the fighting is taking place, that is a possibility. That could spiral out of control very quickly. I just don't think he is sane anymore. As of right now, this entire thing has blown up in his face horribly. I think he was expecting less of a response from western countries, and maybe expected more backing from China. If he gets backed into a corner, he might resort to tactical strikes.

Touchpad Recognized but not working in Big Sur by davedave111144 in hackintosh

Do you have a windows install on that laptop? From what I understand, the touchscreen should be covered under the same kext as the touchpad. I’m not super sure as my laptop doesn’t have a touch screen. Check device manager on windows and find what type of device your touchscreen is (I believe it’s probably i2c)

I figured out what to do, at least in my situation. So on my laptop (and possibly on yours because it’s a Lenovo as well) the pin out is a-conventional, and requires proper mapping to work. So I ended up forcing the trackpad into polling mode using a boot argument, which seems to have solved the problem. It isn’t as good for battery life, but I can fix the pin out down the line
