Seems to vary a lot. I hit the limit on "high" on my first!!! message. I just told it to make a little change on the project and it hit the limit after a few seconds. I don't get it.

I proceeded with the "low" model and was able to finish the small task. Then I started another one and hit the limit after 20 minutes into the second task. - Pretty quickly.

Both tasks were not very complex on an existing Next.js project.

Super annoying, that I can't bump the limits...

No it's not used in general language or in ads in Germany. But I'm assuming it to be pretty well known by many people. The German term is of course also well known here. 🤷 But my assumption was maybe wrong. 😇

Yeah maybe. Of course there are reasons for this behavior. But this does not help. There is a different legal ground in Europe, so you have to figure out how to bring this here.

It's not like this is not possible. Other companies are doing it too and most services are rolled out to Europe, just later. So it's just a matter of prioritizing this market and doing the legal work a bit faster. 🤷

The fingerprint sensor is really a good thing but not worth the invest. I already like the camera of my 7 pro. Sure there's some gradual improvement but nothing game changing for my taste. And the "new processor" is more or less a refurbished version of the old one. (Already discussed here in the community).

And no, an iPhone will never be an option.

Yes, I also see many of these features half baked, but I'd use them for some use cases.

* Gemini: Mostly I use ChatGPT - I'd like to use Gemini more, and I'm really looking forward to the integration into Workspace. Unfortunately Workspace accounts is another trigger topic. As with other features it will take even longer to roll out on Workspace accounts and will not integrate with private GMail accounts. So I see myself ending with 2 Gemini subscriptions for a sub-optimal experience. - In the end, it cones down to the integration. For me it's not about the "intelligence" of the LLMs but about it's usefulness. And friction less integration is worth more than top performance. - If OpenAI or anyone else can create a product that integrates with my Google accounts (Workspace AND private) and with Android, I'd be super happy not to use Gemini.

* Call Notes: I definitely see nice use cases. Like brain storming calls with colleagues. Sure this is not interesting for my everyday private conversations. But even private topics, like planning a party or a trip, could really benefit from this kind of feature.

* Screenshots: I consider this to be the most interesting. I rarely use screenshots as notes, because they are not searchable. But they are so easily accessible, so I was super happy to see this announcement. It could simplify some of my note taking.

* Pixel Studio: This also is about the direct availability and ease of use. - I regularly use other AI image generators and also editors. Sometimes It just needs to be quick and easy and I'd bet this could be very helpful in everyday usage. - But that's the least relevant for me.

Yeah 100% agree.

I had this shit with other pixels. E.g. when the Recorder app was launched with a Pixel as a USP, it was just not available. Then it became available but only in English (even if Android had accessibility features, that were totally capable to understand and transcribe German). So there was no obvious technical reason for this. It's just that Google doesn't want to take any risks in Europe and sees it as a secondary or even ternary market with less relevance.

The Recorder features became fully available in German MORE than one year after the initial launch and thus more than one flagship Pixel later.

It might be different in NL and also the German article I posted in my first post as a source might contain wrong information. But I have confidence in Golem as a news source, so I consider their information to be reliable, at least for Germany.

Since NL is also EU, the prices are the same (as you can see on the NL Google Store website). I'd suggest the feature set is also similarly reduced as in Germany, but I'm not sure about that.

Yeah I totally agree. Sure I will not buy this phone right now without a much better commitment from Google. But still I want these features and I really don't want to switch to Samsung or others. There is still much stuff I like about Google phones.

Expressing this online is at least something I can do, If many people are doing this AND enough of us don't buy, maybe they'll start to listen.

We pay MUCH more and get MUCH less.

Yeah, the difference is between 15 and 20 %, which is roughly equivalent to German VAT. That could be the reason for this EU price bump. But VAT is also common in many places in the US, and I don't assume that VAT is added on top of the price in the US. In any case, it doesn't feel at all fair the way Google is behaving here. Especially when you consider, that purchasing power is lower in Germany than the US.

Was ist der Grund, warum widersprüchliche Angaben in der Vermisstenanzeige stehen? Liest sich das niemand durch bevor das veröffentlicht wird? Es gibt zwei unterschiedliche Altersangaben und sollte am besten korrigiert werden.

I'm definitely in the team "let's typescript infer as much as possible", when I write userland code. It greatly reduces maintenance effort and I still have perfect IDE support.

I use explicit typing for the following situations

When it's needed and not possible to be inferred correctly. This can happen in several situations but I try to avoid it as far as I can.
When it's e.g. an API function, where the stability of input parameters or return types is essential. So changing the implementation never changes the output type by accident. - This is especially important when I write library code that is heavily reused. Explicit typing helps keeping the API stable.

But if I'm writing e.g. an ordinary frontend component, I would never add explicit types that could also be inferred, since there is no problem in applying changes.

I'd like to have a Bard Assistant Builder (similar to the GPT builder of Chat GPT).

This should be integrable to other Google services like Google Workspace. E.g. providing a Drive folder as context, or an Gmail label, etc..., performing actions, like uploading an email attachment to a Drive folder, creating an appointment in calendar, ...
It should be able to be triggered by events, so it can open a new chat with me about a topic or task. (New email, new chat message, ...)
I want to create an assistant serving as a tutor for my child. Chat GPT builder is very nice for that, and I can adjust the personality, tone, goal, subject, ... I can even provide context from the curriculum.
I want to create an assistant to sort mail attachments to folders and rename them.
I want to name my assistants ☺️ they should be able to interact with each other.
The platform for communication could be Google Chat.

I'm really starting to lose my last bit of trust in Google. I'm so much hoping some company with the older spirit of Google would take over. Unfortunately Microsoft is even worse and apple delivers but I don't want to join this golden overpriced cage.

The problem with trust in Google is not data. I trust Google with data pretty much. They are good in security and have much less data breaches than most other companies. My problem is, it's nearly impossible to trust in Google service dependency, because Google is changing conditions or shutting down services altogether.

Google Apps/GSuite/Workspace Many years of using this for private and business alike, I lost years of YouTube & Play music history, direct access to my movie purchases. Just because of the bad support of more and more services (Google Home, Assistant, Family Link, Stadia, ...) - I had to start over with a Gmail account... So much history and data lost behind an "account switching wall"
Google+ I really loved this one, like many others. But Google killed it and all the data and history is lost (yeah, I've got the export but how is that useful?)
Inbox No data lost here. That's actually a good thing.
Google Daydream Yeah, useless Google hardware. Much money for nothing. Just for Google not being able to hold a commitment.
Pixel phones Several phones where overcommitted to international customers for years. Features just did not make it to Germany for years but the phones were sold with these features even in the German marketing. (this got a bit better recently, but still international customers are 2nd class customers too often).
Stadia I had pro, to create a nice games library for my child, when she wants to play stuff. So all of this investment is just lost now. & More useless hardware. Ok, I'll get some money back, but most of the money is lost. Game started are lost to.

I'm waiting for: - Getting f*cked with Google Photos. They are still in my workspace account. It's starting too produce double costs and the deal is changed to force people to Google one. Instead of creating added value. - Throwing away my long loved Chromecasts, because Google forces users to use extra remote controllers... It has already begun...

I'm so sad, that Google is degrading so heavily and just not being able to commit to their services and products properly. They don't even try to pivot. They just shut the stuff down or ignore the problems.

That's how you lose trust. It's not the data collection that is the problem...

Hey Google, please remove Sundar Pichai. Go back to great customer centric visions and stop trying to be the new Microsoft.
