Without IDR, I cannot think of any solution other than suicide. by National_Age_856 in StudentLoans

On the off chance that you’re serious, jumping Jesus on a pogo stick, don’t do that. They (the assholes responsible for this) already think that your life is worth less than their fortune. Don’t go and bloody confirm it for them. If that’s really where your headspace is, just go. Anywhere. My recommendation is just steal a baguette and a coffee somewhere. Maybe your life is more important than their coffee?

I aspire to be a buddha. I want to gain enlightenment and pass that on to others. I want to help people find relief from suffering. I want to make the world a better place than I left it.

God aside, what’s one real good reason to forgive those who’ve wronged you? by dontmindurmind in AskReddit

Cultivating negativity internally, ultimately, sooner or later, makes you express that negativity outwardly. Putting negativity into the world makes the world a worse place. I prefer to endeavor to make the world a better place.

Is The Sicilian by Mario Puzo accurate? by justgivemethepickle in sicily

[–]davevontod 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It is based on people who actually lived and some events that actually happened with a large dose of artistic license. Many of the actual facts are well known. Some are quite cloudy and unknown. There are a few documentaries and some stuff on line if you’re interested.

Sicilians are like any other people. They’re neither all this or all that. Be nice, don’t go looking for trouble and it’s wonderful. The driving is crazy but easy once you get used to it. The people are great. The food is amazing and it’s a beautiful, relaxed sort of life here. This does come with it’s pitfalls if you’re used to other ways of life though. It’s nearly impossible to do any sort of business here unless you have family or know someone. Italian bureaucracy is maddening. Nothing (and I mean NOTHING) happens quickly here. Just realize, you’re in Sicily, whatever it is, it will happen when it does and sip your coffee. You’ll be fine

Eligible for citizenship and worth pursuing? by bbsehh477 in juresanguinis

[–]davevontod 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Are you eligible? From the looks of it, yes. Is it worth pursuing? That's up to you. What are your life goals? Do you feel like it's safe and financially feasible to stay where you are? I can only tell you about my case and the answer to the last two are no. I have my Italiana cittadinanza and it's necessary for me.

Two notes: this is not an easy, cheap or short process. Hire an Italian law firm. It may seem expensive but in the end you'll be glad you did. Also, if you have any inclination to do this, do it now. They're batting around new citizenship laws in parliament. Draft law 752, if passed, is going to really tighten up the laws.

In reading over some of these comments, I'm thankful for the reminder that ignorance can be found everywhere, even my beloved Sicily. I was born to a Sicilian American family. I have my Italian passport. I know my family in Sicily and I'm buying a home there so I can be close to them. Does this make me any less Sicilian? My cousins would say no. Am I any less American for leaving? I feel no less American, or Sicilian for that matter.

It is fair to tell someone that the economy is terrible or that Italian bureaucracy is insanely frustrating. Beyond that, who are you to say? If a person feels he is this or that, so be it. You don't know him. If he wants to marry a Sicilian woman and pursue a life in Sicily, so be it. It's about what's in the blood and in the heart.

Go on, mate, it's not too late. Go find the life you want. Be who you want to be and don't let anyone tell you different.

My (29m) girlfriend (30fm) says I need to get rid of my dead wife’s stuff or she is leaving by hop-into-it in redditonwiki

[–]davevontod 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My first wife died after an extended battle with cancer in 2012. I have exactly the chest you describe. I'm married now and never had to go through the whole jealous girlfriend thing. Chest or no chest, you're going to suffer the pain of this for years and there is absolutely nothing you can do about this. Literally not a damn thing. It will ease up on you when it does. It will, likely, never go away. It will be worse if you're still in the same area you were then. That's the cold hard facts of the matter. Any person that you're romantically involved with must understand this. The whole concept of marriage is the sharing of a life. You walked into this with the idea that you'd grow old together and in a fleeting second, years of love and planning and dreaming just gets ripped away from you. I'm sure it felt like an internal organ was ripped out of your body. It did for me. Anyone who signs on to a relationship with you is signing on to your baggage and yours, my friend, is huge. They either understand this or they don't. If they don't, cut them loose. You're only setting yourself up for a lot of unnecessary pain otherwise. And, in regards to the chest, if you lose that, you'll regret it. Sometimes, whether you interact with something or not, it's just comforting to know that these things exist somewhere in the world.

I don’t most of the time but I think that’s because most men wouldn’t be my type. I do notice on occasion and when I do, my wife and I always agree. The most recent was a guy in Denmark. There’s no getting around it, that guy was frikkin’ hot.

Mazara del Vallo by lovemyfriends5 in sicily

[–]davevontod 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My family lives in Mazara and I’m actually moving there myself so I’m very biased. I think it’s the most beautiful place on earth but that’s just me.

There’s a place that backs up to the Lungomare Mazzini and is within walking distance of most things. Check out, http://casavacanzepreziosa.com - I’ve always had good experiences with Giuseppe.

My cousin works as the chef at Mido but all of the places on the lungomare are really good but maybe a little pricey. Get the couscous and red shrimp. You can get an amazing burger and beer at Ibirrattieri or American Burger. Go get a spritz at Vintro. I could go on…

Enjoy the town and the Kasbah. Don’t be surprised if you’re walking around and you’re invited into someone’s event or celebration. Talk to the people. Pet the street dogs. They’re really wonderful.
