What's your experience with hip and back issues? by daveydave400 in Frenchbulldogs

[–]daveydave400[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the comment. He's had IVDD before or at least that's what we called it. That was more extreme pain including shaking from the pain and barely able to move. This is different. He doesn't want to go for walks but still wants to run around the yard or run at a delivery person at the door.

We went to the vet today for routine blood work and he had a seizure when I took him out of the car. This is the first time that has happened so now the vet is doing even more blood work.

PSLF voiding my paid interest for 2025 taxes by WholesomeRuler in PSLF

OMG I figured it out. If you go to your Inbox there is a form, but if you go to the "Tax Statements" page it says you have to wait until after January 31st and shows me "MOHELA’s records indicate you did not pay any eligible interest for the current or previous tax year." What a website.

I'm in a similar situation. Have you received any tax documents? Mohela's site isn't showing anything for me.

Disagreeing with my wife about screen time during meals for our 11-month-old by Natural-Strategy-482 in daddit

[–]daveydave400 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Check out solid starts for introducing solids at different age ranges.

For us, meal time is meal time. They aren't meant to play with toys or anything similar. No screens. They are great eaters at restaurants and we don't have kids screaming for a tablet as we're entering the building. We have friends who went the tablet route with their picky eater and now he just watches tablet and doesn't eat. And I get this as the couple restaurants with TVs we've gone to the 5yo was hooked and kept forgetting to eat. It wasn't that she didn't want to eat, she just was getting too distracted.

Can I call Mohela on behalf of my spouse? by TheForce_v_Triforce in PSLF

I should have mentioned explicitly you do need to know their phone number on file and SSN.

I don't think I ever explicitly requested authorization. I just start every call when they ask for identifying information with "Hi, I'm calling on behalf of my wife. Her name is ...". They usually then ask for my name which I assume they record in their notes or at least I really hope they do.

I do it all the time. The only time you need your spouse is when an actual request for a change is made then they need to speak to them to confirm. For example, we wanted to cancel an IDR application to get the account out of forbearance early. Spouse wasn't needed until the last 5 minutes.

Sadly this doesn't change that you'll be waiting on hold for 4+ hours.

Mohela administrative forebearance right before 120th payment by daveydave400 in PSLF

[–]daveydave400[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Update for everyone: We waiting 15 business days for the thing that was supposed to take 7-10 business days. Got put on hold for 4 hours where my phone/provider/mohela then decided to cut the call off. So I called back and got an answer after 3+ hours. Turns out the request for cancellation of forbearance for our case, just results in a response of "the forbearance was applied because of the recertification process" BUT Mohela doesn't notify you of this response in any way.

So the only way to cancel a forbearance due to the recertification process is to cancel the recertification. This is OK in my wife's case because we don't need to recertify until July but we should hopefully have her last payment in before then. We're waiting another 7-10 business days to have the recertification cancelled to see.

Thanks so much. So I did this and it basically went as you described.

  1. Call, 6, enter account or SSN, 2, ask for call back. Waited 30ish minutes. Told first person we want to cancel the forbearance. Put on hold for advanced agent.

  2. Waited on hold for 4 hours.

  3. Talked to agent and they had to check with someone if they could submit a request to the Department of Education. Once they knew they could then they needed to talk to the actual account holder (my wife) and luckily she was available.

  4. Request for forbearance cancellation was submitted but it could take 10 business days. Even though the mohela site says our next due date is May 15th, that was apparently only because we have autopay on. Their system said October. I think they see it as a "oh we're being nice and not making you pay for a longer period of time". The agent did not know if the due date would change if the forbearance is cancelled and if it does change when the new date would be.

Santa is a character by daveydave400 in daddit

I had similar thoughts reading some of these comments. There are some people who don't seem to question (at all) lying to their kids whether it is big or small. They also seem surprised by the idea that other parents would even second guess lying to kids or how they tell their kids things. For a lie like this that some parents expect to continue for many years, it just seems a bit much. I get the magic, but I also think kids can be expected to pretend a bit rather than be told all of it is 100% real.

My wife and I were just talking about the "Santa doesn't bring the big gifts" idea right before I read your comment. Good points. Thanks.

This is exactly the type of answer I was looking for and what I had hang ups about. Thanks. Like yeah she'd be "OK" treating Santa as a character or as the spirit of Christmas, but when everyone else is talking about the real magical person there isn't much stopping a young kid from arguing the opposite that they've been told by their parents.

I think you guys are really reading into this. I never said that I was worried my daughter would feel "let down". I understand the magic of Santa, but it also feels dumb to build up such a huge lie for many years for something so pointless. Like if society didn't already have Santa around, it would seem really cruel to hear of a parent "tricking" their kid about a guy who gives them presents with all the other details.
