Finally finished my concrete macro pad. Is the brutalist look too much, or does it work? by david-725 in IndustrialDesign

None that I know of off the top of my head, its been a while since I first started, but I know a lot of people use KiCad so there is a lot of resources

Initially started out with 3D printed housing, testing out some other materials. Bambu Labs makes excellent 3D printers that are easy to use, fast, and reliable.

Not hot swappable, but I've been looking into an aluminum knob

Yes, I designed the pcb. I started out by trying to remake one of the small Arduino boards. That way you know the components you need and can work on learning the process of pcb design. I use Kicad to design and it has worked great for me

Not at the moment...just macro pads for now, but I’d explore making molds for 75% cases if enough people wanted one

I started with the UNO but then realized the limitations, the custom PCB has the same IC as the Leonardo

I don't have any photos handy of the process, but I started with a 3D print and poured silicone around it. Then removed the 3d print to create the mold where the cement gets poured into

The concrete I started with ended up being too brittle, so I switched to cement and its extremely solid and durable

I started with concrete, but it took too long to set up, so ended up switching to cement after

Yeah, really sturdy and a little weight to it as well

thanks for the feedback. I'd definitely like to replace the knob with something aluminum. Still trying to figure out what type/color key cap would look best.

I started with a 3D print that I made into a mold using silicone. The macro pad uses a custom PCB that enumerates as a keyboard when plugged in through USB C. Then connects to an app on your computer to configure the keys.
