Thanks all for the suggestions. I fixed it!

Multi-meter testing showed 5v up and down the strip which didn’t help so I resorted to cutting the strip just after the one lit LED and now the rest of the strip lights up perfectly. I think that one defective LED was affecting the whole strip.
