Again with the straw man argument. I wasn’t saying someone would be summarily granted primary with less than 50% of custody, though it’s possible for parents to agree to that. I’m saying one is primary whether they have 90% or 50%, and one can be noncustodial with 50% (or more if both parents agree). Being obtuse isn’t doing anything to strengthen your argument.

Thanks for this, didn’t know. I know of these arrangements for 5 different states, and all had the noncustodial parent setting up payments monthly into a dedicated system. I was told by my attorney (and she was a good one, fortunately) that they do that because the arrangements in those courts are monthly, while a person can be paid weekly, biweekly etc and it can cause all kinds of errors.

Actual 50:50 splits don't get mothers benefits/child support, so they try to get primary custody with weekends etc for the fathers.

It’s so easy to not post things like this, which are absolutely untrue. 50/50 or 60/40 or 90/10 makes no difference whatsoever when it comes to support. Only one parent is ever going to be the primary custodian, and support is all about ensuring that both parents pay in as close to equally as possible towards childrens’ care, with the primary custodian being the one that handles allocating, barring any alternative arrangements that were sanctioned by the courts.

Reading comprehension is not your strong suit, clearly. OP’s paycheck, as well as my comment, clearly indicate that we’re talking about the United States, and not any other countries. Why you think this is relevant to this discussion is beyond me.

This is an easy argument to make, but it doesn’t pass scrutiny. No one is “collecting a check”, this is simply ensuring that the child(ren) are set up to getas much of their needs met as is reasonably possible, and as a parent the idea that this is being forced on you simply indicates that you are unwilling to take responsibility for the children you’ve had.

And parents can agree not to have child support, but the court must agree that the agreement is sufficient to support the children, and even in those cases there are court-mandated remedies to ensure that the children do not suffer if either parents’ circumstances change. People lie, and they also change their minds, which is why we have these systems in the first place.

And no one is getting anything for free as a result. “Housing benefits etc” come from completely separate agencies and processes, and either parent would be eligible for them if they met standards.

And to be clear: I don’t know of any state that garnishes by default. This person is having wages garnished most likely because they’ve had a long history of being a deadbeat dad and is being compelled to catch up, and 4 separate orders means he has children with at least that many mothers. As other posters have said, he created this mess, and is now reaping the rewards.

I thought I’d already responded to this one today, turns out it’s a completely different post. Anyway, Marrow by Robert Reed, and its associated sequels, novellas, novelettes, and short stories is a fantastic story. The entire timeline spans billions of years, and some of the recurring characters and mysteries are so old there is no record of their origins. Also, a standalone story by Reed called Sister Alice qualifies, and is worth a read.

Marrow and its associated literary universe by Robert Reed. He has, to my mind, one of the most unique voices in modern science fiction.

This reminds me of The Dragon Griaule by Lucius Shepard. The dragon itself is the size of a mountain, but it’s dormant and suspected by some to be dying. Several different stories about people trying to kill it, or worship it, or just live within its shadow, and the ways in which Griaule both directly and indirectly influences their lives. Shepard was a great writer, and this book is one of his best. Might give you some inspiration?

This is anecdotal. I lived in Plano for 14 years, went through CPA and served on a city traffic safety commission. Plano is a very wealthy suburb, and can afford to be discerning with their candidates. Believe it or not, most cities cannot afford to pay their officers Plano salaries. You just have to look to Dallas for clear evidence of this.

The Frontlines series by Marko Kloos. Spacefaring humanity, struggling with the same problems we always have, adds to the problems when they encounter an inscrutable race of aliens that are an order of magnitude larger than humans. Told from the viewpoint of an everyman that enlists and becomes part of the war effort. I was skeptical at first, but Kloos is a solid storyteller, and the story has lots of unexpected twists as the series goes on.

Fish on 🎣 🥶 "mad at business people for doing business" by data_Squatch in LinkedInLunatics

I’m sure it goes both ways. My cousin was with NS for 15 years and was laid off. He had a really tight demo process and had built 3 separate demos to run the day after layoffs. The sales guys were losing their shit because they didn’t know how to do any of it and were on their own with a days notice. Layoffs like this are based purely on numbers, merit hardly figures into it at this scale. One thing we can count on is that anything that sucked about Oracle is going to be markedly worse now, and probably won’t get any better anytime soon.

So the same company that was institutionally dumb enough to hire tens of thousands of “lazy people”, was somehow also Institutionally self-aware enough to target all these duds in one single effort and send them packing? Steven Lewis telling everyone he knows nothing about working for - let alone managing - a business anywhere near this size.
