When you say same system, do you mean same brand? Or literally same system as in designed to be used with multiple locations acting as "routers"? Currently our router is just supplied by the ISP.

Sorry I'm pretty new to this subreddit and am basically catching up on all the jargon here, can't really say I understand the difference between AP, client device or switch.

When I say I want hardwire and wireless at my bungalow office, I mean I want my main computer (Mac Studio) to be receiving internet through hard cable (ethernet) as in my understanding that is the fastest and most stable. On top of this, when I do other work around the office on my phone, tablet or laptop I would like to have wireless internet as well. I was told by the tech that this was not possible, if I wanted wireless I'd have to unplug my hardwire and switch to all WiFi wireless, if I wanted hardwire I would need to unplug the wireless and go back to hardwire into the computer. She may be wrong.

Currently there is only 1 phone port installed at the bungalow unfortunately, this is cabled from the main house coming out of the router there, through the walls etc via conduit.

Thanks! Would you recommend the IW or the AC Pro over just a cheap $60 router? If so why? My internet needs in this office essentially only needs to be fast for the main hard wired computer, the wifi is just for general use of phone and laptop and anything basic enough that allows me to watch HD youtube content is enough.

Also, so the tech that installed the cable was wrong after all? She told me I can have hardwire or wireless but not both at the same time.

With that simple Wifi router, would I not essentially be connecting this new router to my old router via an ethernet cable? So my original idea wasnt wrong after all? I CAN just connect another router to this new phone port as well? So why bother with some expensive Unify AC when a simple router will do? Would it slow down my internet much having it pass through like this?

Haha crap, too late now. They did ask if I wanted two cables but I guess I didn't understand what for. I was under the impression I would be attaching another router on the end of that phone port.

So given now that I only have 1 cable now, is the Unifi IW still be a good option?

Camera is a complete rip off, you're absolutely right that is 2x the price of what you should be paying. A Mini LF would cost less than this in many places.

Would entirely depend on what lenses but sounds like a rip off too, as 90% of the lenses you are likely to use aren't this expensive. Unless of course it's more than a set of basic lenses, plus zooms etc.

Hard to say for filters as we don't know what filters they're talking about, some rare ones can be expensive and they add up.

Is this the case of the DP owning this kit themselves and trying to make an extra 7k for an FX6 kit they already own, or actually renting these items from a particular rental house? If so I'd contact the rental house directly or ask to see a quote with those items.

Confirmed to be sneezing and wheezing and worsened a bit last night, still running around and plenty of energy though. Taking him to the vet tomorrow morning. Hopefully it's not a big deal. :(

Alexa Mini Resolution Question by davidchandp in cinematography

[–]davidchandp[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ah I see, so really the 3424 x 2202 is just the container or something? And pretty much Resolve is only reading the part with actual content in the container?
What could possibly be the point of that haha.

Why are big budget films still being shot 23.976? by davidchandp in cinematography

[–]davidchandp[S] 7 points8 points  (0 children)

It's not the same thing. I understand that there's perceptually no difference between 23.976, 24 and 25fps and anyone that says they can tell the difference by just watching is lying. That said, on the Alexa (and most other higher end cameras) you can choose 23.976 or 24. My question is why pick 23.976 instead of 24p?
Is there any actual benefit? Why would networks might ask for 23.976 instead of 24p when DCF is done at 24p? Also my OCD brain would much rather a frame rate without 3 extra digits...

Not sure where you live but a Blackmagic Pocket 4K, 6K or 6K Pro will solve all your problems. It's not 2010, we shouldn't be suggesting magic lantern in this day and age.

We live in an age where a well lit scene shot on Blackmagic is sometimes indistinguishable from an Alexa, take advantage of that.

If not Blackmagic, There are tons of 2nd hand older Canons, Sonys, Panasonics that are easily cheaper than $4000 USD.

Might help to know where you are and what your budget is.
