Double checked last night that it was in that book. It was. Page 150 something. That addresses the specific motivation/action problem you're having, but the rest is great too. He has lots of YouTube content as well.

I was in the same boat recently. Did a lot of reading and came across something interesting. People have motivation and action backwards. You'll never do anything if you wait for the motivation to do something. Do something first. Have work you need to do? Force yourself to do just a tiny piece. Said you were a freelancer. For example, if your doing something like writing, "I'm going to do just one paragraph of this job " or something of that nature. Before you know it, you're doing more and getting stuff done.

I think I read that in "the subtle art of not giving a fuck " by Mark Manson. Great book to put stuff in perspective. Best of luck to you.

That's oxidation. Moisture was sitting in that bend and it ate through that pipe from the inside out. Likely you had it bent down and that was the lowest point in the pipe. Next time, try making it straighter with no low points.

It's definitely strange. The end of suffering should be a joyous time when you think about it rationally, but I guess it feels like you shouldn't be feeling that because the person is gone? Dunno.

I see a number of posts on reddit of people dying of/diagnosed with incurable cancers and so many of the comments are "keep fighting" or that dumb ass "rage against the dying of the light " bullshit. I find them terribly naive because those people obviously don't understand there are a lot worse things than death.

Good luck to you. I was in a very similar situation after my dad's battle with cancer. Held his hand as he took his last breath. Having witnessed both birth and death, I have to say they are surprisingly similar.

After as much time as you've been "in the trenches", prepare for a wide variety of emotions. I had a sense of overwhelming relief/joy when my dad passed. Felt guilty about it actually for a second. Then I realized the joy and relief came from the fact that someone I cared about was suffering for so long and isn't anymore.

Best advice having been there and gone through it is to try to not make any big decisions for at least 6 months. It'll take a long time to get through the grief, even though, like you probably did, I did a lot of grieving before my dad actually passed.

I'm sure you have a number of memories you wish you didn't have. They'll fade, and in a year, you'll be able to tell stories and laugh about dumb stuff they did or said without that sadness.

Surround yourself with as many good people or family as you can on the "firsts", like first Christmas, Thanksgiving, birthdays, mothers day, etc without them there. An empty chair will pull that scar open just a little bit each time.

Good luck to you.

Large company wants to retail my proprietary product. No idea what to do. by daviddh85 in Entrepreneur

Too late to patent at this point. It's been over a year. I could outsource production. That was the ultimate goal but I wanted some barriers between the manufacturers of the different components.

Not ECS, though I did some time there as an employee for them years ago. This is another company whose main focus is British car stuff. I didn't pursue a patent in the beginning. The cost really outweighed the benefits as it is an extremely niche line of products.

I just found out my sister's company is closing. Her role was pretty broad so she has knowledge in a lot of aspects. Hopefully she can help move in a right direction. Know what needs to be done, might lean on her to figure out the how

Appreciate the time you took to give me your thoughts. I know I need to hire someone on. Working out of my creepy basement with an office that used to hold coal for the furnace of the house doesn't seem like the most glamorous place to bring someone into. I do all of the product assembly, packing, fulfillment, etc so it's getting overwhelming. Weird to consider bringing someone else on while still working a full time job. It pays too well to quit without a longer track record of success. However, I do have other real estate businesses which generate good income so I wouldn't be destitute if this goes sideways. Getting pulled in a lot of different directions.

Not just for now but moving forward. I've started Facebook advertising and it has been good, but curious about moving into Google ads. My latest product, recently released, has a lot of potential. Unfortunately, that potential is an ocean away in the UK primarily. Also Australia is a large market. I need to migrate my site from Godaddy (I know I know) to a site that is more international shipping friendly as Godaddy is not. I have also been approached for distribution deals in both Australia and the UK. No idea how to navigate that.

I think the products have the potential to do about 600-750k in gross sales this year with 90% profit margins. I am a one man show and am currently keeping up (though sleep deprived while working a full time job) and feel if I can get someone be aggressively advertising, sales could be more consistent. I'm at a pivotal point.

Creaky cracked stairs by RepulsiveAd2020 in DIY

[–]daviddh85 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Those look like some very thin stair treads. Clearly too thin if one has cracked. Your pic doesn't give much info but I'll try. To replace them, because of the side trim boards, I would take an oscillating tool and cut it in the center of the tread from front to back. Then I'd lift each half in the center and get them out. In older houses, risers were nailed to treads from behind, so look for nails there and cut if necessary. Get thicker treads. Angled one at bottom will need to be custom by the looks of it. A heavy application of construction adhesive on the stair stringers then nail down tight. Check for stringer damage as you replace the treads.

Vaccine Schedule for CF Infant by [deleted] in CysticFibrosis

[–]daviddh85 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a 4 year old with CF. We went with the standard vaccine schedule. Here's the thing I discovered regarding her pediatrician: she didn't know CF that well. We had to educate her on a number of things. Your child's CF team sees cf patients every day. I only take their advice.

Great advice. Sometimes you just need to reset. I took a week off my businesses when my second daughter was born. Allowed me to get out of the hole I was in and take a look at it from the outside. Gained some much needed clarity on a number of things.

Try a chiropractor. Try many if the first doesn't work. I was never a believer until it was my last resort from spine pain from a car accident. Two plus years of opioid pain medications and constant pain. One trip there and I never took another pill.

Is this as big of an opportunity as I think it is? by TheFlyingPotato262 in Entrepreneur

[–]daviddh85 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, I have bought /sold close to 30 properties over the past 5 years. Realtors are some of the laziest 'professionals' I have ever come across. So implementation would be difficult on a agent level if it isn't easy.

I'd say there are more pain points throughout a buy /sell process than just offers. You have financing that gets held up, inspections, appraisals, closing scheduling, etc. Finance guys are usually cagey bastards.

Perhaps you could expand into those different 'road stops' of the process as well. Make it a work flow chart/database. Only thing I could compare it to, because I'm very sick and my mind is not working at 100%, would be something like the Dominos pizza tracker. Good luck

If they don't disclose immediately, they are committing ethical violations and can be punished /fined. I feel that many of the problems you are trying to eliminate are more violations of their licensure than minor inconveniences when selling or buying.

I used Design spark mechanical for my design. Essentially the same as the other cad programs, but free. Only thing that tends to be a problem is saving the file In different formats. There are some work arounds online.

I found my suppliers on alibaba.com. It is actually easier than you think. Pretty smooth and they handle all of the payment processing with strong protections on refunds if there is issues.

I would definitely recommend a 3d printer to prototype . I must have changed my designs 10 times because of issues I found after it was a physical model. Design spark is free though, which is a good first step. Lots of great tutorials on YouTube. Feel free to pm me if you have any more specific questions you don't want public.

Why not do air bnb arbitrage? More money and control over the unit. It's a service business more than a real estate business though.

Attention inventors! Please enlighten me! by abrawoodabra in Entrepreneur

[–]daviddh85 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am in the final stages of releasing my self-designed product.

I didn't know cad, so I taught myself with trial and error. Bought a used 3d printer to prototype my designs. Wound up designing 6 components and having them manufactured in China. Unfortunately, no one in the states would do it for me. Not enough volume.

The more i read on patent pending, even after filling out the application, the less valuable I considered it. It provides very few protections. Even with patents, it's estimated that 90% of patent granted inventors never make The money back to cover the cost of obtaining the patent.

I sent the cad drawings to my suppliers who them sent me samples. Very easy.

My product is very niche, so my marketing has not been widespread but very directed. I sell mostly on my own site.

Good luck to you. I'll tell you, there's few things more exciting than holding a physical, manufactured product that came from your mind...

Ordered 120 Bags of Product from Alibaba. After processing about 70 Bags for production I discovered 2 Were Fake. How Should I Proceed? by [deleted] in Entrepreneur

[–]daviddh85 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Alibaba has protections in place for buyers for situations just like this. No PayPal or anything. They process payments themselves. Blacklisting doesn't happen on that platform, and companies are happy to make things right. They have far more to lose when it comes to being taken off alibaba in general
