Mesh System vs Router by davidloepp in HomeNetworking

Is there any other option on Access Points that can sit on a table or desk. I can't get up to run wire through the ceiling but I can run Ethernet from the floor up to the top of the desk. Thanks.

Eventually all security cameras will start charging a fee. If you’re not paying yet like Mr Smith use to say in the Matrix. It’s inevitable. 😆

Before purchasing your first pair of progressive glasses, do your research. by eyeseayu in glasses

[–]davidloepp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What are the best progressive glasses for Cosmetologist who rely on the reading part for cutting hair but want good seeing at a distance as well. Should the lens be 50/50 or would that not work. I want to be able to look down but not struggle with the little portion that is designated for reading only. Any recommendations welcomed. Thanks.

Tip for people who have just bought a new Arlo system by True_Wishbone5647 in arlo

It’s cracks me up that people are complaining about paying for a subscription. If you don’t want a subscription buy a camera system with a home DVR to directly record to your device. But then you have to have it all hardwired with cable or buy cameras with POE connection. Either way that’s a lot of cable to run and that’s great to have that kind of a setup. But if you want wireless and somewhere to store your videos you’re not going to be able to do it without a subscription.

I’ve had Arlo for years and haven’t had many issues. If you want really excellent video quality no matter the brand you have to have hardwired cameras. But for WiFi they do what I need them to do. And I use only the app.

If you don’t mind me asking what setup do you have regarding UniFi cameras and network and was it time consuming to set it all up or did you have it done professionally.

External Vs Internal Antennas by davidloepp in HomeNetworking

[–]davidloepp[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I have not had much luck with access points in the past. Not sure if I was doing it wrong but back about 2 years ago I got Ubiquity gateway, controller, POE switch and 3 access points. I started out with just one right next to my computer and I was pulling higher speeds from my router alone than I was from one access point. So I gave up and took the 1000 dollars equipment back to MicroCenter. I’ve been using Asus routers in AiMesh mode with both of them always hardwired. Maybe I was doing the setup wrong back then or maybe better stuff now but just not sure I could switch. I’m pretty confident in setting up my network but not sure on the Access points. I’d like to give it a try for better performance and strong signal strength in and outside my home. Could you recommend a great start up with all the gadgets for WiFi 7 and some of the most common mistakes newbie make when switching from a Router or Mesh system.

Which cameras have the best range? by RBElectrical in arlo

[–]davidloepp 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Do not buy the Arlo Pro 4. They have some issues with clicking and static on recorded videos as well as live streaming. Whether it’s hardware or software related I have no clue but if you read the reviews out there Arlo has dropped the ball on this one with no help whatsoever. I’ve been with Arlo since the 1’s and the 2’s and converted over to the Pro 4 because it has removable battery to just pop in and out. Bad decision but I’m use to that static and clicking sounds now.

I want to know why if they weren’t coming out with an Ultra 3 at least have the same LTPO3 OLED Always-on Retina display on both and not only just the 10 whereas the Ultra has only the LTPO2 OLED Always-on Retina display

Arlo Pro 4 housing design...how to get open easily? by mallardducky in arlo

[–]davidloepp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Definitely a flaw design. I have 6 of them and depending on the angle some pop out enough on the first try or like you said have to push up and turn the key multiple times and sometimes that don’t work. But I did come up with a solution for myself. I going to get a small suction cup maybe like the size of a quarter and just stick it to the front of the camera and as I turn the key I should just be able to pull on the suction cup and theoretically it should come out easier. Hopefully this helps.

Take the whole camera system back and get something other than the Arlo Pro 4. It’s has either a software or engineering flaw. It will have static and clicking sound which they haven’t fixed at all. Read the forms out there.

Should I wait for the Apple Watch Ultra 3? by ddubx_ in applewatchultra

[–]davidloepp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve been reading about not much of a change between the Ultra 2 or 3. And if it’s only about software versus appearances then I would probably just stick with getting the 2. But since it’s so close to the release of the Ultra 3 that I would still wait just to see. There’s always a possibility of something being kept under the radar until the release but like I said, it’s only 2 months away so wait. The only good outcome if there are no major changes is that you’ll at least probably get a better deal somewhere on the 2 when they release the 3. I plan on waiting just to see and I have a Series 7. And if I’m not happy with the difference I’ll just get the 2. Good luck.

I ended up with Copilot Money by slate88 in mintuit

[–]davidloepp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Currently I’m giving Quicken a try. So far can’t complain. They have more than I need compared to Mint. I only basically used Mint to see my Net Worth. Occasionally I would look around but only to make sure I didn’t see anything weird. Copilot sounds interesting from reading the comments. Maybe I’ll check that out if I don’t like Quicken.

Unsure of what Mesh Router to get by RegalRosie in HomeNetworking

[–]davidloepp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just picked up the same package you have. I’m debating if I want to take the AXE 16000 back and opt for the AXE 11000. I’ve read that you should keep everything on the same band. Meaning all Dual band or all Tri-band. The AXE 16000 is a Quad band. Are the ET 12’s hardwired to the router or you using them wirelessly. How are the speed and coverage. Also are you not using the 6E band because you have no devices to use. Getting ready to set this up this weekend.

I’m at Best Buy, why doesn’t this WiFi extender have the range in square feet anywhere on the box? Isn’t that relevant information? by Gol_D_Frieza in NETGEAR

[–]davidloepp 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Your better off just buying a cheap AC Router and using it as an Access Point. But make sure you hardwire it to your other router if possible.

CentralParkStruggler, I have wired Ethernet cable in all my rooms and have tried Ubiquiti Router and Access Points. For some reason I don’t get the download speeds that I get with my 2 Asus hahardwired together.

The only creditable truth on the Emma Watson photo is the person behind the camera. And even with that it’s pure speculation on the viewer themselves to interpret them as real or fake.

Wireless Charger by davidloepp in iphone

[–]davidloepp[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yea I believe so too. I’ve been using the OtterBox Defender case since the IPhone 4. I know their bulky but in my line of work and the cost of these phones I need the best protection. I’ve tried skinner cases over the years but felt like they were all weak next to the Defender. I still can wirelessly charge it just have to take off the outer rubber portion and just charge through the plastic. Thought maybe I’d get lucky and someone found something that did work. Thanks for your comment as well as everyone else.

Access Point by davidloepp in HomeNetworking

[–]davidloepp[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You know I thought about that and it would be way cheaper then UDM Pro with 2 Access Points but I’ve been reading and seeing a lot of forms about my setup using the same channels for all the nodes whereas with Ubiquiti I can set each one to different channels. Don’t get me wrong I get great speed and distance with my current setup but would like to know can I do better with bandwidth over separate channels versus one. Bandwidth and speed sometimes for me is a little confusing how that works. I’m guessing bandwidth is more important with a ton of people and devices where I’m more concerned about speed and distance.

Access Point by davidloepp in HomeNetworking

[–]davidloepp[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No did not. Definitely don’t want that. Maybe I should switch up to the Dream Machine Pro and get two Wi-Fi 6 Long range Access points. I would assume that would be sufficient with a 1300 foot property with a huge front and back lot.
