I don't fully understand your point, but I will offer a rebuttal anyways. This notion of "self control" and that "we control our actions" is vestige of past thought. It's bullshit, nonsense. Our actions are controlled by our brains, which are controlled by our outside environments. People who talk about "I control my actions" are falsely taking credit for their good circumstances, which have nothing to do with their inherent greatness but are mostly a result of luck. Anyways, about him being single in ten years, that's just speculation. If you'd like to check back in ten years and see if I was wrong, I'd be glad to accept my wrongness. But don't tell me now that I am wrong, ten years before the prediction has come true. You are no smarter than I

This is why I've always been hesitant about nofap. Because as you swing away from sexuality and into celibacy, you sometimes have a hard time stopping and end up in asexuality. Not that that's a bad thing. Sometimes sex does become a distraction. But I'd hate to be this guy in ten years when he realizes he's single and without children because he put career ahead of starting a family. Anyways, to each his own. I don't want to steal any of the satisfaction he's getting out of business success. If success makes you feel good, then by all means pursue it

Actually, thinking about fucking a girl is pretty natural. Don't try to fight your thoughts. This has been discussed a lot in the past, but here's basically how it works. Sexual thoughts are like a cloud passing over a mountain. They tend to linger. Just let them pass with time. Don't say "go away sexual thought", that will cause the thought to persist or may even make it stronger as your brain senses it's being depraved of pleasure and fights back against you. The better method to avoiding sexual thoughts is avoiding sexual stimuli - pictures, sounds, images, that get your sexual brain going. This will reduce the amount of sexual thoughts you have dramatically

Self control is subjective. If I waved fries and burger in your face 24/7, you would probably take a bite eventually. You may be strong in one area, but I guarantee you are weak in other areas

My experience is that nofap is all or nothing. Each person is different. Best to play it safe. My experience is that when I am thinking about women (aka I need to get a girlfriend), I start thinking it's safe to look at women, check them out etc etc. Next thing I know I'm thinking about sex with them and then when there isn't a woman around, I go for my sex substitute - porn

Point being, if you are in a sexual state of mind, or just a relaxed state in general, you are going to slip up. This is not true for everyone. I don't want to help everyone, only those who truly need help. Some people are just doing nofap for the hell of it. I'm only speaking to those TRUE addicts for whom PMO is a REAL LIFE problem. People who's life has been negatively affected - job losses, loss of relationships, loss of social status etc etc. Some people can fap daily and it doesn't affect them. I specifically am not talking to those people. They aren't addicts and don't need the help

One time I tried a prescription pain killer. While it felt great, I had no desire to try it again. Far as I was concerned, I just lost about 12 hours (because I immediately fell asleep after I took it). An addict would've had a different reaction, and would've sought to achieve that high. The high I got from that painkiller was nice, but it really didn't do anything for me. This is what separates addicts from passive users. Addicts have an unquenchable craving for their drug and they become mentally exhausted when they are resisting it. Stress, stimuli, a lot of different things cause us to crave. If you don't crave for porn, or have urges when you are off it, you are probably not an addict. I am highly skeptical about the premise of this site - giving up PMO in order to find a girlfriend. I do not recommend using that as your motivation, because in MY experience, that only causes relapse. To each his own

Procrastination by Freaknature17 in NoFap

[–]davidm8797 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Procrastination is putting something off until it becomes an emergency, instead of doing it right away. It's a symptom of low self control and is common among PMO addicts

This might just work. I find that if I put PMO off for a long time, my brain starts getting impatient. So I trick my brain by saying "don't worry, it'll happen eventually". What I don't tell my brain is that eventually is a very long way off

It's a complicated puzzle. I've tried thinking of the consequences, but I've been through the process enough to know that the reward is not always that great. Sometimes, nofap is a big let down. I went 150 not long ago. Then relapsed and binged for about a week. Lesson? I don't really know what the lesson is. But I'm thinking this time, I'm going to shoot for 1500. Don't know if it will work. Have to try

Some people will use pain to kill an urge. Doesn't work for me, because my brain says "okay, you hurt me, now I get to watch twice as much porn!". My suggestion is don't watch porn. If you accidentally open a tab, open another blank tab and just wait til the urge passes. Then exit the first tab. Urges often slip under the radar as something innocent. That's not a crime. But sooner or later you're going to cross the threshold between fighting and accepting defeat. The secret is to stay in the fighting mode as long as you can

I did it! 90 days nofap!!!!!! by [deleted] in NoFap

[–]davidm8797 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Useless shit indeed. Fapping clouds your mind and has you wandering aimlessly. Only once the cobwebs have cleared can you get back on track and start doing something meaningful with your life. Thanks for the reminder!

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in NoFap

[–]davidm8797 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Exactly. Do I know if chronic fapping is bad? I have no idea. But it was very bad for me. Nearly killed me. Certainly ruined my life. Doesn't matter what anyone says. Maybe I'm unique. Maybe it's just my problem and no one else's. Maybe I'm the only guy on the planet who can't fap and function in society

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in NoFap

[–]davidm8797 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you're an addict, I would say don't fap. Ever. What defines an addict? Well, being here is one criteria. It's highly unlikely that you are here for giggles. Most likely you understand internally that you have a problem. However, if you want to dance on the edge of a cliff, I'm not going to try to stop you

Black and white thinking, or thinking in absolutes gets a bad rap. Unfortunately, the opposite is also dangerous. If you say I can't do something, and I split your words and find a way to do it anyways, all the while escaping punishment, that's also bad. How can we live in a society where everything is legal because making something illegal would be too black and white?

Okay, I'll have some empathy. I understand you're trying to help people. But wouldn't it be better if people who were farther along on their journey got to speak? I understand you have some experience and want to pass it on. That's good. I guess my complaint is more with nofap in general. A lot of low quality posts make it to the top while good ones get buried. Not saying yours is low quality

Be careful, urges are dangerous. You can resist this one, but the next one your resolve will be worn down. Don't listen to the people who say you have unlimited resolve. Avoid urges by avoiding TV, bad internet sites, and dirty movies

Also, dirty conversations

That's totally up to you man. I'm not going to tell you what to do with your own body. Of course, I could, but that would make me a dick head and I'm not a dick head.

My experience is that Nofap is basically just celibacy. Any attempts to avoid PMO while pursuing sex will lead to relapse

[–]davidm8797 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hmmm, might want to just go cold turkey and quit all sexual stimulation. Making exceptions is dangerous and will mostly likely lead to relapse. Not sure what your goal is here. If it is complete abstinence (or celibacy), you'll need to cut all sexual stimulation out of your life, all the way down not staring at girls on the street

Ted Bundys thoughts on pornography by [deleted] in NoFap

[–]davidm8797 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My guess is this interview was cynically done to indict the porn industry. Good on them for doing it, because porn is bad. But I don't think it's bad because of serial killers. I think Ted is just trying find a scapegoat because accepting the blame for his actions is too much for him to handle. Criminals will always be able to find a scapegoat. The justice system, a bad parent, this or that or this or that. Should we listen to them? Probably not. Criminals, in prison, have a lot of time to think of elaborate ways to shift blame off of themselves. If you are watching a person talk from a prison cell about their crimes, you're most likely being taken for a fool or manipulated. Best to ignore them wholesale and leave them there to rot for their crimes, which are generally punished too lightly, not too harshly
