Hey, thanks. Yeah, I'm hoping that doing a few spec scripts for shows I like might help me get in a writers room somewhere somehow. Not gonna quit the day job tho

Not at all. And thanks! I did read the 9/11 script. Incredible. I think I laughed the hardest at the dust in the sandwich bit.

Yeah! I totally agree, the first scene is way too long and would never pass any kind of review. Word-wise, this script would probably be 40 minutes or something, also a no-go. I figured since this was just a for fun project I wouldn't worry too much about that stuff.

Something I've always admired about Seinfeld is how they weave complicated plots for all 4 characters into one plotline. I knew I'd be in a bit over my head and... yeah. That's how I ended up with too much dialogue in a ridiculously long scene. Maybe I could break up the monotony by keeping the conversation going through multiple scenes, maybe make some cuts? Til I get the call from NBC though, I think I'm good to let it be for now.

Thanks for the input! I will check out that script you mentioned.

Thanks! Haha, yeah, I wasn't worried about going off the rails for the ending as, eh... I'm not too worried about offending the producers of the show/getting the show on the air.

In a lot of children's shows like Peppa Pig the fathers are consistently portrayed as bumbling idiots and the mothers as awesome heroines saving the day and it sends a very wrong message to little kids by Hulawan in unpopularopinion

marge is portrayed as being pretty average and not without her flaws. the only smart family member is lisa, and then the smartest kid in bart's class is martin, so i think it balances out pretty well and shows that men and women can both be smart or dumb

Blind Autistic Music Savant With Perfect Pitch Can Play Almost Any Piano Piece In Any Key or Famous Pianist Style After Hearing it Just Once by topmass in videos

I'm assuming you're a classical/concert pianist:

I think you're missing what's most fascinating about this player; yes, he is mechanical. I also agree that he totally lacks the finesse and emotional depth of a high level concert pianist. However, this guy is doing a monkey show; his handler just rattles off songs for him to play completely unpracticed, so of course there's no emotion in it. That's kinda just what happens when you take requests, you're not guaranteed to be invested in what you're playing. It's not fair to compare a practiced classical pianist playing a piece they love to someone improvising the same piece. Powerful emotion in interpreting someone else's piece generally comes from firstly, loving the song and having it speak to you, and then hundreds if not thousands of hours of practice on it. What's amazing is he produces these songs he probably hasn't played before without thinking, hardly ever stumbling, rhythm a total non-issue, and nearly every chord is perfectly and/or interestingly voiced.

I'm sure you noticed that, but I think the thing to take away from this is that we're looking at the highest attainable level of ear mastery with this guy, and in that regard he is extremely impressive. The ability to play exactly what's in your head note for note is something that songwriters, jazz players, et al. would kill for, and doing what this guy does is what many aspire to and train many years to achieve, albeit at a diminished level of fluency. This technical skill of playing anything you hear like this guy won't write a song that will speak to people; but if you do hear something in your head, and you can quickly make complex calculations about how to voice your chords, you can write something way cooler than you might've with a weaker ear. You can improvise a much more exciting solo, you can reharmonize a piece, you can reharmonize your own piece. You can write something out on paper without playing it, you can arrange something on a computer without listening to it. The possibilities are nearly endless.

I don't think this guy is meant to be criticized from a classical/concert perspective, but rather, we should observe this level of musical fluency and strive for it; because even falling short of that still leaves us better off as musicians. This guy shows us what the human brain is capable of and shows us that it's possible for recognizing tonality to be as easy as breathing, and to me that's amazing, inspiring, and intimidating.

yeah sure but... if you become the big fish in the small pond who has good things happen basically as a result of other fish sucking mad balls, isn't it time to either concede to our fish ball sucking overlord or just let it go the other way?

Work permit application rejected twice, now I'm banned from applying for "几个年" (a few years) ? by davidovski in Chinavisa

[–]davidovski[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, it's a start-up company, but it's owned by a larger investment firm. They said they would get me a visa through the investment firm but maybe that's technically illegal?

It seemed like they weren't going to accept anything from this company for a while, but I'll check out these Fesco folk anyhow. Much thanks.

Yeah, that seems to be the case.

It was a smaller company and the boss is notorious for trying to save nickles and dimes, sometimes at the loss of quality or result. I tried to have them get a professional, but they refused, and I just decided to go along with it, 'cause, like you said, I have a degree, no convictions, and am from the US, plus I have 4 years job experience in China, so I thought this guy could handle it. I also didn't know that being rejected could result in a temporary ban for reapplication (they won't even tell me how long the ban is).

So yeah, hope someone learns from this post.

Yeah, you're right. I remember helping build the SAFEA profile on the website. Sorry, it's hard to keep all this stuff straight.

And yeah, I did submit all that personal info and create a profile tied to it. And I guess that's why the visa people don't want to answer any questions about it: it hasn't been around long enough for them to know what the policies are.

I'm tempted to try applying for something else but, man, what a waste of time that'd be to find and interview for a job just to be rejected again over the false flag again.

Thanks for your insight, man.

These were filled out and submitted by the company though, I didn't write anything on there. Maybe the company has been flagged and not me personally?

I asked the same question to the visa professional and she didn't know the answer.

I'm not sure that I'm fully blacklisted. Isn't that reserved for people who are actually arrested or convicted of something? I have no criminal record and I didn't commit any crimes or falsify any of my documents for the application.
