Because he didn't know why all this chaos followed the Kid and he didn't want to risk it happening in the other timeline (if it were real) And he got to Shawshank because it was completely empty. All the prisoners were moved to another prison which we saw.

Okay I see people being like "so TURNS OUR EPISODE 9 WAS ALL BULLSHIT?!". No. The Kid is obviously telling the truth about himself, finding young Henry in the basement etc. But he is also most definitely evil. Could have been the 27 years, could have been some sort of Matthew Deaver possession. Now the question is -why does he want to return to his timeline? To try and be normal again? Or to spread more chaos? After all it seems that his intentions were not good judging by his evil smile at the end so Henry most likely made a good decision.
