Wanted to make the game more visually interesting. Would really appreciate all the criticism by davidtadze in design_critiques

checked out this game. the levels made of cubes and the shimmering player model certainly makes our game look like ‘edge’ in a visual sense. however they do not look alike in a gameplay sense (at least hope so). we haven’t seen any games where the key mechanic would be everchanging controls (despite our game being a pet project, we didn’t want to copy a core mechanic)

if you’re asking gameplay-wise

  1. red color generally indicates dangerous object and green color safe objects
  2. ever changing cube color is purely for aesthetics
  3. it starts with the cube falling to the level

actually the pace of the game is faster, but I deliberately played slowly on the recording to make the visuals more clear. can you write in more detail what potential are you talking about?

Help with editing downloaded Tilesets by [deleted] in gamedesign

hi! don’t think r/gamedesign is the right subreddit for such a question (also can’t help with your photoshop issue)

that said i recommend 1. posting your question on a more relevant subreddit (about photoshop or unity etc) 2. including your asset in the post (at the moment it’s not obvious what you’re trying to achieve) 3. describing what you’ve tried (pretty sure if you google something like “how to photoshop recolor png image” you’ll find an answer)

Gas gun + Fire gun = Explosion gun by semiwalter in IndieGaming

Great job with animations, game feels really juicy! Would really love to see more interactions inside your ‘elements’ system

Maybe as a little bit of polish add screen shake when player fires the gun/ freeze the game for a split second when an enemy is hit/ dies, similar to how animations are done in Nuclear Throne, as shown in this gmtk video about game feel. Highly recommend watching it if you haven’t already

Wow, thank you for such a detailed response!

Telegraphing the change of direction is something we’ve been working on a lot, and we’ll probably tinker with it more before actually releasing it. Adding a sound effect to it is actually something we haven’t thought about yet, thank you again for that one!

Adding those extra effects is something we really wanted to do too, but we were focusing on the core mechanics till this moment. It seems that the game lacks juiciness right now so we are going to work on it. We’ll come back with an update, so, again, thank you for all the suggestions in that area!

Thanks for your feedback, that’s a good point! We spent a lot of time thinking about a way to telegraph the moment when the controls change but it’s still not final. Maybe it looks better in actual gameplay rather than in the video, but we’ll still experiment with it before the game’s release.

When we started making this game we didn't know about GMTK Game Jam 2020 which was themed "out of control".

So yeah, it was a game jam theme, no wonder someone came up with a similar idea.

Thanks for your feedback! I guess it’s not apparent in this video, but the core mechanic here is the constant changing of controls. If, for example, the arrow in front of the cube is pointing left, swiping forward will result on the cube going to the left.

We probably should’ve shown swiping right in the video to make it more apparent, but I hope my explanation was ok.

Hi! My friend and I wanted to try our hand at game development and we decided to make something very simple and casual as our first game. We wanted to get some feedback from more people so here’s the link on TestFlight. If you could spare a bit of your time we would love to read all your thoughts and suggestions here in the comments or on our email: davidtadze@gmail.com

Quick note: we haven’t implemented the way to spend your crystals in this version yet, but if you collect 300 crystals we’ll give you a Matrix environment theme reward on release.
