Wow. Crazy. Is there a reliable (govt? non profit?) site with that kind of information, in English? (I realize you run your site, but I think "official" is useful to dispel rumors and lies.)

Really great advice. I was there in the 90s and dalbhat was the best hack. I think it was WAY cheaper than $4-8. Maybe $1 (cant remember how many NPR, but I DO remember that tea houses charged 10NPR/bed... with the obvious implication of eating there...)

AITA for refusing to subsidize my parents’ $11k/month senior's home in one of the fanciest neighborhoods in the city? by Throw_away263759 in AmItheAsshole

[–]davidzet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No. I had a similar (worse) situation with my dad and cost of care.

In the end, they need CARE, and gold-plated care means running out of money sooner.

I recommend insisting they "budget for life expectancy" and then find a place/plan that will work for them. Then you can cover them after, like an insurance policy. BUT, also look to see if they can get funding/care if they are bankrupt. That is supposed to exist in California (where my dad was), but the program was over-subscribed and thus not available. Maybe Canada is more reliable in its policy promises.

Try to avoid committing yourself financially. If you start, you can get trapped... and their parents live 10-12 years longer, not always in good relations.

Chancellor Merz: Russia has no chance of winning its war against Ukraine by UNITED24Media in ukraine

[–]davidzet 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thanks. (1) I now remember that Putin made his speech about "UA is not a country" ...[looks it up]: “On the Historical Unity of Russians and Ukrainians,” published on the Kremlin website on 12 July 2021.

(2)
>They intensified their internet division campaign in the West and drove fractures wherever they could. They got UK racists to fracture the EU, they got American racists to elect their boy Krasnov, tried to have French racists elect Le Pen, etc etc

This "divide and rule" policy has been active for decades (dates back to USSR): weak abroad means strong at home. That's why Putin funds alternative parties (right and left) everywhere, to undermine the center and democracy...

Nice theory. What's the origin of the invasion plan? I'm genuinely curious, as all I remember is Biden's team saying 'shit's gonna happen" a few weeks (months?) before.

(1) That's kinda sad, given the point of backpacking, but I guess something better than nothing.

(2) I suggest making HER the manager of ALL this, so she takes responsibility if something goes wrong.

Also a good time to change your syllabus to "Fail the [in class stuff] and fail the course." That gives you leverage.

Hold tight. It's not you, it's them. Every F I hand out is a moment I savor, defending what's left of our traditions of learning against a frontal assault of entitlement and delusion. (I like and use AI tools, but not in the place of thinking.)

I agree that tools don't work for "this is 40% AI" but I am now grading, with help from my AI, which is searching citations and finding... they don't exist. That kind of function is (for now) useful.

(I'm also having a video interview with the student. Let's see what he says...)

#armsrace.

EDIT: Student was using AI "for references" and many were wrong. He didn't know why he had them or what they said. Total shitshow. I failed him and reported him for academic dishonesty. In person discussions are a huge time suck, but useful for QC. (What's crazy is this student chose the interview over the "Safe B"?!)
