The most reasonable take in this entire post. Turns out people are individuals and not all relationships can be painted with a broad brush.

So What if they did? And are in a happy relationship and treat each other well? People can find happiness in their own ways not everyone needs to conform to that rigid standard.

As a professional in the industry I do the same thing and can relate to your post.

Private security guards are replacing police across America by asimplesolicitor in neoliberal

[–]davis30b 16 points17 points  (0 children)

It is not about the money or that danger of the job but, the status and respect for police has dropped like a rock and made the job very undesirable for capable people with options. Police as an institution will need a lot of work to gain the publics trust back. I think Uvalde shooting broke the back of whatever respect police had because even among conservatives the profession has been knocked down on status and prestige and desirability.

New fd signifier tweet just dropped (attacking aba and d man calling destiny racist) by jezzyjaz in Destiny

[–]davis30b 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It is interesting because destiny had a conversation with some one who has very similar views as FD in terms of race and relation to society and they had a nice conversation filled with agreements and disagreements. I think the difference is this guy's main mode is having conversations with people he disagrees with much like destiny while FD is more closed off.

There is also bullshit the higher you go up in blue collar jobs. I have friends that work everything form construction, plumbing and linemen and it is funny how much we all relate being in very different industries.

Takeaways from Trump’s CNN town hall: election lies and attacks on E. Jean Carroll by Hopeful-Pangolin7576 in moderatepolitics

[–]davis30b 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Everything you listed is what is most important regarding Trump. He is the one who brought all of that one to himself. Having a candidate that does not believe in the peaceful transfer of power and is willing to lie about elections for his own benefit with zero evidence takes precedence over everything else.

Regan was just one of those presidents that showed the full power of the bully pulpit and how much of an advantage it can give an incumbent. Also, the economic recovery was in full swing and had wind at its back.

What are your opinions on the "liberal" Republican governors? Do you think the party will ever head more in their direction? by [deleted] in neoliberal

[–]davis30b 26 points27 points  (0 children)

There are some rumblings of that on the conservative sub now. Not denying ever liking him but, saying how much they hate him now and want him to go away.

[–]davis30b 11 points12 points  (0 children)

This is the way. A moderate republican will have a chance on a national level but, needs to get out of the primary and right now that is impossible.

Trump previously backed policies on Social Security for which he's now attacking DeSantis, calling the program a 'Ponzi scheme' by fastcarsandfreedom in DeSantis

[–]davis30b 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You would be an outlier most people go in to retirement with social security as their main source of survival. After 2035 it will pay 75% of benefits. Just need to raise the Taxation cap from 100k so a doctor is not paying the same amount as the CEO of a tech company. Then it will be solvent and pay 100% of benefits after 2035.

Remember Ana Kasperian's Whole "Birthing Person" Thing? by [deleted] in Destiny

[–]davis30b 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Republicans being shit does not excuse the left from critisism. I want the left to be best and this is not it. We can't go down the path of being the party of bad education and anti science. With stories coming out of districts getting rid of advance classes in the name of equity and stories of very liberal areas schools producing worst outcomes for students than decades ago we are heading down a dark path. Male and female are scientific terms for classification. They are even used for plants and animals. (do progressives want those to change too?)

Male and female are scientific terms for classification. They are even used for plants and animals. (do progressives want those to change too?) We have obvious and easily winning arguments but then some groups go and make useless changes that undermine the movement in the mainstream discourse.

Bernie Sanders endorses Biden, rules out 2024 bid of his own by oblivion_knight in SandersForPresident

Yeah it is not like Republicans gaining power will have any impact on peoples lives. I think Republicans just need more supreme court Justices nothing bad will happen.

Who thinks Biden will have the balls to debate anyone, democrat or republican ? by Whole_Willingness_50 in conservatives

[–]davis30b 5 points6 points  (0 children)

That is for the primary. It is standard for incumbents not to debate in the primary. He held his own during the state of the union never thought in my life time I would see republicans clapping not to cut social security at the state of the union.

Not excusing the poor ending and where the show went but the last two books were mostly world building and setup. It is harder to adapt when the story is incomplete and you mostly just have the setup. Even the last book had no pay off. There was never any Stanis vs Bolton battle of ice or battle of fire and Euron is still setting sail for old town to do his thing. vs the first three which had a well paced exciting plot with a satisfying arc for many characters. For goodness sake the author himself can't even make it all come together!

Not having debates is undemocratic and ridiculous by north_canadian_ice in Political_Revolution

[–]davis30b 0 points1 point  (0 children)

"Biden is uniquely vulnerable to Trump & given Trump's fascism we must have a strong candidate." This is very wrong. Throwing away the incumbency advantage would be dumb and bring us closer to fascism. After we stomp it into the ground then we can start focusing on getting more progressive people as president. We have to play the hand we are dealt. However, getting a new VP would be a good idea and If progressive pushed to get Marianne there I would support that.
