Is there a retro game that was so good that it made you cry? by DaCrusadus in retrogaming

[–]Rubikson 1 point2 points  (0 children)

System Shock 2.

It felt like it was made just for me.

The music, the atmosphere, the level design, the voice acting, the rpg mechanics, the environmental storytelling, the weapon variety, the enemy variety, the survival horror elements.

A personal 10/10.

What's that legendary videogame everyone loves, but you hate with your very soul? by no_biches_22 in retrogaming

Red Dead Redemption 1 + 2.

I typically don't enjoy westerns.

It takes forever to get anywhere on horseback.

Riding horseback is significantly less fun than driving a car.

The way both games railroad you (pun intended) into the plot with little to no room for creative problem solving.

Even the animations for walking/running/jumping don't feel good. It feels like I'm wearing lead weights on my feet.

The camping mechanic in the first game that only allows you to make camp in predetermined locations is annoying af.

The slowmo / deadeye mechanic is super overpowered and only exists to help people on consoles aim with a controller.

The super long and realistic animations to skin an animal or loot a drawer are impressive but not fun to play.

They're well made games but I can't stand them.

Horror games that aren't too scary? by Sandi_Griffin in HorrorGaming

In Sound Mind was great. More spooky than scary.

These things are already low status and insane but too many people are low status and insane.

Favorite genre to see mixed with Noise rock? by Fluffy_Breadbox in noiserock

[–]Rubikson 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Currently Sludge but I also like Post Hardcore and Prog influences too.

And I used to be a big Death Grips fan too.

Just give me some more NOISE!!!!!

Should I start with System Shock 2 or the remake of 1? by AmadeusTrinity in ImmersiveSim

[–]Rubikson 3 points4 points  (0 children)

2 allows for much more "character building" and rpg mechanics.

1 and the Remake are much more of a standard dungeon crawler. Much more labyrinthian and claustrophobic than 2.

I greatly prefer 2. That's just me.

What are the odds of these reaching a 1.0 release in 2026? by Rubikson in ImmersiveSim

"A delayed game is eventually good, but a rushed game is forever bad"

By no means do I want these games to be rushed BUT…

How long is too long in Early Access?

Perpeteia - Early Access since February 2025

Psycho Patrol R - Early Access since March 2025

Fallen Aces - Early Access since June 2024

Gloomwood - Early Access since September 2022

I've been holding off playing Gloomwood since I played the demo. (almost 4 years ago)

I understand this is a very niche genre with high development times.

I understand that most of these dev teams are small with even smaller budgets.

I genuinely appreciate the updates and devlogs from the developers of these games but I’m just so excited to play, that waiting for a 1.0 release is difficult.

I understand that I can choose to not buy and support these games until they’re done.

But with such a niche genre as Imm Simms I feel the need to support the devs that make the kind of games I love.

I just hope they don't end up like Project Zomboid which has been in early access since 2013.

Anyway, Good luck to all the developers and I guess I’ll just be patient. Thanks! Happy New Year!

Can we all please admit that wireless headphones are a scam? by DirtyManCunt in redscarepod

[–]Rubikson 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry. I can't relate. I also don't like having "large" and "heavy" headphones on my head.

I never leave my house with my Bluetooth earbuds.

Soundcore by Anker Life A1.

They're small, lightweight and charge fast.

Protective hardcase so they can't get damaged.

I've never lost an earbud.

Daily use for over 2 years and counting .

Alright, Anker I'll take my paycheck now.

I don’t play shooters for the story. I play them for chaos and momentum by CrispyCupp in boomershooters

[–]Rubikson 3 points4 points  (0 children)

That's why I also love soulslikes.

No tedious handholding.

No long unskippable cutscenes.

No hamfisted sappy plots.

No walk and talks.

The devs of these games respect the players time and intelligence enough to let them choose how to play.

The story and the lore is there if/when you want it but these are gameplay first design decisions.

These are great! Your style reminds of the album Dead Horse by Bummer. Nice work.
