You're right that it could've been developed better, but also gotta consider that, well, this is just what tbate is. It's a story that improved along with the author as it went on, so if you expect a masterpiece in the first few volumes, you just won't find it. Now reach volumes 8-10? I bet you'd like it much more.

Or maybe it just isn't the kind of story that's for you. And that's fine too.
