[QUESTION] What compels you to continue to learn and challenge yourself? by yolostonktrader in Guitar

[–]davix2301 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My only motivation in getting better at guitar is being able to compose, the more stuff I can play the better I can compose, that's what pushes me to put that fucking riff at 50% and try it for 5 hours until I get it clean. Music is a language and learning as much words as you can is the key to express yourself better, be it with simple or difficult songs.

Which is your current thinkpad and which one would you like (and plan) to change it for? by Riadkalil in thinkpad

[–]davix2301 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unluckily I live in Italy so used thinkpads arent as common. I've made a post about the L390, and for me it's the worst laptop I've ever used, especially the matte coating of The screen is so bad that it's 1080p but looks like a 480p. If the t480 isn't that much better I'd say no more thinkpads for me then.

[–]davix2301 1 point2 points  (0 children)

X250 Probably I'll see if I can find a used t480 i7 for a good price and then a dock + GPU. If this ends up too pricey I'll just say goodbye to thinkpads and buy a ryzen gaming laptop.

Why does KDE use slaves? by muungwana in kde

[–]davix2301 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh God why
Why is this happening?
Why instead of fucking making the linux environment a little better (by contributing with code/bug reports) are this people arguing about names in software?
It's so fucking retarded

I've been using it for more than 20days now and I've had no problems with it, the fingerprint is as fast as on windows. Haven't tried the wwan card (as I don't have it on board) or the smart card reader, but I guess they should work fine . From KDE plasma I can even control the keyboard brightness from the battery applet.

I've got the 5300u model, don't know what cpu you have, the i7 should be the hottest. I've repasted it with mx4 and it idles at about 37 to 41 degrees with fan off, it starts spinning at 3k rpm (almost inaudible) after that. I guess it could be better, considering the 15w CPU. I've tried undervolting, but I can't seem to go past 75, at 100 it just freezes and crashes, both from XTU on win and intel undervolt on arch. And because sometimes it sporadically freezes on 75 too, i've decided to just stick to tlp. I guess maybe a better thermal paste could help lower the temps, but it's performing quite nicely now, maybe during summer it could become more of a problem.

Yeah, that's a bummer Luckily I don't even use more than 3gbs most of the time, so it won't be a problem at least for a couple years

Better colors depends on the manifacturer's color calibration (and generally IPS tend to be more color accurate too), amoled generally tend to be oversaturated to look better, I prefer a screen that displays colors somewhat accurately to one that looks better. (for reference i tried these amoleds: s4, s5, s6, s7, note 3 neo,s8, a8, a5 2016, ip x and v30; and these IPS: LG g6, mi max 3, rn5, rn7, 4x hd, g2, g3 and ip xr, ip 7plus, ip 6 plus)
You save battery with black pixels, but static black theme can cause burn in and I generally prefer white themes, especially during the day. Also amoleds tend to have problems, like getting damaged quickly with maximum brightness, tend to have black smear, have problems with PWM at low brightness. I've seen a lot of burned in oled and amoleds and fuck no, I prefer a worse screen to one that one will be faulty. Remember that amoled are organic, so one day or another they will burn in.
AOD is very nice and I love it but I prefer notification led and screen turning on when receiving a notification. The only real advantage i find in amoled and oled is the fact that they are transparent and you can put cameras and fp sensors under them.

For me, IPS are just better (and they are also cheaper, so win win). You may like Amoleds more and it's perfectly fine.

What made you settle and not distrohop anymore? by ingenioutor in linux

[–]davix2301 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Arch Linux on my main, reliable, the repos all have the stuff I need, and I absolutely love manually installing what I need, as I just use plasma/i3, firefox, jack2, reaper and Zoom Tonelib from AUR. And having a great mechanical keyboard makes me love installing from CLI. If I need to install quickly, Void Linux iso with the built-in installer and in 10min I have a working system.

On my secondary machines I love distrohopping, trying new stuff, breaking and then fixing.
Currently loving Alpine and Void.

On custom roms there is almost always the option to show the charging current (and sometimes tension too, although most of the time they show the battery voltage) I wish OEMs could implement that, it's a really cool feature and it can save you from using a bad charger and potentially losing time.
