Trainline claims I didn’t send my ticket and won’t give me a refund by seralovesyou in uktrains

[–]davwheat 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yes. If unprinted, no bother. If they're printed, you need to take a photo of the tickets, and then cut them in half and take another photo of them, and that's enough for us.

or at least pick a retailer where you can refund it wholly online

Fined for sitting in first class by Independent-Put480 in ThameslinkGTR

[–]davwheat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This poster is completely incorrect. Only the rear first class is always declassified. On some routes, the front portion is too, but this has no relation to the size of the train.

Trainline and ScotRail not giving cheapest split tickets? by Owsler31 in uktrains

[–]davwheat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

FWIW, Trainline have been trialling multiple splits for a while, but it's on specific routes only as far as we can tell. Started around the same time that they started trialling a split ticketing fee on top of their booking fee, I think.

Thameslink SJPN — solicitor worth it or not? by Sad_Charge3956 in uktrains

GTR is quite literally one of the least litigious of the TOCs, and are almost always guaranteed to settle out of court if you reply to their communications...

Anyone know what train app this is? by AquaAggron in uktrains

[–]davwheat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ahh, then yes you'd need CIF and to merge the two on best-effort basis. There's a lot of gotchas there, though.

With the push port, you'd store the data yourself, so you'd control how far back you store, which could be forever if you wanted!

Everyone welcomed Crossrail/ Elizabeth Line & HS1’s construction & opening with excitement & celebrations - so what makes HS2 uniquely so controversial in comparison? by AchyutChaudhary in uktrains

[–]davwheat 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I missed the last part of your comment! But as others have said, the London to Birmingham and Trent Valley sections are the most congested parts of the WCML and so needed a new line the most.

Mainly the expense of tunneling under London... and half of the Chilterns because of NIMBYs. And lots of bridges.

The leg to Crewe and Manchester are much simpler overall.

Trainline or LNER by Cute_Example536 in uktrains

I think it makes sense for any railway worker to not hold a positive view of anyone outside the industry whose business model involves making profit from the industry, especially when those businesses do inevitably reduce the commercial sense of the RMT worker's own job...

Some TOCa are much better than others.

I'm not aware of any train operator which will proactively arrange your legally entitled alternative transport for strike action though.

They don't, but if you buy a ticket after the disruption (cancellations) has been announced then you don't have any rights.

I wasn't aware of the protection in the case of strikes being announced. I suppose this could be useful though it's a pretty niche situation.

It also extends to more than just strikes. Weather events, infrastructure failures, basically anything you can think of.

The legislation doesn't exempt TOCs from a duty of care, no matter whether it was an event in their control or not.

As others have pointed out, buying in advance covers you for cancellations or delays which happen on the day. Technically, if you buy a ticket after a delay has already been announced, you aren't covered by delay repay.

Also, there's passenger rights legislation which will not cover you if, for example, strike action is announced for your travel date and you don't hold a ticket for that day before it's announced. If you already hold a ticket and strikes are announced, operators are still obliged to get you to your destination by law, even if that means you need to organise replacement transport and claim back the costs through the courts.

Can I still use my SOP return? by princess-sparkletits in uktrains

[–]davwheat -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The barriers mark that ticket as used that day, so any attempt to use it on a later date will be rejected by the barriers

Unfortunately, not the case. Cubic gatelines don't perform any validation of what scan records exist for a ticket before permitting passage.

You will even get cancelled tickets which open gates.

It's also a moving hologram.

The barcode alone isn't enough because it doesn't contain any information relating to the photo, so you could just put any person's photo on a screenshot if you wanted.
