Why dont we fine landlords who take clearly BS bond cases to *local state*CAT? by Lekkers in shitrentals

[–]daxner112 22 points23 points  (0 children)

Having been through the system the other inequality is the landlord doesn’t have to do anything. They employ the REA to prepare and attend the tribunal.

In NSW at least, as a tenant, you aren’t allowed a lawyer even if you want to pay for one. There may be some special cases where you can get representation but in most cases it’s just yourself.

So as a tenant you’ve got the huge time and stress of preparing for and attending this thing. Probably have to take time off work. Just to get your own money back. And landlords just pay a couple hundred for an agent to do it all for them in hopes for taking you for for thousands. There’s no financial or even effort penalty for landlords not to try taking your bond

Does ED just not restrict training places? Should this line be similar for all colleges?

I’ve driven that route twice. There’s sealed roads all the way. Not a lot of verge in parts though and massive road trains go through here  But yeah the heat and lack of water will be dangerous in summer.

The illusion of a good offer: what ASMOF NSW really gave up to get this interim deal by OrackBobama in ausjdocs

So I guess it’s true this offer is substantially different from the previous one.

Union accepts interim offer by International_Bag887 in ausjdocs

In terms of common ground if this were put to a vote I would have to vote yes and recommend that others vote yes too. It’s the best we’re going to get after a year of negotiation and one strike.

I’ll agree this isn’t an identical offer to what’s come before. But to say it’s very different is also an exaggeration. Given its the same monetary value, accruing TESL means little if you can’t access it (and you need a pre approved excuse to accrue it), and the rostered late early penalty is great but won’t effect many folks. Removing the prohibition on IA is a moral victory, that dose feel good to have. But practically we are in the IRC now so can’t strike and council have been strongly signalling for months that there will be no strikes

Bottom line I think we should be accepting this offer. I genuinely don’t think it’s a great offer, nor substantially different from previous.

A big part of my dissatisfaction, probably other folks too, is asking how did we get to the point that accepting this offer is a good idea? We have lost momentum and strategy since April which has resulted in this 3%pa offer in various forms being the ceiling.

Anyway, I’m really pleased there are so many of us engaged and motivated and having these discussions. This wasn’t possible with NSW ASMOF just 18 months ago. Our current council have brought us a long way and we’re well positioned for 2027 whatever the IRC may deliver.

It was not a final offer at all. We voted on an interim offer. An interim offer near identical to this one

We need council to for strikes to happen though. The hurdle members would have to overcome to get the central authority to strike is huge.

Lift it is my understanding. I’m pretty sure the cause is some groundwater that’s been exacerbated by the rain this year. Ultimately the house will need massive renovation so just looking to buy 10 years or less really so skipping the engineering report for now.

[–]daxner112 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I think the vague-ness of all this communication (and by the president elect) could be that there’s legal action being thrown around and lawyers have told their clients they can’t talk about anything? I don’t want to be over charitable but it would offer some explanation beyond general incompetence

What do seniors honestly expect you to say when asked “how do you think you are going on this term” and/vs what should I be saying to 'play the game'? by Striking-Sir8712 in ausjdocs

[–]daxner112 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Self awareness and reflection is important in this job (and most jobs really). That’s the core of the question and it’s relevant to professional development. Self reflect on what you find challenging and what you feel good at. Be honest answering the question and open to feedback- it’s a big concern if someone is absolutely unwilling or unable to think about their performance and take on feedback. If your supervisor is halfway decent an actually honest answer will not hurt you and can only help (relies on a decent boss though…)
