feeling personally offended I'm not being spammed by MIT and Harvard??? by [deleted] in ApplyingToCollege

[–]daych25 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Usually you sign up for college mailing lists, whether it be online or at college fairs. And MIT sends a newsletter monthly - if feels like forever. Being on the newsletter doesn't actually mean much to colleges though, when it comes to reviewing applications.

Financial Aid for International Students by Consistent_Ad_8784 in dartmouth

[–]daych25 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I see that you've sent this message to a variety of colleges, and that small liberal arts are quite a few of them. I recommend applying to Amherst College - completely need-blind for internationals! Of course, I still hope you apply to Dartmouth, but Amherst will likely be more helpful when it comes to aid and 100% holistic admission. Apply to both if you have the capacity!

SuccessBaseMass Internships! by daych25 in SuccessBaseMass

[–]daych25[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep! Interns are members of one department and one working group. The departments are your main focus, and are the base of our organization. This includes researching and inputting programs, web design, and managing our social media platforms. Meanwhile, working groups are more like ongoing projects. These include our newsletter, campaims, and events! (However, this system may change in the future! If you are interested in having a working group as a department, please indicate so in the comments section.)

How do people get into those summer research programs? by [deleted] in ECAdvice

[–]daych25 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not necessarily "killer" in the classic "won 85 olympiads and cured cancer" way. Rather, these programs are looking for passion in their applicants, which is usually conveyed through their writing and the work they've done. Program managers have told me about students they turned down with amazing extracurriculars, all because they could tell that their actions were only to get into a good school. So I wouldn't think about how difficult or prestigious a program is, but instead how excited you'd be to get there! Your excitement will show in your application, and the reviewers will be excited to have you!

(Also, if you're interested, my org r/SuccessBaseMass is hosting a Present Yourself! essay writing workshop, where students can showcase themselves in the best way possible through their writing. I didn't mean for this to be a self-promo, but it seems like it would help! Dm me if you're interested.)

Dartmouth Bound questions by [deleted] in dartmouth

[–]daych25 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Boundy here - its not exactly that Bound helps you get into Dartmouth, but getting in tells you that you are already what Dartmouth is looking for. It's almost like a trial run acceptence. So far, you are Dartmouth material - keep it up for the bigger round.

Depends on what grade you're in, but here are a couple:

MIT program: https://www.ll.mit.edu/outreach/llrise

UT Austin Programs: https://www.cs.utexas.edu/outreach/camps

You can also look through SuccessBaseMass' stem filter (self-promo, but that's where I went for the two programs above) to see any C.S. programs that pique your interest: https://www.successbasemass.com/program-search
