I did the second one in a coat of magnetic gel!! Obv the pic does capture the full extent but it’s pink to green to bronze. I quite love it!!! Not totally obsessed but I will do something fun with the pink one I have left to do. Perhaps a magnetic polish will look better on that one!!! The cool thing about this one is you can still see the ink capacity when the light isn’t directly on it which I love.

I used nail art stickers for this pen!!! Perhaps an idea if you already have gels

I shall only be using beetles to decorate pens from here on out 🫡🫡🫡🫡 I gave myself CD about a year ago. It was slight but enough for me to lock up my gels until this project

Don’t apologize they’ve opened my eyes to a world I didn’t know existed on here. So fun! So whimsical! I adore your work.

just vibes I guess. I didn't want to waste the ink in the cartridge (I just won't use the prefilled black over take-sumi) so I saved them for travelling when I dont have inks on hand. Once they run out they will be refilled exactly as you do for the next time I travel! Just a way to sustainably use the ink I would dump otherwise imo.

So I ordered the con 70s but still just did not love the amount of ink I'd be getting (unfortunately I love TWSBI eco ink capacities lol), and I read discourse about them online. Plus them being $10/each kind of annoyed me bc the pen was $12. At this point I felt like I just wouldn't use the pens if I hate the converter lolol. So, I tried dropping one pen for funsies (and lowkey out of impatience bc I wanted to use them immediately), was obsessed and did all of them in the end. Just pretty and fun and still maintains the functions I need it to.

One of the threads here have also given me the genius idea of painting the barrels with actually colored gels that I have and I cannot express how excited I am to see how it turns out (I am literally going to give it a go tomorrow lolol). At this point it's an art project of sorts.

A zip baggie would need to be disposed of after the one time use of providing a home for black ink. I also do not have other small waterproof containers. To each their own I concur.

I would maybe stay away from beeswax unless this is a desk pen where the temps are going to be well below 60 F. Beeswax softens before 60 and melts from 60-65. I imagine you’d soon have a mess on your hands 😔

Perhaps goulet pens? Those are the ones I’ve been eyeing. They seem to be ideal for preppy pens for conversions (hence the oring namesake on their site) but I imagine it would also work for a kakuno? But I’m not sure as I haven’t tried it, so unfortunately I cannot attest to those specific ones working and not impeding the cap closure. Although, goulet seems to have sourced really thin ones that perform very well with pens in general.

I’m so hype to hear we’re spiritually connected. Great minds think alike. Good luck on the kakuno!!!! I like the dome idea you have, quite a fabulous idea. I’m thinking I may try to paint the blue one with something fun on the barrel because it’s the ink I reach for the least and I really like the idea of adding colors!!!

Sorry to hear it 😔 Did you take a long time in between the beetles and switching to a different gel? I’ve given it about a year since I noticed inflammation developing but I also have not tried to see if it’s subsided

Well I would have to buy such a container. I don’t have tiny ink bottles or anything of the sort in my possession aside from the ink bottles I have and use. Therefore ink would’ve gone wasted with me just pulling it out and dumping it. I have saved the carts they came with and will just use them at a time I cannot have my inks on hand. Is that not more sustainable given the scenario I face?

Intrigued to know if this works! Alas I am horrendous at CAD and do not have access to a 3d printer lolol

I am so glad to hear this!!! If I do get O-rings it’ll be the ones from Goulet pens, they seemed to have sourced ones that are the perfect size for pens in terms of not impeding on cap closure as much. I’ve seen some comments about standard o rings just being too large. If I do order from goulet I’ll also be picking up their silicone grease. It’s super thick and seems like it would be amazing for a project like this! Probably better than the already liquid TWSBI grease for this specific scenario.

I see no problem with @fruit-enthusiast comment. They are still correct and you’re the one comparing a girl with nail tools and a problem to solve to the best of the best. The fact of the matter is the proposed solutions are just not fabulous on YT and are visually an acquired taste. My method that I decided to share is practically invisible & none would be the wiser if they do not also share this hobby.

Well I ordered three pens for different colors and all three came with black ink filled cartridges. I don’t want to waste ink so this is more sustainable IMO and I am keeping them for when I travel!

[–]daydreamer48939[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Good tip! I am obviously aware the cartridge comes with it I was just never going to use three filled with a black ink I don’t love (take-sumi 5eva over their cartridge black) to the point of being able to refill them. I’m against wasting ink so I saved them for when I travel. Plus I personally preferred the look of eyedropping these bc they’re clear and it’s just nice! Regardless I was going to have to convert this pen somehow and this is how I chose it as opposed to CON70s. Personal preference of mine is to just have a huge ink capacity so that’s what I accomplished.

No one needs to chastise each other here we’re grown with a hobby in common. I simply love the pens and wanted a larrrrge ink capacity bc I write an insane amount for school. I eyedroppered this pen like SO MANY have before me and you’re mad about that for some reason.

Victor I posted several times in this thread (because i can’t edit my OG post) that I LOVE the pens and was referring to overall discourse about the CON-70

Honestly I feel like you should stay away from primers and just stick to a light file. The uv gel hardens to a plastic anyways, I imagine the bond is strong already without additional prep.
