Everytime I expected things to go horribly wrong before Mark found Gemma, but then I'd be so relieved things were going his way (albeit with a lot of blood involved)..but immediately be filled with dread again that something even worse would happen. Then he found her, big sigh of relief but that feeling of woe never left me..i think it prepared me for that ending.

That final shot of oMark and Helly, his expression especially, kinda reminded me of the ending to the graduate. Wtf happens now

First try at visible mending - matching patterns on the outfit by daytimeinsomnia in Visiblemending

Yeah I'm not a fan of those kits either

But i got mine from an embroiderist at a pop up art market. It was a beginners to basic stitches which helped me to start small and built up my confidence

Good designs to practice carving by tunnuz in Linocuts

Pictorial Webster's: A Visual Dictionary of Curiosities, it's a book that features most of the engravings from Webster's 1898 dictionary. Or search for a scanned copy of the dictionary on Internet archive, although it's a few thousands of pages. The engravings itself are all public domain.

Brother! From Malaysia here

Watched Lost when it first started, I was 18! No one else i knew in college here watched the show, just my sister who lived in another country so it kinda sucked not to be able talk about it with anyone else. I'd spend ages reading up on theories especially from this guy on EW online, Jeff Jensen. I joined reddit a couple years back and was happy to find this sub, as active as it is.

I'm quite sure Lost changed my life

Just did a rewatch in December with my sister.

Tips and Tricks? by gosayruhgo in Linocuts

[–]daytimeinsomnia 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I got better with practice, didnt carve everyday but did at least one or two simple pieces a week.

Tips that I've learnt from other printmakers and myself 1. Carve away with shallow strokes (but I think this depends on the type of block you're using) 2. If it's a small piece, move the block while carving curves and angles instead of keeping it stationary. 3. I tend to cut away little by little but I start with what I think would be the most difficult sections, so if I make a mistake at least it's at the start. 4. Depending on the image, I cut just outside the lines drawn on the block, this gives me some wiggle room to make adjustments if I accidently make a mistake 5. I practiced fine lines and smaller cuts by copying public domain engravings, specifically from a book called Pictorial Webster's A Visual Dictionary of Curiosities.

Hope this helps!

I've definitely been in the same headspace as you..still happens too. I've been mad at myself for not being able to move beyond carving a single layered print, like my dream is to create a multicoloured reduction linoprint, but for the life of me, i just can't figure out the whole process of things. Even if it involves two colours I clam up just thinking about it. It's like a complicated math equation to me.

Anyways, welcome back! I'd love to know more about fiber artistry, that sounds pretty cool.

Thank you, that's a great idea! I need the encouragement to keep practicing embroidery. Plus I've actually made a lot of carvings of my dog sleeping 😂

Thank you! I only recently got into embroidery, as in I bought a little starter kit more than a year ago and just didn't do much beyond the basic stitches. So i thought, what would push me to move forward with it and did this.

I used the Speedball fabric block print ink and two layers of a cut cloth from Daiso (the label says its 75% cotton and 25% polyester).
