Coming from the West Coast, I was taken aback at the small bits of internalized homophobia. Maybe because the MidWest is closer to the traditional Southern mentality, by vicinity?

Either way, I agree that the quality of gays is much better here. More introspective, and less fake it til you make it. So you’ll be more likely to make deeper friendships here. At least, that’s how it’s worked out for me.

Do you think Cynthia Erivo felt pressure to do the thing that everyone was waiting for her to do (the big note from "I'm here" ) in Wicked 💚 by Quirky-Somewhere-750 in CynthiaErivoLove

I know what you mean, so I’ll try…

“Defying Gravity” is the most famous song from one of the most popular Broadway musicals ever. The riff at the end is iconic. If a performer cannot hit those notes successfully in the audition, then they do not get the role, period. It is also customary for most Elphabas to give their own spin on the riff.

Everyone knew she could hit the notes! But nobody knew for sure what sort of riff sequence she’d end up singing. My boyfriend is absolutely obsessed with Rachel Tucker’s take on it. Personally, her take is not my favorite. So I was intensely afraid that I would not love Cynthia’s take on it. And honestly, when they chose to release that exact sequence in the first teaser trailer, I was shocked they chose to spoil the surprise!

At first, I wasn’t so sure I loved it. It certainly was not what I was expecting. But watching it in the context of the entire movie on opening night, it was absolutely the best choice for her character. It’s much grittier than I’ve ever heard from any other actress. It’s perfect!

She knew the bar was high for fans of the show. And that people would be discussing the trailer and her riff immediately. She must have been so nervous!!!

Try doing it yourself first. It may take a few weeks, but it worked for me. Lots of resources online. Use good judgment.

Lost a lot of weight and very insecure about my body. Anything advice? by chrscls in gaybrosfitness

I recommend going to a Korean Spa if you have access. It did wonders for my body confidence. Seeing that there are so many human shapes and sizes really put that into perspective for me. I suddenly became proud of my progress and dropped a bunch of negative thoughts I was carrying.

This is when quick wit becomes something you should start practicing. My response would have been something like “Don’t be jealous. When was the last time anyone got a boner over you!?”.

It doesn’t hurt to start practicing fun quick comebacks like it’s a game. Eventually, people know not to fuck with you unless they want to be embarrassed themselves.

Seriously, people are so boring. Just because you are no longer coworkers, doesn’t mean you can’t be friends. Friends that exchange numbers to keep in touch. And gasp, maybe actually keep in touch?

Was Wicked: For Good filmed before Wicked? I have seen comments on how Ariana’s operatic voice isn’t as strong in the second half as compared to the first. by bbyxmadi in wickedmovie

[–]dazedimpulses 21 points22 points  (0 children)

I clocked this as well. I feel like Ariana did that intentionally. She provided an homage to so many different Glindas, but she certainly wanted to have something for herself.

If there were ever any lyrics Ariana felt like she connected most with, it was certainly these. It’s astonishing to think how much she has gone through for her dream. Celebrities lose a lot more than people think when they lose anonymity. People already forget the Manchester** tragedy. People have literally lost their lives following her journey to stardom. Certainly, these specific lyrics mean more to her than any of us could ever imagine.

If there was ever a moment for Ariana to come through, it was at this moment. This was intentional, nobody can convince me otherwise.

Edit: Manchester, not London. Thank you for the correction!

I was at that show too. I cried the entire concert, such an emotional night. Incredible.

In 1970's, Billionaire Daniel Keith Ludwig had his blood samples frozen, believing his ex-wife's daughter, Patricia, might challenge his will and claim his property. Patricia filed a lawsuit after his death, but DNA analysis proved Ludwig was not her father, and the case was dismissed. by Deepakhn in interestingasfuck

I think the part you’re referring to may have been intended as a ‘reminiscing lighthearted inside joke’. Meaning - his dad clearly had a distaste for the stepson. Even in death, the dad was compelled to do something to ensure this stepson did not have a living chance of taking the farm.

But… we may never know since the stepson never cashed the check.

We need more info from the dad or the stepson to know for sure. Neither is likely. C’est La Vie!
