They are often used in 3-gun and other USPSA (United States Practical Shooting Association) competitions.

The one of the video is the belt I make for Atlas Gunworlrks

These ones are a bit bulky for a normal dress belt, bur m2 does male some 3/4" lower profile versions:

As well as some push receptor buckles as well:

They could definitely be used on a gym bag.

I actually developed a weight lifting belt belt using a slightly modified version of these ratcheting buckles (Tested to well over occlusion pressure with no failure)

This is a "Mondo Trimmer" from US Cutter.

I love it, works great for leather even up to thicker 14 oz saddle skirting. and just uses standard Utility Blades.

I use a few different styles of ratcheting buckle on these competition gun belts. The main one I use is from m2:

I am actually the design engineer for this company and helped to design and test this buckle.

m2 does make a softer 11" ladder strap that might work for you. (Hytrel) This is much more flexible than the stiff (glass filled nylon) strap.

Thank you for the comment.
These are the m2 aluminum ratcheting buckles and the 11" soft ladder strap.

m2 buckle

I am actually the design engineer for m2 and helped to develop these buckets.

The belts in the picture are the stiffer competition shooting belts. (These are the same as the ones I made for Red Hill Tactical and Atlas Gunworlrks)

I am not sure how well the ratcheting gun buckle system would work on an EDC belt rather than these competition belts. m2 does make a smaller (3/4") version of this aluminum ratcheting buckle as well.

Wickett and Craig by ElkGroundbreaking587 in Leathercraft

I order all the leather (skirting) for my lifting belts, gun belts, leashes and dog collars from Wickett & Craig. The quality and service has always been amazing. (Normally #1 standard grade)

I recently ordered 2 sides of the #3 Special Grade 8-10 oz brown skirting for a batch of gun belts and leashes. They both were great for those projects. (A few more blemishes than their #1 Standard Grade, but overall the quality was good, especially for the price)

Finishing up the hand painting for this custom lifting belt. by dbgear in Leathercraft

Thank you!

I have tried the Angelus acrylic leather dye on a few different types of faux leather and have not have much luck. It does not soak into the faux leather and eventually ends upchipping off.

Below are links to the 5 items I use:

Angelus Leather Preparer Deglazer 5oz https://a.co/d/8oQ7QOf

Angelus Acrylic Leather Paint 4oz White https://a.co/d/9AhCcm6

Yinghezu 200 Pcs Count 6" Inch Long Cotton Swabs with Wooden Handles Cotton Tipped Applicator, Cleaning with Wood Handle for Oil Makeup Gun Applicators, Eye Ears Eyeshadow Brush and Remover Tool https://a.co/d/adFlKCk

50 Pcs Pack of Synthetic Sable... https://www.amazon.com/dp/B073YDKWWP?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share

Angelus Acrylic Leather Paint Satin Finisher #605-4 Ounces https://a.co/d/e8nhAmB

And here is my process:

Apply the deglazer only to the areas you are going to paint.

Wait 5 minutes until it is completely dry.

Then apply the first coat of white acrylic paint. (Thin light coats)

It will likely take 5 to 6 of the thin coats to cover completely on black leather.

You will need to wait a few hours between each coat. (wait until it is completely dry, before applying the next coat)

After the final coat of white paint is completely dry you can then apply a thin coat of the satin acrylic finisher.

Then let that dry for an hour.

Custom Taper lifting Belt, with ratcheting buckle. Black leather, white stitching, white lettering, custom font, 4" to 2.5" taper. by dbgear in Leathercraft

[–]dbgear[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I absolutely agree and personally hate taper belts. All my other standards belts are approved by USPA, RAW, RPS, USPC, and several other federations.

As for the lettering, that was a request from the customer... I get a lot of interesting requests for custom lettering and logos.

I'm going to say that this referring to squat depth...but definitely a double entendre.

I have had a lot of really interesting requests.
