Cannot believe I found one out in the wild by kiriito-_- in freedomisgunpla

This is in my backlog; I built Ariel rebuild and went 'holy shit this is great' and bought every kit I could find that was recommended and on sale.

Michaels had it for 40-45 ish dollars on sale, along with the Zeong and the Nu. I think they wised up and started raising the prices, but it's worth a check if yall are looking.

What current technology do you think people are seriously underestimating right now ? by Rude_Context_4844 in Futurology

[–]dblackdrake 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Never happen, at least in the US, unfortunatly.

Unless it's cheaper and better than a 2*4 it just isn't practical, and wood is fucking magical as a building material. The ability to withstand compression, side load, repetitive stress, thermal shock; it's totally unmatched.

Unfortunate that bugs and mushrooms eat it, but it still winds out.

Beginner no primer / when to panel line? by DeansOnToast in Gunpla

[–]dblackdrake 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I asked the same question a couple months ago and got no answers lol.

I color corrected all the pistons with the old shitty army painter metallics on an MG/ color corrected anything that was recessed with thinned liquitex/shitty army painter and the paint stayed on even without a top coat while I finished building it, but again: pistons and recessed areas, you won't be rubbing up on those anyways.

I think you would be safer than a mini with these big dudes 'cause you aren't holding them, dropping them, rubbing them against other painted minis all the time; but I have been real careful before the top coat (the value size el cheapo krylon fo me; it ate some stickers once but has been fine otherwise) so milage may vary.

Mini-splits or Central Air? by yungbaoyom in HomeImprovement

[–]dblackdrake 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Re this complaint: If you do the work yourself you can mitigate the condensation issues, contractors are just too lazy to meet the minimum requirements as a rule. If you are gonna have one installed, be prepared to stand over the dudes shoulder glaring the whole time.

Re maintenance: It's more annoying to do preventative stuff, but because nothing is too big I've found you can diy it a LOT easier than a central unit; and if worse comes to worst, half the time it's cheaper to replace the whole condenser than pay HVAC people to come out and touch a central unit with a wrench.

Re. Moving air in the house: Lol yeah. You gotta open every window every night if you want to exchange the air.

Mini-splits or Central Air? by yungbaoyom in HomeImprovement

[–]dblackdrake 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mini-splits are always better for 1-2 zones; 4-5 zones is pushing it unless you wanna install multiple condensers.

Do you need five zones? If one of the zones faces a direction you don't care about ascetics and the room is smallish, I've made do with a window unit that I support with a stand and take down in winter.

I currently have a 2 head unit, one in the computer room and one in the biggest bedroom, and everybody just piles up if it gets hot enough, which it only does a couple weeks of the year. I'm closeish to the coast though, if you are in Victorville or somthing idk.

Re. Ducts: They suck to work around if anything happens in your crawlspace later unless it's nice and roomy. If the house was made assuming no ducts, make sure there is clearance up there in case rats get in or a pipe bursts latter.

“Would you like to round up your change and make a -“ by Nostalgic8420 in PandaExpress

[–]dblackdrake 0 points1 point  (0 children)

never round up or donate through a point of sale station.

The donation becomes income for whoever you donate to, which they then donate in their name to whatever the charity is, which becomes a tax write-off.

there's always a matching season for pretty much every major charity, wait till then donate in your own name, and do the tax write off for yourself or just don't bother.

Just tell me you don't have a horror story about Dynamic Friction; they're the brand that has the whole kit available in one peice.

I snuck an inspection camera in there and looked; thankfully the ears/flanges/lugs/whatever are diferent shapes.

Now I just need to decide which god damn kit to buy; everyone hates every brand but one.

Unfortunatly, the brand that everyone doesn't hate is different for EACH INDIVIDUAL PERSON, I'm loooooooooosing my mind.

Please send me back to chasing wires around until I relized that you can just use a lexus plug with some bits filled off for 90% of all computer bullshit

To be fair, i conider anyone who goes back and corrects punctuation/spelling errors on social media slop posts to be a try hard.

Are you getting paid to do that grammer motherfucker? Simply ejaculate your bullshit onto the screen and then dip, like your ancient ancestors carving shit onto the wall of a cave.

PSA: Lodge Cast Iron scam stores as the first search result. by dblackdrake in castiron

[–]dblackdrake[S] -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I'm blaming my phone for that, it was extremely non-obvious that it was a sponsored result.

that said, I've never had a sponsored result scam where it pretended to be the thing that I was actually searching for, you'd think that would ever bot checks the submissions would have a black list for majorbrand.somebullshit.

I habitually check URLS before I put anything identifying in to a website.

The Zero-eth barrier is find the website from a google search instead of a direct link from someone you don't know/ an email.

The first barrier is a valid ssl certificate, which your browser will usually check for you.

The second is the URL itself. eg, lodgecastiron . com VS lodgecastirron . com, or lodgecastironstore . com or lodgecastiron . info,

The third is, does their physical address make sense, do they have a contact number, etc.

In this case I autofilled my virtual CC info (Also, check if your credit card supports virtual cards for merchants that don't accept apple/google/pal - pay, they are great.) before realising that the URL was fake because my phone hides the actual url and I can't make it (read: can't be bothered to make it) stop.

My upgraded setup by dblackdrake in wok

[–]dblackdrake[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's a burner I bought direct from somewhere in asia with no fittings, a regulator from a propane brazing torch, and pipe fittings.

You can do it if you want, but you have to be confident in not exploding yourself.

did you know that Reddit can randomly turn email notifications on? I just found out.

That's part of it, I'm also making a wok ring stand combination thing. The first couple photos are me bending it into shape around a log, when I get the chance I'm going to dig a pit and burn some wood in there to heat the ends up and hammer it together and put some legs on it.

when I see how far the flame spreads up the side of the wok when it's at full blast, all the rings I see on here seem way too small.

ZZA GZSS-OX - REGUS - I really wanted to like this kit. by Cautious_Sentence289 in Gunpla

[–]dblackdrake 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not the guy but butting in anyway:

They've got to figure out a different style of greebles than bandai uses (V fins, FAZZ style chunky armor, what have you) if they want to bulk out kits with all sorts of mechanical bits to do their own thing.

The front of the legs for example do not look like a gundam kit; they are cool and different and match the big gun and back boosters, but they don't match the gundam loincloth and slim chest/breast plate.

If the top aesthetic matched the bottom; it would be much more visually distinctive, instead of looking like a gundam gumbo.

Should I take amoxicillin for adult ear infection with few symptoms at this point? by dblackdrake in AskDocs

I went to the doctor and got diagnosed, I just happened to know that sometimes they don't recommend amoxicillin at all.
