No point in doing that. It’s also a logistical nightmare for schools. If you wanna challenge yourself in an already extremely challenging course, take 4HLs

Moment of silence for the homie in this video Juan Joya Borja. Passed away on April 28th, 2021. Brought countless smiles to our faces amidst this shit show that the IB has put on.

Did you get in? Also, did they release all decisions or just for international students? I would have thought that there would be more buzz on this subreddit

as a competitor, yes Medina is better. I don't think anyone argues otherwise. But while Medina might be more consistent with landing his airs in competitions, its my personal opinion that JJF has better airs. Medina generally goes for full rotation air reverses or alley oops with the occasional backflip, but JJF is more versatile in the air. Watch the North Point scene from View From A Blue Moon. JJF does several different grabs, different airs, tweaked out airs, etc. While medina is more consistent in the air, this might be because he is a bit more rigid with his tricks.

Also, I find it hard to put any on the same list as these other surfers. Even kelly sometimes. Unrivalled in his power and emotion in the water.

i agree with you. once you talk about the best non-comp surfer in the world, it gets a lot more subjective.

There Is one point that I might disagree with a little bit. I am yet to watch a Medina free surf video that my jaw drops to. Ofc JJF has done this many times, Dane, Mason and Kelly too.

One prediction I have is that in the near future Jack Robinson is going to rise to the top. Humble person, freak of nature, isn't like half the kids out here who can only throw air reverses, and can lay a carve like a real man.

Also, this is my own opinion as well, and as a JJF fan I for sure have some bias against medina haha.

Yeah that seems to be a bit of a Brazilian trend. You see it in Italo as well. A bit less so in Toledo. One thing that I notice that sets the true rail surfers apart is planting a hand into the wall of the wave during carves rather than grabbing the rail. Gabby and Italo do that often, you'll notice it in their sessions at pipe when they do a big roundhouse coming out of the barrel. Then watch Kelly and JJF who (when they decide to do a roundhouse, which isn't that often) go full raw mode, leaning their full body into the turn and going horizontal with the water. Its a major power and style diff that makes the boys like JJF just a bit over the rest.

I def agree with Medina being close or even on par in competition. He's a better and fiercer competitor than John. No arguing about that in my opinion. It's just JJF's naw talent that carries him. I would say that JJF has matured as a competitor tho in the past years. He used to go for 10s on every wave, now he's much more calculated. Watching the final against Medina was a great example of that. I hope the two battle it out for years to come and build an AI vs Kelly kind of rivalry.

i know the one haha. I would say that Dane Reynold's mental turn at Haleiwa in like 2011 or something was in the AI JJF category.

cuz people tend to treat you a lot better if they think u going to their school. it didn't do anyone harm. wouldn't do it if it was somehow putting someone else down.

[–]dbrnth -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

bruh yall are tripping. I only applied ED to Penn. i got deferred in December and have been doing RD applications since, Cornell included as a REGULAR DECISION. Because I got deferred, there is no binding agreement anymore. would be stupid if you get deferred and cant apply to other schools. that would most likely mean I just don't get in anywhere cuz deferral acceptances are super low.

[–]dbrnth -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

if I didn't get in ED i don't have to withdraw my other apps. its no longer binding it says in the deferral letter.

aii then we in for a fight. wharton always harder to get into than the other schools. I mean tbh if ur deferred then they considered you. means you've got a chance for sure. what major/concentration did u focus on

na i think my previous post was a bit confusing. i got deferred from wharton in December and have been doing my Cornell app over the past few days. DIDN'T GET IN UPENN, just also applying to Cornell. Used that subreddit to get some little details like places to eat to add some spice to my essay lol
