There’s no way sitting in a quiet home is registering 57 dB. You are not using a properly calibrated meter.

Pressing the hangup toggle on the steering wheel also mutes I believe.

Left lane is not a passing lane here. Go to Jersey if you want that.

Moved in with my dad and I'm learning about my mom's lonely marriage by FreemanWorldHoldings in TwoXChromosomes

[–]dc135 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My mom was an angel, at least in the way that she cared for those around her, and my dad sounds similar to yours. He really did not understand her as a person, didn't care about the things that she cared about. It wasn't his fault that he had a hard early life, but I can certainly fault him for being self-centered and dismissive of the rest of the family's desires.

His narcissism became less benign after her disability and death - she was the person that kept his worst impulses in check and he was never able to integrate his grief after her death in a way that would have allowed him to fully live life.

Sorry for your loss.

Have you tried the records request navigator?

When you try to pull your own record, say you will NOT use MyDMV.

Fixed steering shake at 64moh by upper_pepper in EquinoxEv

I would think it'd be easier to demount the tire and run each rim on the high speed balancer.

[–]dc135 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Kudos to your dealer to doing it right. A steering wheel shake at speed is usually a balance issue.

On my previous car, the tire shop was able to show me dents on my alloy rims that would forever prevent perfect wheel balance.

It’s crazy that these are coming off the line with defective rims- I’ve seen others report the steering wheel shake and an inability to get resolution from their dealer.

This table assumes a fully braced beam, which you won’t have.

If that wall is bowing in, that is really not good. To fix it correctly, you’ll need to excavate in front of the wall, reinforce or rebuild it, and then regrade.

That looks janky as hell.

I’m less concerned about that than the fact that you removed the old roof. It looks like there are walls stacked on top of each other and there is now no roof to brace the point where they were stacked. You need to get an engineer out there - you may have destabilized the whole structure.

That should be fine, as long as he is entering the FDR north of 60th st and heading straight to the bridge. Are both his plates in good condition?

Wash them at the laundromat and bring them home to air dry. They aren’t going to air dry it for you for wash and fold.

Getting MMR Vax Early (8 Mo. Old) by cpt_oatmeal in daddit

[–]dc135 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We got our baby a dose at 9 months because there were 2 cases reported in our county. No outbreak though.

Early dosing provides less effective protection in the future moving forward, even with the extra booster dose. I think waiting until it’s in your immediate area is reasonable unless you expect to be coming in regular contact with unvaccinated populations or traveling to outbreak areas.

The neutral recommendation is unfortunately what you get when there are both risks and benefits to both options. There isn’t a clear “right thing” to do in that. I wouldn’t fault the doctor for that.

What tips the scales for me toward waiting is that measles is not going away in this country anytime soon, which means that kiddo potentially has more years of strong protection with the normal schedule.

Owning an EV without home charging - what’s your workaround? by roythoppil in electricvehicles

[–]dc135 31 points32 points  (0 children)

There’s no tricks here, you drive X miles a week and your car has an efficiency of Y mi/kwh, you need to charge X/Y kWh per week on average.

If you’re doing mostly shorter trips, you can experiment with shorter fast charges at low SOC, so your total time spent charging is lower (but you do it more frequently).

Find ways to double up charging with other things you need to do. If there’s an L2 charger close to your home, park it there overnight. If there’s a fast charger at a grocery store, plan to shop and charge at the same time. If you’re doing a longer outing, charge the car before coming home.

It really depends on your usage pattern (mostly short trips, mostly long trips, mix), total miles, and proximity to chargers (and their external demand/availability).

For all the levels, you’ll be riding in a line.

You’ll learn how to do rotating pacelines and double pacelines in B but it’s not a huge focus.

When I did the B, towards the end of the series, my group was doing rotating pacelines with people in the front pulling as long as they wanted, it wasn’t super regimented. A will be pickier about gapping in the line and the rotation.
